I am curious if there is going to be video/audio broadcast options, it would be really cool to do impromptu live collaborations and broadcast them over the internet with this-
This looks amazing! My composer and I are trying to figure out how to record a symphony made up of different classical players from around the world...this looks like a solution ^_^
this is freakin beast, ive already made plans to order one after seeing this video. now can somebody explain why i need the headset? i have a few i just wanna know why its necisary
the headset isn't necessary at all, it's just the easiest way to get started. The output of the jamLink is a 1/8" stereo headphone jack. In my set up, I run a cable from my jamLink headphone output to a stereo channel in my mixing board so I can hear the jamLink thru my studio monitors. Then I have a talkback mic patched into one of the JamLink's inputs.
I'm the guitar player in the video. Whoa...cool down there! Of course I was using something to get that tone. I was uing my Line 6 POD Xt. Dave was using his Roland V-drums. We didn't go into details about the instruments we were playing...we we demonstrating the JamLink, its abilty to let us jam over our home internet connections. We were 80 miles apart, and we both have standard Comcast cable internet. Any other questions? :)
Yes, you can record to any recording program or interface that you want. This demo was recorded from the jamLink output going into Sonar. But we could just as easily have used Audacity. The distance between you and the other person generally has more of an effect on the "lag", but you still need a minimum of 800kbps per upstream/downstream connection. So if just you and your friend want to jam online over the jamLinks, you each need 800kbps upstream and downstream bandwidth.
Does anyone know if this will work at a range of 1200 miles if everyone has the fastest internet connection money can buy?

It's the best thing ever. I did sessions with a drummer who was 200 miles away and it felt like I was 5 feet away from him!

This is the coolest thing. I hope to see a network of Jamlink musicians across the country where virtual bands can be created in minutes. Amazing...
