powell needs to be more aggresive and run through the line. In his races if he's first he relaxes through the line because he is still gunna win, and when he's not winning he relaxes through the line cause he gives up. He ran through the line in the 4x100m in beijing with outstanding results.

I think Powell would benefit from more focus on 150-200m in training. His acceleration and top speed is superb and he can match or beat Bolt and Gay over the 1st 60m but they appear to pull away in the final 30 due to their superior speed endurance(from training for the 200), coupled with his weak mentality; rather than fight through the fatigue to minimize deceleration he gives up . I hope he improves on one or both of these weaknesses and finally fulfills his potential. Jamaica to the World!
@PantherFistSnakeArm asafa had his worst winter to date before this race. lack of training due to a very bad ankle injury meant the hard work required for a sufficient finish did not happen in early 2009. Lined up on a start line, fully fit, healthy, at the physical peak, asafa is faster than gay without question. the winter of 2009/2010 was the first time in 5 years he was not injured. the performances speak for themselves, 9.7 twice this year already. first 5 races were all faster than 9.85

I agree man. Why would he fake an injury just before the biggest competition of his life. He injured himself during the US Olympic trials, but went to the Olympics any way not being 100%. at the end of the day if you can't run 9.7 consistently don't line up and right now there are only three men that can do that, Bolt, Powell, Gay, gay is not a threat however because if you watch the race closely Powell stayed in his drive phase far too long and basically jogged it after (i assume for training purposes) and ran a 9.9 in strong wind, Gay managed a 9.79 running a technically sound race in that same wind with maximum effort so to me Powell is ahead of Gay right now going into Berlin
Powell's form was far from perfect in this race. Also running a 9.72 is an amazing accomplishment, but now there's a couple of people still ahead of him. If Powell want's to be the best he needs to focus on his form. Look at the race earlier this year when Bolt beat Powell. Powell got out on Bolt. Powell then edged towards the right of the lane then the left. That's when Bolt passed him up. Powell corrected himself but it was too late. In a race like the 100 you have to run in a straight line.

i think usain bolt is similar to powell in a sense that when he's broke away from the group he gets a good time but can't run as well with runners by him therefore in beijing may not have run 9.5 if pushed

This 9.79 by Gay is nothing to Bolt. Bolt will run a world record if he's pushed all the way, he hasn't been pushed all year, that's why his times are slow and misleading. Imagine if Bolt was pushed when he ran 9.69, he would run 9.5.

Yes that is true. I think Tyson knows that Usain Bolt will be very difficult to beat. Usain has such a Height advantage and he is very quick. Hes jamaican, we are born sprinters.

Sprinters only have a life span of 2-5 years max. I thnik this is powell's last year as a top 100m runner. That is the problem with track and field you age and slow down.

I agree man. Why would he fake an injury just before the biggest competition of his life. He injured himself during the US Olympic trials, but went to the Olympics any way not being 100%. Before the injury, Gay was the man to beat. And for those who have any doubt, he has beaten Bolt a few times before we even knew who Bolt was. I certainly didn't know who Bolt was until he won at the Olmpics.

at the end of the day if you can't run 9.7 consistently don't line up and right now there are only three men that can do that, Bolt, Powell, Gay, gay is not a threat however because if you watch the race closely Powell stayed in his drive phase far too long and basically jogged it after (i assume for training purposes) and ran a 9.9 in strong wind, Gay managed a 9.79 running a technically sound race in that same wind with maximum effort so to me Powell is ahead of Gay right now going into Berlin

Powell's form was far from perfect in this race. Also running a 9.72 is an amazing accomplishment, but now there's a couple of people still ahead of him. If Powell want's to be the best he needs to focus on his form. Look at the race earlier this year when Bolt beat Powell. Powell got out on Bolt. Powell then edged towards the right of the lane then the left. That's when Bolt passed him up. Powell corrected himself but it was too late. In a race like the 100 you have to run in a straight line.

Both Gay and Bolt run flawless technical races. Look at Powell. His elbows are out, he's running back and forth in his lane until his 10th step. He needs someone to pound in his head the importance of mechanics in his races.

What are you talking about? Asafa Powell is in perfect form while running. The only reason why his form is different fron Bolt and Gay is that Powell has much more muscle, while Bolt and Gay are much more skinny.

Tyson is peaking this year and he could beat bolt if bolt has a off day. Bolt is faster but not by much so if tyson has his race of his life he can beat bolt in fact i would not be surprised if tyson beats bolt in both 100m and 200m.

All things are possible, but i'm rooting for Bolt, and Asafa might surprise everyone. Gay is always a contenter. I think Bolt will get the 200m by about 5m ahead of tyson, but the 100m, bolt has to have a great start and get into his upright form early to secure a win.

Bolt probably is the only who does not use drugs: he ran 20,5 at 15, 19,9 at 17 it's insane!!!! and so are his times now. Gay physic look very suspicius (cartoon butocks) and he runs in mad frequency from start through the finish. I don't get it.

gay is the only person to challenge bolt. asafa doesnt have the memtal ability to perform when it really matters. take gay and bolt out of the equation and he will perform, but not when he is against either one
