Old comment but, that doesn't seem too likely to just "happen" out of nowhere.
But, things do change sometimes! You gotta keep up with forums, docs, mans, etc
For instance, on wireless...FreeBSD now uses a "pseudo" interface for their wireless (wlan0) instead of the device name. So a person who upgraded would have incorrect rc.conf, loader.conf, etc
Their wireless would, of course, be broken!
I'm now using OpenBSD for laptop, I think its slightly better. But FreeBSD is good too!
could you explain these in depth....clear, pkg_add, reboot, rm, mv, su, mkdir, chmod, chown, sysinstall, edit, tar, dumb, resort cpio, make, setfib, more ifconfing. I am learning freeBSD myself it is nice to find someone that is working with the same operating system that i am interested in. Thanks a bunch....
Nice video, these are good basic commands to be familiar with. However, I think it is important to note that not a single one of these is unique to FreeBSD - these would also work on Linux, OpenSolaris, HP/UX, etc.
A more accurate title would be Unix/*nix commands.
hi JROCK20041 thanks for this video many video i have watch that shows how the install openbsd or netbsd but non of them install with interface open bsd or net bsd desnt sport x window interface
It doesn't suck, granted however it is quite difficult to use, I would start with something simple such as Ubuntu then work your way up to Gentoo then once you have used that for a while then you start using Freebsd.
Hey do you think its possible for me to uninstall Freebsd. Im a noob at this and I can't seem to even run a cd properly on this operating system. I just want to wipe it out and run my windows back again.
This is basically 'top', but only shows the load averages and a continuously updated ASCII graph of your overall system load. (not exceptionally helpful, but has it's uses)
# tail -500 /var/log/messages |grep -i fail
Pretty useful to finding system errors, brute force attacks, etc.
And congrats on the Mac! I've been thinking about getting one myself.
You know, with FreeBSD 5 my wireless worked perfectly, right out of the box.
Now, i can't even get it to work.
It's so broken, I gave up FreeBSD on my notebook.
wth is up with that? I tried _everything_ i could find online.
it's just broken.

Thank you so much, it is pretty much like Linux. If you have some info about packaging it will be very useful. Thanks.

Explanation of "uptime" 2:53PM up 594 days, 21:24, 2 users, load averages: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
2:53PM = the time on the server.
up 594 days, 21:24 = means that this box has been up for 594 days and 21 houers and 24 minutes.
load averages: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 = how many threads that are waiting for CPU time, 0.00 = last min, 0.00 = last 5min, 0.00 = last 15min.
I love people who make these videos ... its the easiest way to learn the basic stuff.
Thumbs up.

Great video. A couple other ones I like are:
# tload
This is basically 'top', but only shows the load averages and a continuously updated ASCII graph of your overall system load. (not exceptionally helpful, but has it's uses)
# tail -500 /var/log/messages |grep -i fail
Pretty useful to finding system errors, brute force attacks, etc.

Thank you, I use a mac and those were helpful for me as well.
I'd love to see more commands.

Thank you for the info. Maybe I will redo the video. I am still learning on video editing.

Just a minor pointer :)
Next time you should use a better camera or zoom. The commands were hardly readable...
