Remember, Lakers didn't win until Kobe developed. If Kobe was truly a sidekick, then the Lakers would have won the first year when they got Shaq and Kobe since Shaq was already developed at that point. But no, it took Kobe some time to develop his game and that's when they started winning.

I agree with that up to a point. Shaq was OFF THE CHARTS in 1999-2000. He was never better...one of the best single seasons in history, regardless of the sport. And yes, Kobe developed. But LA also added some great role players (Shaw, Harper, Green, Salley) with big time/championship experience. I think it just became their time...much the way that MJ needed Pip and Grant to ascend in '91...but he was still the undisputed bellcow of that team. 2001 was when it became 1/1a in LA
