  • People that go on about 'political correctness gone mad' are the most insufferable cunts in the universe.

  • anti jokes ftw

  • The birth of the antijoke

  • this man is a comic god--- he has managed to take the piss out of right-wing Bigotry and left-wing pussy-footing

  • CUBA!!!

Bernard Righton, now is the time for your comeback... BRING BACK RIGHTON!!!

  • This act sends a message to all those Manning haters out there, who claim he is unfunny- the only thing changed in the act were the punchlines, meaning the timing, delivery, and act in general were all kept the same. Everyone was laughing. Why? Because the part they are conditioned by the PC police to hate Manning for was removed.

  • @DancinJim or possibly because they don't find bigotry funny?

  • @misterlaufeyson Your comment doesn't make any sense at all.

  • @DancinJim the reason people hated bernard manning is because he was a bigot and a terrible human being. it had nothing to do with your paranoid fantasies of "the pc brigade"

  • @misterlaufeyson You are still talking nonsense. Nobody hated Manning except the PC Brigade. Their excuse is that he was a bigot. Their criteria is based on nothing but their easily-offended nature and naivety. You are clearly one of them. Had he been hated universally, he would never have been so successful.

  • @DancinJim i sat through a Bernard Manning show years ago as im open minded enough to let someone have a chance, i really dont get your point at all, the only people he didnt take the piss out of (drum roll) were good old white working class northerners who of course have nothing wrong with them, the man didnt like minorities his comedy was lazy and unimaginative constantly affirming negative stereotypes, how you can watch this and see it as a vindication of Mannings comedy is beyond me

  • @lickstickly You seem to miss the point, that nothing in this clip is different from Manning's style and delivery, except the butt of the joke. I notice you deliberately engineer your comment to imply he favoured only "WHITE working class northerners", trying to imply he was racist. Fact is, he took the piss out of everyone - Irish (white people), Scottish (white people) ... and best yet, HIMSELF (WHITE). Do you have proof he didn't even take the mick out of Northerners?! I doubt it.

  • @lickstickly You're lying. His audience featured strongly as objects of ridicule in Bernard's comedy. Go back to reading the Guardian. You have been brain-washed.

  • lol I bet the 15 dislikes were from Bernard Manning fans

  • @PokerPlum Very

  • more of this

  • There was a black fella....

  • This is a bit of a one joke act isn't it

  • @TheAnxiousMan

    You don't get it.

  • @MadcapMan of course I do. I don't think it can last longer than 10 minutes without getting repetative though

  • Brilliant parody of working mens club comedians

  • the vampire bit is just sublime.

  • I nearly wet myself laughing the first time I saw this, so pleased to find it again.

  • I attach an extract from Time to Emigrate ?

Yet we must recognise that a sentimental attachment to multi-culturalism persists in public opinion. Ethnic or otherwise, the nation has got it into its head that the warm feelings it induces are the fount of human virtue, on a par with Alan Bennett and the NHS. The very word makes people feel good about themselves. That is why anyone who mentions it on Any Questions? earns a round of applause from the audience loud enough to drown its fears.

  • What does that even mean?

I don't pay women the same as men but I'm not going to say it's sexist because I refuse to recognize the word.

  • What it means is that peopIe have the right to like or dislike whomsoever it pleases them to and for whatever reason they choose.

  • Don't be so naive, you and I both know that racism doesn't end at "disliking" people and last I checked the "right" to hate and discriminate against someone for reasons beyond their control didn't exist.

Claiming something is a "right" to try and add validity to it is incredibly transparent.

  • haha, anti-humour at its best!

  • legend

  • Cuba !!

  • "There's a black fella..."

  • This is the BEST, my 17 year old son and me just repeat it all day long, what a great example of a non ageist community :-)

  • (and my favourite quote in Viz was when The Cat in the Hat (Dr Seuss) played football with Billy the Fish and found "a box full of blocks and foxes cocks" in the middle of the pitch...)

  • by the way, "fat is the new black"... (and I like fat black cats (in hats))

  • If you do meet up for a drink please don't have s ex. Thanks.

  • We will - but only if you promise to stand in the wardrobe and cheer us on, like you did the last time. :0]

  • sorry- bad news- I'm afraid it wasn't me in your wardrobe (and if I had been I would be) and so that must have been someone else (a Spanish singer perhaps). Maybe you need to buy better cameras.

  • incidentally (and without commenting on the content) your friend there sounds a bit crazy- at one point she implies you are a "fuckwit stranger" (she doesn't hate you, she doesn't hate fuckwit strangers)- from my point of view you guys spent to much time on that one (but i do respect your choices...)

  • Hehe

    :0]

  • Actually, I think it might just a teensy weensy bit be ripping the crap out of political correctness as well.

  • @celticchefgirl

    Just a bit... ;)

  • 1.] The problem with Bernard Manning isn't with his act , but one of association, where the bigots from the right and the left have each misrepresented his act for something they like to think it must have been. Sure, he used racial epitaphs in his comedy, but I don't feel that made his act any more racist than Richard Pryor's or Chris Rock's act, for the same reason...

  • 2.] ... or that his audience were racist (which often comprised black people and Irish people, by the way), who by association again, have been misrepresented as BNP, NF and KKK members. Do you really think the good people of Manchester would laugh so wholeheartedly at cheap and unfunny nigger and paki jokes such as 'how many pakis can you get in a car?" Even racist people aren't that brain dead. Get real, huh.

  • 3.] You simply had to be there. If you had been you would surely understand why Bernard Manning and his act is held in such high regard amongst his peers. God Bless you, Bernard Manning. May you Rest in Peace.

  • may he burn in hell and his lard extinguish the fire, so it takes longer to sizzle and simmer and bubble and bleat and beg and cook him from his rectum to his lugholes.

  • Lots of pent up anger in you, isn't there? Ever thought of having a psychologist help you with that. I am out of my depth. Maybe being fat made you this angry?

  • I'm not fat. ha ha ha. I'm not angry. You are not dyslexic. You just misused a word, no big deal, except when some one like you barks on and on that they know something, that's the time to point out it doesn't seem you know what you are saying. How you can try and turn what i've wrritten into your suggestions I am a secret racist is funneeeee, I don't give a shit if you think I am because I'm not. Show us your face Ofuckerty.

  • Your photo looks 30 years old. You were fat then. Just how fat are you now?

You're a racist because you see yourself as a saviour to Black and Asian people. You actually believe that this is your role in the world - to save people you see as beneath yourself from a comedians act you never saw. Geez, you're really fucked up, fatty.

  • Tell me I'm a racist once more using the fact I said I hate bernard manning, and that therefore I am patronising black people, and that therefore you in your infinite wisdom with skills close to a super skilled detective know upon know know something about me and I will laugh for all eternity at you.

  • For me, bigots -be they left wing or right wing- are both sides of the same coin. Your words do little to disprove this to me. Sorry.

Can't you people just arrange one day to meet up somewhere and have a giant fist fight - and leave the rest of us who enjoy sophisticated comedy of any kind, be that Bernard Manning or Bernard Righton - alone to enjoy our "dirty pleasures"?

  • @HoraceOflaherty "For me, bigots -be they left wing or right wing- are both sides of the same coin."

I like that. It sums up my sentiments exactly. I am not for either extreme left or extreme right wing, but what I find most infuriating in today's society is all the left wing bigots pretend they are simply 'politically correct', and have an easy ride whilst bashing the obvious right wing targets. I want them all the be held accountable.

  • @DancinJim Cheers, Jim. The left and right are both reactionary buffoons who need to be scapegoating someone and are both equally destructive

  • @HoraceOflaherty ya centrists are best. always the middle road.

  • @phlarrdboi EHEHEHEEEE

  • @phlarrdboi Political labels only serve to separate the people. That being said, I do enjoy toast and jam.

  • I saw Bernard Manning several times. I want you to know his act was'nt what you think it was. Why is this important to me? Because Bernard Manning provided some of the best nights out I ever had. I have been to a lot of comedy festivals, and seen a lot of comedians, alternative and old style. Bernard was the best.

Back then, I was a poor misguided left wing lovey wanting to put the world to rights (just like you). I can assure you, if there was anything to be outraged about, I would have been.

  • So, it alludes to civilized now. Calling me fatty and telling me I must be racist because I said I didn't like the racist old man. Best night you ever had. Of course. I still don't value him one iota. I'm not a fucking lovey, nor am I right on, or liberal and deluded. Unless I tell you what I am like, you won't know, because saying I thought the white old snake eyed pig was a pig is my business, and trying to find things to judge me for because my view is opposed to yours is fucking funny to me

  • OK, I hear what you are saying. Thank you for your personal message explaining more expansively your view. I sent you one in return. I really struggle to communicate in these little boxes, as we all do. Racism is a complex subject that works on many layers, as does comedy. YouTube isn't really set up for this kind of debate, is it? If you have a spare moment, please take a look at 'Bernard Manning Mark Lamarr Interview' here in YouTube, see what you think.

All The Best to you, teamcrumb.

  • idiot, they don't just laugh at shit jokes, they laugh when they read a newspaper that has a story about some race related beating, because they love to hate.

  • "except he was a big fat racist"

You don't look that "svelt" yourself, fatty.

  • That may be true. Do you ever see yourself reflected in their behaviour at all? Their hate is directed at other races. Yours is directed at anyone who doesn't agree with you.

Left wing bigots and right wing bigots are equal and the same person.

  • no, mine is directed at you, right now, and it isn't hate, i don't hate fuckwit strangers, that word is reserved for serious things, i am enjoying rattling your ball bags is all . . .

  • No, you can't hate, can you. Not in your world. You are, after all, Mother Teresa. And the world needs you.

How about you look up the word "delusional" now, and study the meaning of that word instead.

  • Ha ha ha now you've gone from calling me fatty to being delusional about being Saintly. You can garner nothing of me other than I disagree with you, you are 29, that's 4 years younger than me, big fucking deal. What kind of world are you living in to think all women get upset being called old and fat? oh, yes, the same world that finds bernrd manning not a racist, or thinks that only the kkk give racists a bad name, as if they don't do it all by them selves.

  • "except he was a big fat racist"

Your words. Recognise them? For comedic effect I have merely turned them back on you. Rest assured, I don't normally use words in that way to describe people.

Owing to your own bigotry, in your case I made an exception. Wasn't that hurtful of me? And aren't you the victim? Forgive me.

    Nice try. Try again.

  • I want you to know that I haven't enjoyed any of this. You've got a pretty face and you're not fat. You're just a little misguided, that's all. Maybe you've just been reading the wrong newspapers, who knows. Whatever it is, it's nothing that a little red hot loving from someone like me couldn't put right, I am sure.

I am in Manchester. Fancy a beer tonight?

  • except he was a big fat racist. plus an 'epitaph' is a summising phrase on a gravestone.

  • "The problem with Bernard Manning isn't with his act , but one of association, where the bigots from the right and the left have each misrepresented his act for something they like to think it must have been"

You're a left wing bigot - equally as offensive as the right wing kind. Equally as misinformed and of equal low intellect.

I've got some news for you. Black people dislike being patronised by well-meaning turd-like non-entities such as yourself.

  • Bullshit. i'm not well meaning to not be a racist, as I have no racist views in my bones what so ever it takes no effort of well meaning to not be racist. I didn't say I won't tolerate jokes about race, I said bernard Manning wasn't joking when he was proud of his racist views. Not that Bernard Right On is funny because he takes the piss out of Manning, the joke is on political correctness. But don't tell me Bernard M said what he said to challenge political correctness. He was a racist.

  • Black and Asian people must feel very proud to have you fighting their corner. In your world, they need people like you, don't they.

I wonder - who is the real racist... dear, departed Bernard ... or you?

  • "I have no racist views in my bones what so ever"

I think you will find 'whatsoever' is one word.

Geez, and you being so good with grammar and all. Clumsy error, fatty.

  • Oh yeh, I forgot to reitterate you do not understand the meaning of the word epitaph, so here is some wiki just for you: An epitaph (from Greek: ἐπιτάφιος epi-taphios "at,over-tomb" — literally: "on the gravestone"[1]) is a short text honoring a deceased person, strictly speaking that inscribed on their tombstone or plaque, but also used figuratively. Some are specified by the dead person beforehand, others chosen by those responsible for the burial.

  • Yeah, I am dyslexic on some levels. I often misspell or misappropriate words.

Thanks for mocking my disability - but should I really expect anything else from a bigot?

  • Yeah and I'm Spartatcus. Joining the thousands of black O'Flaghertys that reside in the UK.

  • Hehe, love it.

All the Best to you ... whoever you are. Sorry for deleting and re-adding certain posts, I found it hard to get the balance of what I wanted to say right, that would respect both sides, (which I can see). But I think I am there now. Big respect to both Bernards from me... :0]

  • I'm glad most of you enjoy this double edged parody, however as you will see you can't please all the people all of the time-that means you Horace o' Flagherty thanks for your comments. I'm sure my black friends would be very interested in your previous comments regarding the West Indies.

  • What is your problem?

  • the 90s were such a great time for original comedy.

  • An amendment to your comment- John Thomson Is a recovering alcoholic with more than 2 years sobriety under his belt. I take offence to your narrow minded comments. Alcoholism is recognised as a disease by the world health organisation. Anyone suffering from this fatal addiction either gets clean or dies. Your misjudged inappropriate comments sadden me, the majority of people leave positive genuine comments on Youtube & DON'T use it as a soapbox for blinkered pontififcation. JT

  • Congrats re: staying off the sauce.

  • You probably shouldn't be so sensitive to internet weirdos y' know. Maybe he clicked on your name and saw the bit that says 'Self Loathing'...still, I enjoyed that Bill Bailey love song.

  • Ah. I actually meant to reply to hOggo's comment, but seem to mistakenly replied to yours. I didn't know what he meant, either.

  • Yes, I know who I am. But I was asking who YOU think I am.

  • Right. How illuminating.

  • People like me being...what exactly?

  • you couldn't post the part right at the end when coogan comes back on and tries to kiss bernard

  • CUBA!

  • this guy is funny as hell!!!

  • Comedy is comedy, whether it is racist or taking the piss out of racist's funny either way.

  • Its a satire of racist, sexist rubbish.

  • Are you completely dead in the brain?

  • Dead on. Brilliant.

  • The dogs bollocks

  • wow you aren't very intelligent, are you?

  • Truly?

  • once you get the video you can comment

  • whats there to get? british people are dull.

  • but you dont even know the person he is doing a parody of!

  • right on. peter kay, john thomson, jimmy carr, steve coogan, billy connolly, eddie izzard and more are all completely dull. wanker.

  • hehe it's funny you don't get it.

  • Righton, the legend. one my favourite-ever comedy characters

  • He used to get jeered off as soon as he said black man - so they decided to have the steve coogan introduction

  • Not seen this for years, thanks. Classic.

  • This isn't comedy. This is ART. Absolute PERFECTION.

  • you missed the bit at the end where he finally snaps

"get off me you fucking queer"

  • He closed his account because you would not stop sending message to his son! The police wouldn't do anything as you know. Be aware of ManchesterisCity, before you are a victim too.

  • LMFHO!!!!

  • really? fuck

  • that lightbulb one was a killer

  • whats black and annoyed ?

:- the reincarnation of BerNard Manning

  • this great seeing this - Virgin Radio had him as a guest on their Saturday morning show over a decade ago as if he was a real comedian

  • :) fantastic:)

  • LOVE IT!

  • This is not funny!

  • No it is!

  • Yes it is.

  • RIP Bernard u were my favourite comedian.

  • No worries, anybody that likes In Bed With Medinner deserves to have their questions answered if you ask me.

  • I like In Bed With MeDinner. Have you seen Millsy lately? He hasn't looked after himself...

  • Yeah, I was channel hopping and caught him do an In Bed With MeDinner esque bit on some Big Brother program. Few too many meat and potato pies me thinks.

  • It's on Steve Coogans Live n Lewd which comes as a bonus disc on Coogans The Man Who Thinks He's It.

  • ... and that's the one i've been leaving in Fopp even though its only a fiver cos i've already got "The Man Who Thinks He's It" doh! Cheers marquis, will pick it up tomorrow.

  • 'Rolly Polly' Radio 1 'Motor Mouth' DJ Chris Moyles talked about this on his show this morning, and I'm glad he did. As it's very funny. So, thank you John Thomson, thank you Kim and thanks Chris :)

  • John Thompson is great- good tip Moylesy, i'd forgotten about this skit. What DVD is this on again? I know it's halfway through a Coogan show... thanks for the upload BTW

    In Bed With Medinner.

  • piss funny

  • genius

  • aaah, the comedy genius that is John Thompson

  • hes a parody of all fat stinking racist northerners. and a bloody good one too :)

  • It's also a parody on all people who have got more chips on their shoulders than Walkers

  • Its supposed to be ironic, numbnuts. Bernard was the compere during Steve Coogan's live stand up shows in the early 90's, and it's still just as funny today as was back then

  • It's the same joke over and over again.

  • This guy is hilarious.

  • haha this is the guy from soccer am

  • His jokes are funny enough, but it's painful to watch a string of them, one after another, without any kind of segue.

  • The 'act' is just a parody of bernard manning, probably for a sketch show. I'd link a video of him but the only ones I can find have fucked sound.

  • That's the point. The old comedians that he's parodying used to tell one joke after another. We're laughing at them and their technique.

    This is absolute class.
