@alanheath you are right ... i live in dresden and the frauenkirche is just amazing ...i´m glad , dresden tried to bring that up with social helps and voluntary financial givings... i´m a stonemazen myself and i´m happy to find this amount of great architecture in this city , even after the devastating bombings in 45 and the 40 years of command economy.

I am really glad that we can see these old films so we can see what it was like 20 years ago. I never visited Dresden under socialism although I did drive past it on the motorway. However I was in Magdeburg and the bomb damage was everywhere still - nearly forty years after the end of the war.
@alanheath I visited in communist tiems as well as recently and I love that its heart is restored ; not just in the bulidings either. Oh and you'll find the original and best Stollen is baked in that beautiful resilient old city. I order it online from England.

Huertgenwald. I wouldn't worry about being called a nazi. It is far worse to be called English. After all the English have created far more attrocities and crimes against humanity in their history than the nazis have, They are still doing it to billions of people, starving the out and grabbing their land. The romans brought culture the occupied lands, therefore I can not talk about them as invaders. Actually the romans were the best before 1945 the germans had to deal with. The british and the french did an agreement in Versailes 1918, an agreement which was mend to secure peace (?) and in order to keep peace (?) they should have looked after it who Germany was keeping to the agreement. Germany did not obey at most of the points the britih and the french and in some points the americans and the germans did agree to. It was a very strong and well trained army, aand together with the czechs the german nazis would have had no chance. Together with a blockade at sea and air superiority by the british the Nazis could have defeated and democracy could have established in Germany. Britain did very often do turn away. The Nazi regime mobilized the army, the airforce, the Navy in huge scales and totally against the Treaty of Versailles which was written by France and Britain to avoid war(?)
And it was more than evident that this regime will cause the next war sooner or later. The pocket battleships were builded before 1933 but already these ships were over the limit of the treaty. But we got of topic here I think.

The intentions of the Munich conference were of course to avoid war. It was just a bit naive to think that this would secure peace in Europe. Munich was used by the Nazis to manipulate the folks even more about the minorities and their fate in the eastern parts of Europe. They used the deal from Munich very often to justify attacks on eastern parts.

The allies showed with their really brilliant trained and skilled crews a numerous times during Operation "crossbow" for example, that precision bombing was possible. A difficult task, but it was possible. Areal bombings are not an inch better than sending V1 and V2s to London, Antwerp or other cities just in the stupid assumption that moral bombing works for the people who send them

the allied bombings which were used against civil targets helped the Nazis a lot. The Nazis could pretend to help the people, they gave them food, water and shelter after the allied bombing raids. So it was unfortunatly good for the Nazis. On the otherside, same happened to the people who were bombed by the germans. Nothing welds more together than sharing the same suffering caused by the same enemy. So moral-bombing didnt work for the allied military and didnt work for the german military
