Ever wish you could bike commute with Lance Armstrong legs? The Bionx is basically letting you do that. I love my system!!! I set it to level 3 and this allows me to bike at my race pace without sweating it up for work.
I have reviews of the BionX PL-250 and the BionX PL-350 on my web site, as well as a personal story of test riding my first BionX. I have a total of 5 years' experience of 2 different BionX systems, and I have a lot to say about their good points and bad points - see if you can find my blog - I am Average Joe Cyclist
What a good demonstation. How about a handlebar camera instead of sag wagon? E bike would be out of batteries in 20 miles and road biker would pass and take the lead. Restaurants and bars are going to need empty outlets to keep ebikers rolling.
Now do a comparison with someone in an electric wheelchair and someone running up the mountain road. Again the electric guy wins. Proves being lazy is better perhaps?
My cycling route between my house and work is 30kms. I currently ride that route 3days a week. This is because some days I have to work late and am completely tired from a long hard day of working. So I catch the Bus. Most people wouldn't even dream of doing that.
With one of these I could ride every day and even go for weekend rides with my friends as well.
doesn't mean he wins at life, just that he's in better shape. the guy on the electric is probably having more fun anyway, so by many definition he wins at life, or at least the biking aspect.
These electric bike systems are great I can see bicycle use being greatly expanded by use of these. Many people enjoy riding their bike but do not enjoy huffing and puffing up hills. These systems make it easier for normal people but they still get exercise. Bike snobs do not like them but nobody asked them anyway.
of course the electric bike wins. Even if that guy is putting out a miserable 100 watts, and I assume that the 350 in the name of the electric bike is the wattage, thats still 450 watts of sustained power. If he weighs 200 lbs, this is 5 watts per kg sustained for 20 mins. According to a power chart, that's as strong as a UCI DIV 3 pro cyclist.
i think this is not a real road cyclist...he drives bad, unstably and jumps on the bike....plus he is small.Big and trained pursuiter cyclist would beat both.Ive seen fast cyclists but he is not one of them.
This is a continuous 5 degree climbing grade for 10 km. A street legal bike (500W motor power in Canada) will not have enough power to provide sufficient speed to beat the road biker (even a bad one), and the battery will be empty much before the finish line. Illegal, high-powered monsters (e.g. X-5 with 50 amp cotroller) will probably beat any road biker without pedaling but they will need at least 1.5 kWHr of Lithium battery capacity to get to the Finish line.

An electric bike , can help . There are people out there who from no fault of their own have lung problems etc
and no they DONT smoke and they are NOT frigging fat. Or an Elder person wanting to go out for a ride and then when they have peddled enuf and cant tackle the hill they get the bionx help. An electric bike can help to get them out in the fresh air independently, obviously the lighter the bike the better!
The reason for the uphill race is because on flats, the road bike will easily win. I know because I have a bionx and can only maintain 22-23 comfortably on flats. A decent rider can easily go faster than that.
Pointless comparison. It's all about the 'engine, or in this case the rider. A weak rider on one bike and a strong rider on another will produce an obvious result, whatever the merits of either bike.
you miss the point I think. Of course no race would allow a motor but Bionx makes bike riding possible for people who normally won't ride . Also think what it can do for good riders.
Even more so what if people instead of taking the car, bus or moped in the city / to work in rainfree days / .. took this then they would probably not think it was that hard, especially if it's like 20+ km or so, and it would be very cheap and environmental friendly since it runs on electricity, and very little compared to even an electric car I guess due to the much lower weight. So for lazy fucks it's awesome :D

Well, What about all the cars passing both riders...
Aren't the people in those cars the real winners?

The guy on the road bike wins at life because he's clearly a fitter dude.

If only people used their cars for long trips and rode electric bikes to get to near town destinations.

Wouldn't an e-bike win even if the rider doesn't pedal at all?

Please read the comment below the video:
If the Birdy rider was on that road bike he would not be able to finish the race at all -- that's how miserable his fitness state is ...
jvbike11 3 years ago
I since discovered that the fat Birdy rider is using an electric bike. It has a Bionix motor on it.
no contest at all.
