These beliefs are the result of a lifelong programming process that began in infancy and is reinforced through actions,experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Religion is one aspect. This extends to politics and society. These belief can be changed, but the re-programming process is very difficult and near impossible with true believers.
I don't understand how atheist can say religious people are so closed minded. Seeing how there are thousands of religions and other spiritual ventures out there, I would say people who believe in God tend to be to open minded. The problem is that within the infallible written word of God in all three of the major Abrahimic mono-thiestic religions there is a call to spread the religion. Meaning within each of those religions there exists the belief that said religion should not be private, but should be forced. Whether we like it or not the argument, "because its God's will" is a good enough argument to validate the removal of personal freedoms within constitutionally secular nations, ie. the U.S.

Pascal's wager is one of the stupidest, most outdated arguments against atheism I've ever heard. If you actually believe its a logical argument, search for a debunking of it, and trust me, there's more than enough of those.
Alright fine, then answer me this. If Pascal's wager is logical, why doesn't it take into account all religions? Why is Pascal's wager formed in a way that only includes two possibilities: a Christian god or No God? What if Islam is the true religion? Judaism? Hinduism? The wager at that point becomes a shot in the dark. There a dozens of major religions, not including tribal religions and subgroups. The chance of me picking the right one is extremely small. The argument then falls apart.

What I meant to get across was that the way she stated it, that she HAD to say something if someone didn't believe in God seemed exactly like his argument, but on the other side. She definitely deserves to state that she believes in God - thats her right... but if shes going to try to force her beliefs (which it seemed like it) then its exactly what he was doing.

If you deep down believe there is a God then you have decided already (which is absolutely great). how about the topic of conversation never comes up? either side has no right to inflict their beliefs on someone else, nor is it necessary to bring up beliefs in a topic of conversation. beliefs are something you should discuss in private with people you trust and people who will accept them. The problem is that within the infallible written word of God in all three of the major Abrahimic mono-thiestic religions there is a call to spread the religion. Meaning within each of those religions there exists the belief that said religion should not be private, but should be forced. Whether we like it or not the argument, "because its God's will" is a good enough argument to validate the removal of personal freedoms within constitutionally secular nations, ie. the U.S.

Alright fine, then answer me this. If Pascal's wager is logical, why doesn't it take into account all religions? Why is Pascal's wager formed in a way that only includes two possibilities: a Christian god or No God? What if Islam is the true religion? Judaism? Hinduism? The wager at that point becomes a shot in the dark. There a dozens of major religions, not including tribal religions and subgroups. The chance of me picking the right one is extremely small. The argument then falls apart.

In my opinion - everyone should be titled to their beliefs so long as they aren't trying to stuff them down anyones throat. supermashedbros, I think that you are not agnostic. If you deep down believe there is a God then you have decided already (which is absolutely great). For me however, I don't feel I have had enough life experiences to say for certain, so as of now I remain skeptical, but hopeful that I will be able to figure that out myself.

This guy makes no sense whatsoever. People are always complaining that Christians try to push their beliefs on people but what's he doing? I'm not a christian. I believe in God but I don't believe in organized religion. he's being ridiculous. why is it so hard to respect other people's opinions? you don't have to agree but don't be an asshole and try to make someone feel bad for their beliefs.
