  • Um, nevermind. I see the question is answered on the next page....

  • Thanks Xanapus, for your helpful video. By coincidence, I'm needing a battery, too. Can you say where you bought your battery, that doesn't quite fit, so maybe I can avoid the same problem? Thanks.

  • @rje49 Someone who I talked to via my blog told me he bought his at

batteries . batterymart . com search for PDA-198LI.

That battery is too much for me and the battery I put in the DJ is already dead so I had to buy another one but since I couldn't afford that one I had to get one from eBay, I have no idea if it will even fit but it's all I can afford.

  • i got a dell dj 20 and i dont have the disk cuz i bought it used. do u know if i can get the software for it or where.i tried going to dell`s homepage and download the software but it doesnt work..help

  • @beastjay303 You don't need it anymore. Just plug it into your computer via the USB cable and Windows will automatically install the driver.

  • @Xanapus but the thing is that i have windows seven on my laptop and vista on my desktop.and i did some searching on the web and it turns out that u cant use it on anything but xp and 2000. is this true or can i find a way to use it in vista and widnows 7?

  • @beastjay303 Oh that sucks. I didn't know about that. I am still using Win XP so maybe you will have to partition your hard drive to be able to do it or buy a cheap used laptop with XP on it specifically for use with things that require XP.

  • @Xanapus ill do that. im also selling a psp if ur interested into that kind of stuff.

  • @beastjay303 Thanks but I have one. I've been using it as mp3 player until I can get a new battery for my Dell DJ.

  • @Xanapus this is comepletely up to u but i think it`d be a good idea to sell ur old mp3s(.my cousin did tis and it worked out well for him) and buy a pspgo and a 16gb micro memory card.that way ud have 32 gb`s of memory on ur psp and the sound quality is pretty great.well thanks for your time.good luck with ur dell dj...................cheers :D

  • Hi Xanapus, Great work! Can you tell me how long the new battery last for one re-charge? Is it comparable to the original one? Thanks!

  • @benbenben999 Actually that battery that you see in the video that I put in didn't take very long at all to charge. It was maybe half an hour and it lasts about 8-12 hours I think. However, my new battery doesn't even charge anymore at all so I need another new one. Someone told me that this battery will work and it will fit snugly into the DJ. search PDA-198LI at batterymart website. Sorry, it won't let me link.

I'm debating on buying that or just getting an ipod shuffle.

  • @Xanapus Actually I got another idea and working on it. The 20GB hdd is the primary consumer of battery juice in this device and I am going to change it into 8GB or 16GB slow CF card with a CF-to-IDE_ZIF adapter. The CF+adapter is only half the thickness of the original hdd so I suppose there will be room enough for fitting a 3500mAh Li-Po battery. How do you think?

  • @benbenben999 If it works go for it, it's your's to do it with lol. Hope it works and let me know if and how it works out.

  • hey twitchy i mean, sorry your hands were just twitching through out the whole thing. and also that is the ghetto way of doing stuff. i mean those wires sticking out ohh dont worry just a little water will prove the point. and duck tape all the time i guess. and you should change you title to how to change it the wrong way. all you need to do is use some muscle and put it in. but dont be surprised if someone accuses you of haveing a bomb

  • Wow, what a douche. I've never had anyone call me twitchy before. Try living your life with parkinsons and see what names people call you. Oh and while you're at it, try living on a disability income and see how much you can afford to fix things. And by the way, I'm careful with my electronics. That Dell DJ never goes anywhere near water and it's in a neoprene camera bag to keep it safe from even dust. Oh and lastly, I have taken it on a flight and I wasn't accused of being a terrorist.

  • I have and haven't been flagged thank you. Read my comment to Jocktech.

  • BRILLIANT, dude! thanks for posting this. i just got a dj a few months ago and have already noticed my battery not performing up to snuff. fixing this puppy is STILL 1/3 the price of an ipod, and i've enjoyed 3 computers from dell so i'm happy to give them my business.

  • I knew this video would help someone hehe.

  • To get a battery that fits you need to look for model LPCS244789. That is the original battery that came in the DJ20 when they were sold in stores.

  • Thanks, when I bought my battery I searched for that very number and couldn't find it anywhere. I've been doing great with this for the last 8 months so there's no reason to buy another one.

  • Hey, X, kev again! Guess what! My battery dosen't fit either!!! Cut what where?

post a video on that! Man, what's the deal?

  • I used a triangular file to cut a little triangle shaped hole in the side of the metal and the plastic where the wire would sit in the back.

  • yea, but does the battery fit inside like the one replaced? Also, now theres a whole on the side? Just wanna make sure I got U right? was thing of selling on e-bay. Talk to me...

  • No I couldn't fit it inside, I wasn't comfortable cutting the battery itself. I filed a triangle shape in the metal of the bottom piece that screws onto the bottom that you had to unscrew to open it. The battery itself is taped to the back of the Dell DJ. I have the DJ in a Neoprene camera bag.

  • Yeah if the battery won't fit then you probably aren't going to get much on ebay if you have to file the bottom and tape the battery like I did lol.

  • Do U know it there is a battery somewhere that fist?

  • Sorry I wish I knew who sold the actual battery that fits the Dell DJ. I got mine from ebay when I made this video, because I had already spent the money on it and I would've lost money trying to return it I figured I might as well keep it. I did continue my research but couldn't find it. Dell won't give that information out because they want you to give them $70 for the battery and to have them install it for you. I refuse to do that.

  • PERFECT!!!!

Thank U so much! It was killing me. Now I have to get the bottom back on...

    may be sell it.

  • So glad I was able to help lol.

  • Me too. Just ordered a battery for 10.00

but they charge 6 for shipping; aint that a blip. Any-who, good lookin'

    thanks

  • $16 is a very good price though considering Dell was going to charge me $70. Unfortunately my battery doesn't fit inside but it's fine taped to the outside as long as it plays. I filed the bottom (triangle file shape lol) so I could put the bottom back on. I was afraid I would lose the screws and I don't like the idea of it being open to the elements like that even though it's in the zippered neoprene bag.

  • Why not cut a slot in the outside edge of the bottom cover for the wires then you could refit it?

  • Oh I did after I made this video. I used a file to cut into the metal, the kind that is like a triangle so it's got a triangle sized hole for the wires. Then I cut the same slit in the plastic piece and screwed it together. I just never updated this video.

  • Thank you for that your video is the only one on youtube, for changeing the battery on the DELL DJ 20 , which is the same body as the 30, which i have. I got a battey from E-bay for 14 dollars + free shipping. its much smaller then your battery, so maybey you want to check them out.

    Thanks again.

    i give it AA+

  • Thanks. I'm going to end up having to buy a couple of spare batteries just in case mine stops working after awhile. Who is the seller you got your battery from?

By the way, at the end of my video I said to save those bottom pieces. I found a way to get them back on while my battery is taped to the back. I have a triangle shaped file that I used on the metal piece that screws in and the wires fit perfectly in there so the bottom is now closed.
