  • Poor Mother of the Herds... She deserved to have milk for her calves.

  • Beautiful!

  • why would you just film this story and let the calf starve to death, why not take it to a nature rehab facility or just shoot it. seems cruel to me.

  • @bayyliner humans should not intervne

  • Don't like that music

  • The lioness was named Kamanyuk by the locals so I'm told.

  • she doesn't love it... that's what i would call a savanna refrigerator.. keep it alive until it gets hungry...

  • nah, this isn't love, it's called oxytocin

  • I had seen this programme 2months back on the Animal Planet . It is very strange yet very very touching. After watching this programme i strongly believe ..Life Is Beautiful.Thank you so very much to those (Saba Douglous Hamilton &others ) for shooting this whole episode & bring it to the limelight for a common man to view the mysterious life of African jungles.

  • She want hungry. Humans are the only species that kill for reasons other than food.

  • @mcline007 Have you never seen animals kill and leave it's kill?

  • @mcline007 you have to see the mutual of Omaha special on this story. The Lioness actually adopted the baby and would hunt down game and try to feed the oryx the meat. She protected the poor thing until it unfortunately passed away. The oryx was too young to eat grass and the lion had no milk.

  • One more!!!!

  • The song sucks!

  • bizzare

  • later, however, this lioness ate this fawn.

  • @xake19 That is not true, they both vanished in the bush and have not been seen in the area, they have been called immortal spirits. A sign reminiscent of the day the lion will lay with the lamb, by the locals. They have attracted tourist, and they are a sign. In fact animals in the savanna are breaking a lot of fixed rules int he animal kingdom.

  • She is a cruel animal. She is a lion. But it doesn't mean she cannot be a good mother for the other animal like oryx. Sometimes i feel animal better than human cuz human always kill each other and kill they baby before the baby born. Sad.

  • lucky thing

  • doesn't that oryx just eat grass and other plants? why would it starve?

now that it has protection from the lioness, you'd think it could go out and eat safely without being killed.

  • @whalenbrowne the lioness would have to keep guard 24/7 of the baby oryx and would starve herself while the baby oryx still needs its biological mother's milk.

  • they both died about 6 weeks later from starvation , the lioness wouldnt eat and the baby oryx was to little to feed , sad but true

  • Unbelievable.....

  • im surprised the baby didn't starve to death

  • i would like to be adopted by o lioness

  • like the music

  • I agree to rawn4203, transported them and keep next each other they can talk and care each others. but not touch each ather, hemmmm whats next of the world is change, cat with mouse now was friendly, and dog with cat was no problem, HOW ABOUT ARAB ISRAEL?

  • What is this on the bottom of the screen on 0:48 ?A leg of another semi-dead oryx?

  • Well, if you've got to be adopted, that's the kind of mother you'd want to be adopted by!!

  • Wasn't looking*

  • yeah. I watched it on a TV Special. She lets the Oryx out of her sight so they could get some water but then another pride came and killed it while she wasn't looks. Then she went emo, ate some food, and adopted another Oryx. Then disappeared.

  • omfg you guys i heard that a group of male lions ate it when is mother wasn't looking!

  • This lioness is facing some identity crisis, existential questions.

  • @gustavinho71 ahaha i said the EXACT same thing when i saw this bahaha

  • @mysecretscankill Lol :) . That is a hell of a coincidence ,isn't it ?

    regards

  • @gustavinho71 yess siiir !

  • the oryx shaking..haha..every scond can die,haha

  • I wish the folks following this story could have shot both the lion and the oryx with a tranquilizer gun and transported them to a zoo......would have been a great attraction and the poor oryx wouldnt have been killed.

  • A scene of tenderness.

  • I'm curious if it's a nomadic female that doesn't belong to a pride. Sometimes there is irregular behavior from these types.

  • VEGATARIAN LION!!!!

  • LOL XD

  • This is just one of the biggest mysteries of nature. Science still has a lot of ground to cover. But the only explanation they can offer is by stamping human emotion on her. They think she might have been depressed because she wasn't able to have her own cubs. So this young oryx seemed to provide her with the oppertunity she always wanted. Even if it was killing both of them. Her desire to care for the young calf won over her hunger. In many ways she is a "Blessed One'!

  • the lionless kept the Baby Oryx for more than 2 weeks with her

  • i could see how you would say it was saving this "food" for later, but they went 14 days together. the lioness would lay in the shade because she didn't have enough energy to walk at times. she was really starving, if she wanted to eat it, she would have when she first found it, or shortly thereafter. it's very amazing. i think a mother oryx was killed and then reincarnated into a lioness body.

  • bence aslan et taze kalsın diye birşey yapmamayı tercih etmiş =)

  • The lioness is not hungry, but guarding a potential future food source. Don't read anything maternal into fthis. A lioness will cut her own cub's throat, if it poses a threat to the majority.

  • They'll kill their cubs if they are sick and can't keep up. Many animals will "mercy kill" sick or deformed babies.

  • I think you're wrong on this specific issue bookkeeper. The lioness would not eat at all. People even threw her fresh meat steaks and she would not eat it. I think the lioness was depressed and didn't want to eat meat in front of the calf. Whatever the reason, one thing is for sure they were both weak and hungry.

  • You're an idiot bookkeeper. If the lioness was going to eat the baby she would have then and there. wtf are you talking about? She was obviously caring for the baby and for whatever unknown reason refused to eat.

  • your a fucking idiot dusche bag just because your a cold unfeeling ass hole and think that way doesn't mean animals more sophisticated than you don't have more feeling and emotion. Your a retard open your mind and shut your mouth

  • Open your mind and shut YOUR mouth: the lion is a predator, and kills to eat. And whatever you think is the reason for

this behaviour, it's outside the norm. This is an open forum: if you disagree with a post you find here, don't get

personal, or resort to name calling.

Whoever you are, you need to grow up some.

  • that is not a regular behavior, it would have killed the prey and eat it later, it wouldnt keep it alive, it´s often seen that animals adopting babies from other species.

  • I guess so: it happens pretty often.

    But this is really unusual.

  • hmm i do not understand.. how can a lioness adopt a food ???

amazing... just left me with lot of questions...

  • love yeah right. loves to it later on!!

  • She never ate the oryx, another lion did.

I cried when i saw it on animal planet.

  • there there lil latina...

  • é a cpoisa mais linda do mundo, a amizade deste homem com esses animais

  • lioness who decided to be different from others, angel

  • Amazing...and after reading the outcome of the calf on this thread...what a sad ending. :(

  • not the end though, she did this 5 more times, amazingly

  • yeah would have bin great to follow it and see what happened once it hade grown up :)

  • I seen this on TV on BBC about a year or two ago. Eventually a male lion attacked and killed the calf when the mother went to look for food. It was really sad... the lioness looked heartbroken

  • yeah! i had seen it on tv too =] oh! n the commentry also said that the lioness also adopted some more of oryx cub after this incident...

  • that baby oryx will have pretty good protection as long as it stay with the "mother"

  • :X It isn't getting any milk, though, so unless it can find another mother oryx, it would starve.

But it actually got eaten by another lion.

  • just a taste of "Paradise"... that's all we get.

  • one day for those who pay homage to the creator will be in bliss, god willing

  • If that can happen...why can't we live in peace?

  • The only way we can help this world is to leave it we do not deserve to live on this earth we need to move and leave this world to the Animal Kingdom.

    We need to colonize space.

  • @EuthanizeReligion You know how you can get to space. Take a jump off a bridge ... the awaiting ship will pick you up. Don't worry we will all follow after you jump ...

  • @EuthanizeReligion will probably fuck that shit up too. aliens will probably be like "damn everything was so nice before human came and fucked everything up i knew we should of never visited"

  • @EuthanizeReligion i just wish idiots who post things like this would leave it..

  • @EuthanizeReligion wow this is far the stupidest comment ever seen in my life.....you know what I still have hope for us "humans" and we are as much part of this world like the rest of the animal kingdom.....I'm pro-earth as well as pro-human we're just getting started to better ourselves so don't give up on us there's always hope my friend

  • @Ivanirva Because we have politicians and religion

  • @Ivanirva Like the lion did not kill it later on.

  • @atworkguy it didn't she watched after it and tried to keep it safe, even hunting other food, but not wanting to leave the baby behind.

  • @ash9023 Sure!

  • @Ivanirva Natural selection will keep such lions in check.

  • @Ivanirva Torah (Bible) is registered to come "live wolf and lamb together"

  • @Ivanirva The Torah (Bible) written in the future "wolf and lamb will live together"

  • Isa 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

  • wow...thats deep

  • true

  • Coz she is saddd

  • Bu haliyle yese karnı doymayacak. Besleyip bakıyor ki ilerde eti butu yerine gelince ohhh misss diye afiyetle yiyecek. :))))

  • この動画探しました~!ようやく見つけてやっぱり感激です!!

  • Friendship between species does happen but I never seen this with a lioness and basically her food. Awesome!

  • Blasphemers. They are living in sin.

  • fattening it up for the kill

  • lol ... true

  • that shows that animals have good heart..whatt makes them attack its because they are hungry they have no choice..this prove that love and affection is stronger than anything..

  • maybe the lion couldnt have babies of her own and just got really lonely...

  • raw nature always hold my attention better then ne movie ever could

  • Maybe even carnivorous predators have a heart?

I know I'd have a few moral conflictions if I had to kill and make suffer everything I ate. bet it takes character to be a carnivore.

  • Unfortunately, "Kameeyack" and I have the samel life.

  • the Lioness could have been sterile so thats why she adopted the Oryx, she just wanted to have a cub of her own.:(

  • I saw the show also, lion would allow her to go back to the mother for milk, only a couple times and the lion would get her back after wards.

The lion might have been sick and just did not want to be alone.

Nature can be very odd, throw some curveballs every now and then.

  • Also, at the end of the show, a male lion leaped out of the bushes and killed the Oryx.

  • The full video on TV was really amazing. I thought there was a reason tho that the baby couldn't return to it's mother - the herd moved on or something? I don't recall it being the fault of the lioness that the calf remained separated.

  • i didnt know David Attenborough spoke japanese

  • she seems so confused at times though. like what am i supposed to do with it now?

  • I watched this yesterday on Animal Planet and searched it to see if anyone posted it. So sad when the baby oryx dies... amazing that the same lioness adopted 5 MORE baby oryx. Thank You for posting this!!

  • Are you serious? I didn't know she adopted 5 more of them!

  • This made me cry sooo hysterically...To have to watch her "baby" killed right before her eyes and her being too weak to stop it...so sad...such is nature.

  • i watched this at National Geographic...shame dat the baby oryx died at the last part bcoz of a male lion who was stalking the baby oryx...made me cry looking at the lioness when she cant do anything about it...

  • Man, this made worldwide news! I had no idea!

  • Props to that lion. It's gotta be like having a juicy, sirloine steak sitting in front of you as you reat it instead of devouring it.

  • How beautiful is this? Maybe it's true after all about what the Bible says.

  • By adopting this baby animal, the lioness guaranteed the Oryx would die. The baby Oryx needed milk and was not old enough to digest grass.

  • Right???I kept wishing she would just let her adopted baby go back to it's herd! She was too lonely I guess.

  • Only its mother would nurse this baby. Other lactating Oryxs would deny the baby milk. If her mother was already dead, then nothing could save her.

  • I know & the oryx did go back to her mother for milk. The womans website went more into detail telling how Lioness would allow her to return to her mother to wean but when she wouldn't come back to her she would chase down the herd to get the baby back.Lioness' presence made the herd move on w/o the baby.Thats the only way the calf survived all that time.Lioness adopted more oryx calves over the next year,1 starved to death, others escaped, then Lioness disappeared.None remained as long as the 1st.

  • This reminds me of the scripture: "and the lion and the lamb shall lie down together" - okay it's a baby oryx, but the principle is the same.

  • i watched this on the animal planet..

  • me to! but i only caught the end where she adopted a baby antalope and then the male lion killed it and she mourned over it like it was her own baby. that was cool, i wounder if she joined back up with her pride?

  • I cried after watching this. thanks so much
