I remember the tour when they performed this live. They were not the main liners and opened for Jethro Tull. They blew Ian Anderson off the stage. Unfortunately, they did not play an encore.
So are they ever going to perform live again? I had the good fortune of seeing Greg Lake perform with Ringo Star's all star band in 2000 at a small arena in NJ, USA. He sang an excerpt of Karn Evil 9, and Sheila E played the drums. It was my favorite part of the whole show. What about Emerson and Lake? I know they are aging, hopefully they've not yet retired, but if they have, then I wish them well and thank them for their wonderful work which had a positive impact on my life.
ELP are reuniting on the 25th July 2010 in London at the High Voltage Festival. Emerson & Lake are also doing a bit of a USA tour beforehand (don't know much about it since i'm in the uk and haven't been following it)
Emerson was great at this show, but Greg obviously couldn't hate being there more and makes mistakes constantly (case in point, second line in this video is completely wrong). Awesome band though, and a great song.
Would you look at the pinache with which Emerson tickles those ivories!! He can't throw the grand piano around the way he chucked the electric organs all over the stage, but it still sounds pretty darn HOT!!
Good for you! I have a similar story. The seven year old son of my sister was visiting with his mother. He was never into music and never a dancer, but the haunting Hammond and the drumming of Carl was to mutch for the little guy so he had to dance and move all the parts of his body. 'That is Emerson (as we call ELP in the family) that is the music your uncle loves', my sister said. Everybody, including the little guy was smiling proudly.
The end was nigh: I have this DVD and when you watch the whole thing the tensions within the band are quite apparent I find. At the end of the show, Greg just walks off stage as if he couldn't get away from Keith fast enough.
That said: The ELP reunion is slated to take place fall 2009!!!!!
@ZeppelinFromtheLake Yeah, as you get older, the voice deepens and it's harder to hit the high notes with the vocal chords. Still, they do a great job.
hi greg, u've still got some female fans, we think uv contributed a lot to music,we've enjoyed it. and still do... thanks a lot! what a creative group u were. x
Honestly, I thought this was a GREAT performance, Lake's voice sounds a heck of alot different now, but he is still a good vocalist. And of course Keith is AMAZING!
It was around the time this was filmed that he stopped smoking. On his 2005 UK tour the difference in his voice was more than evident; much stronger - still deep as it is on this video though. I suppose all those years of smoking and not training his voice properly (allegedly) have taken their toll.
Greg Lake really is not that fat. He just has a gigantic bulbus head. Even in the early 70's he looked like the tip of a ball park frank superglued to the bottom of a beach ball.
music to listen to, by the masters of prog-rock, anybody wants to see preety boy floyd, slim jim, your in the wrong video, we all getting fat, so what, at least they still alive and kicking butt!
everything's fat, to a beanpole! More amazing is how stick-people can eat twice the normal amount and not gain an ounce! weight issues notwithstanding, this is still a great performance!
It's really strange, because over the course of 20 years or so, Greg's tone of voice dropped by pretty much a whole octave.

Greg Lake turned into everyone's Dad.
Cool song though, they rarely played this one back in the day.

The better the musician the more efficient their playing so they have a lot of economy of motion.
