Great story told by great story tellers. I was impressed by all and really surprised & impressed with Tommy Lee Jones. I watched him closely on the film and he was a damn good college football player.
@michaelHda True dat. Trudeau went to Yale, and Walden is modeled on Yale. Interestingly, Garry Trudeau and William Buckley both went to Yale. What Bill though of this game, I don't know
It's such a shame when you look at both teams cheerleaders unlike other colleges' if I go to Harvard one day I have a feeling there won't be really pleasing sights on campus :(
@FanOfPopCulture but Harvard has had 5 U.S. Presidents compared to Yale's 3. Your guys are catching up though, before the Bushes came along you were outnumbered 5 to 1. lol
Wasn't former President George W Bush the head cheerleader at Yale in 1968? No, seriously, no Bush jokes...I know he was the Yale head cheerleader, and I know he graduated in 1968.
I sat near at the 50 yard line 30 rows up with my family, Ted Kennedy sat 2 rows up and 15 seats to our left smoking cigars all day. Coach Jim Feula, my dads college roomate GWU was Harvards line coach that day and and Tommie Lee Jones started at guard for Harvard. Calvin Hill played that day as well and Kurt Schmoke the future mayor of Baltimore for the Eli's. People forget but Harvard was down 21-7 at halftime I think, and at the opening of the 2nd half it was 29 -7.
@anotherdropofwater Watch the documentary, dude. When Harvard ties it, you'd think they won the game. That's what's so funny about the title/headline.
Oops, disregard my last comment. I watched again, I may have misheard the announcer. When I first watched it, it sounded like he said "for the 2" it was probably "from the 2". My bad.
The announcer made a mistake. The first touchdown was followed by a two point conversion, making the score 8-0 not 7-0. But I am guessing after their next touchdown Yale missed the extra point, giving them 14 as the announcer said.
It was a good game only wish they could be as exciting today, no reason for sissy overtime, do your job the best you can. Today you can look at recent information levels, what they SHOULD do and you have your winner (no need to watch the game). I am just glad they did not have DO OVERs yet.
Overtime is a weird thing, since the momentum can quickly shift in overtime. For example, Minnesota in 2006 had a lot of momentum over Penn State going into overtime, but a missed extra point followed by a pass interference call knocked the wind out of the Golden Gophers' sails. Penn State won that game 28-27.

How did they win 29-29? They would have gone into overtime wouldnt they??
BringAaronTehHorizon 10 months ago
@BringAaronTehHorizon
There was no overtime in 1968. The game ended after 60 minutes, regardless of the score.
jeglpz 9 months ago
@jeglpz Then how did they say who wins?
BringAaronTehHorizon 9 months ago
@BringAaronTehHorizon
Neither team actually won--Harvard's claim is really a "moral victory," not an actual one. The result on the record books is a tie.
jeglpz 9 months ago
@BringAaronTehHorizon It's an ironic statement first used as a headline in the Harvard student newspaper The Crimson in its report of the game.

Cartoonist Gary Thrueau created the character "B. D." in Doonesbury in homage to Brain dowling, the Yale Quarterback.

Astounding irony-
Only two presidents are buried at Arlington National Cemetery
William Howard Taft- the first Yale graduate to be elected president of the USA
John F. Kennedy- up until now, the last Harvard graduate to serve as president
