  • This video looks like it was made in the 70's just like the archaic idea of adding more streetcars that travel slower than the average bike rider.

  • @nervouss Actually, with their own lanes on wide suburban streets and fewer stops, the modern LRT in Toronto would be fast and efficient. The fact is that many suburban bus routes are overcrowded and the extra capacity and reliability of light rail in its own right-of-way would really help.

  • lets face it the ttc suck, too expensive new york is the best. the system frankly sucks a toy train set. new york rocks toronto sucks and boring.....

  • To European. Subways are better.

  • @kidkappa04 Rob Ford wants to build subways but the Province of Ontario and city hall workers wants L-trains.

  • @TTCsubway1204 The people of Toronto want subways. that's all that matters.

  • will the new lrt smell like poo like the one in scarborough

  • I'm expecting an express Union-Airport train... If they have a brain, they'll get it.

  • Why abandon these neighborhoods and leave them with crowded transit, only to force them to buy more cars which is a lot more expensive to buy 10-40 small vehicle per 40 people (which will add up to more money than you think it will and roads more congested than thought possible) than one large, non-polluting, very fast, sleek and attractive car, just for the sake of spending 4 times more money on cars, buses, subway car, drilling, and stations. Not to forget the environmental impact.

  • Subways are very expensive to build and operate. Unless you're willing to print more money from the B of C then dont think about subways since many people dont want to pay higher taxes for them

  • @juliachan1987 it not a subway dumass

  • I'm still confused as to how sticking traintracks in the middle of the city's most popular streets, is going to help traffic.

Also, in the CGI demonstration in the video above.... it's as if they've forgotten that the LRT has to stop at traffic lights.

  • @regan4000 in regards to LRT having to stop at traffic lights. They'll probably do what Brampton Transit/VIVA will begin doing, have priority traffic lights that will allow them move more easily thru intersections.

I would like to see the GTA use a one fare system for TTC, YRT and the Peel Transits systems. But I dont support them to amalgamate. The TTC has PR and other issues that I dont want to see get associated to the 905 transit systems.

  • Yes..l remember Calgary's LRT in 2001. But the video isnt about that.

  • of course it sounds good to just "build a subway instead of lrt". every1 would want that.

but really whos going to pay for it? no one has the money!!

its either lrt (which is better than buses) or nothing/beg for a subway.

lrt will probably work better in the suburbs than the ttc's experiences with st clair/spadina. they have wider roads, less red lights, and less street parking. therefore less hassle to build.

  • @canaidol They have the money. Cut down on "socialist" programs, and get government out of business it shouldn't be and they money is there. Reduce bureaucracy and make transit EFFICIENT. Been to NYC? Subways all over the place. Stop squeezing businesses. so they can STAY here and the money will be there. FUCK IDEOLOGY. Allow private companies to build new subways as well as operate them with PROPER REGULATION, so we dont get another 407 Scam.

  • LRT are the worst thing ever! Just look at what has happened to St. Clair West, its just aweful...Toronto is too densely populated and tooo cold...we need more subways not street cars! Torontonians love the subway...doesn't the mayor understand why Torontonians are willing to pay upward of $300,000 for a tiny apartment next to the subway line...it's because we love the subway...nobody like waiting in the cold for the streetcar and everybody loves the speed and efficiency of the rocket!

  • You have no idea how LRT is the best choice. There are experts to figure these thing, not you.

  • And im sure you would know better, cuz you're SURELY a goddamn expert right? Subway may be more expensive in the short term, but causes less headache to commuters every day. Having major routes such as eglinton, jane and sheppard torn to pieces while a slow LRT conversion process is being done doesnt help the local economy whatsoever.

  • Actually I am. Listen up, I make it simple for you. First of all a subway is a heavy rail. The Scarborough RT is in fact Light Rail Transit(LRT) and it seems to be going just fine. As you know(or not) the LRT goes at the same speed as a subway. Its stops are also just as far away from each other as a subway so why would there be a headache to commuters. The difference between the LRT and the subway is that the LRT carries less people because it doesn't have such a high ridership.

  • Do some research! Subways are way faster than LRT lines and subways are underground and therefore do not disturb traffic like the LRT does. Furthermore the LRT blocks the middle of major throughfares in the city making it impossible to cross except for at major intersections causing long line-up of commuters waiting to make u-turns...why don't you go down to St.Clair West and take a look at how stupid it is!

  • Why not send a letter to the mayor or the Head of the TTC. If you get laughed at it's not my fault. Just think about it. Having Subways all around the city would be ridiculous. Even though you like the subway, it's just too big for those streets. Adding Subway line are only needed if the ridership is high. The LRT is efficient because it has a ridership between that of a subway and a bus route. It's perfect even though some people are to blind to see it. Comfortable yet efficient. P-E-R-F-E-C-T!

  • laughed at? lol. The head of TTC is too busy wasting taxpayer money to pay attention to a mere peasant like me. Tearing up streets and causing congestion is already on the top of his agenda.

  • Oh well like you can do anything for it. It doesn't matter what any of us thinks, it's already being done. But it has to be done because even if you don't agree, we need it. As I said, subways around the city is STUPID. You're forgetting the size of Toronto, you think it's one of the largest cities in the world HA! Tokyo has almost the same # of people as all of Canada. Either you get a headache by buses or ride an LRT because their is no way they're going to build new subways.

  • Such narrow minded thinking....if we always thought theat way none of todays subways would be running...subways are an important infrastructure tool that you build and then ridership increases because more people move towards it....just look at the Sheppard line...ridership is increasing all the time even though the line didn't warrant a subway when it was first built...

  • I'm sorry but it still inefficient and so LRT is the best choice. In the distant future they may be tuned to subways but not know. It doesn't work that day. Ridership is a key, key factor, the entire reason behind the operation but its a factor you seem to ignore.

  • More and more high density residential and commercial building are being built up around the Sheppard line and eventually it will be just as packed as the other lines...especially once all those new condos at Leslie/Sheppard are finished ando occupied

  • i dont like the fact of LRTs, will they get to change the traffic lights so they go faster?

  • i'd say more subway lines would still be a better alternative

  • miller is making this worst..

  • The TTC can't give Toronto "fast, reliable, comfortable" transit now- why get our hopes up now!

  • when is it actually gonna happen?

  • i live on sheppherd, its gonna look like spadina, looks good, but it sucks for driving now.

  • omg!!! i cant wait , its beautiful!=D
