What a great sincere drinking song. I used to sit in bars and drink. Finally figured out I liked the life too much and had to give it up. George Jones another good one too.
I had the Absolute Priviledge of playing Bass guitar For Joe 10 or more years ago and this was my favorite song he did even though he did a bunch of great songs. I love Joe my brother and keep on carrying on! your coonass buddy Boyett
Wow - I can't believe this only made it to #18!! This is as classic as country music gets when it comes to hurting so bad you can barely function. Pass the SoCo my way too.
Reminds me of Webster Parish, bars around Cullen or out on Hwy 80. Good to hear you Joe. I am a long way from home, one of the best boozing songs ever. This is straight up Beer Joint Music.
Cheers to DaveWollenberg: Joe kept all of the r's in this song. Pfft on the so-called "New Country." It's too AmericanIdolized. I stay with the classic traditional Country Music.
So smooth. I think most of us have been at that very place at one time or another. Joe puts so much soul in this song it gives me chill bumps. A great song and lot's of great memories. Thanks for giving us these great country classics!
Hit #18 in Billboard, 8-1-81. This was real singin'. Joe didn't drop his r's even once. Why can't today's singers keep their r's when THEY sing? God bless!
