  • Maynard is the clear winner. Chris sounds like he's got an oversized Adams apple. Maybe if Chris drank some of Maynard's wine he'd sing better.

  • Maynard stands alone, in my opinion. Chris is gnarly, don't get me wrong; but Maynard is incontestable.

  • My favorite band is Tool. But, Chris takes this one... Maynard even admits to not being a great vocalist and honestly, he is above par at best. But his style and lyrics are glorious. Chris, is phenomenal .

  • Two different things. Why would they even be compared? Both of them are great

  • Definatly Chris Cornell. But MJK is pretty amazing also. Everyone should see the vid with Chris Cornell duet with MJK (During the period Cornell is with Audioslave)

  • Ummm... Maynard, no contest!

  • Maynard James Keenan FTW! Just listen to Pushit (Live) from Salival! His voice is fucking eargasmic!! a7a!!

  • Maynard!

  • May be a bit biased but I'd have to say Keenan. But I have just recently found out how much I love Cornell's vocals and it's close. Both are amazing vocalists, but I just prefer the feel of Maynard's vocals.

  • both are amazing but Cornell takes vocals , Maynard has him on lyrics imo , ive seen both live an there really is no contest who has the better voice , a much harder question would be who puts on a better show ? again a huge fan of both but TOOL sits a little higher up for me then Soundgarden ....

  • I love both as my top two artists to listen to... But is there a really a competition in vocal abilities?

Cornell takes it easily - he is a 6 octave wonder. Maynard is awesome, but on more levels than just his vocals... mostly the mystique.

  • I am a huge fan of both artists, both as vocalists and as lyricists, in the end, I cannot really make a choice. What really needs to happen, is a collaboration album and tour.

If nothing else, they could get together and soak Justin Beiber and Selena Gomez, mid-coitus, in diesel fuel, burn them alive, all set it to music for the video and win VMAs for centuries.

  • Maynard!

  • Cornell! even tho maynard is amazing

  • Nobody compares to MJK. He remains the best vocalist all-time imo

  • Maynard. End of.

  • Chris is awesome. he is grwat live and he has a great voice for hard rock, and a few different styles. so does maynard. he works with alot of artists aswell as apc and tool, like rage and alice in chains, etc. they both get around and are prettyt famous. they both have great voices and different styles. they are both unreplacable. and they are both awesome.

  • no mames pendejo como se te ocurre comparar a esa mamada con el rey de las voces mas vergas Mr chris cornell

  • @chupurrupu what?

  • Love both and have followed both for many many years. But technically speaking, Maynard is the better vocalist.

  • Chris has a very distinguishable and great rock voice. But Maynard is just a much better overall vocalist. He's one of the most well rounded and underated in music today. Add in his lyrics and emotions and you get 1 helluva lead singer.

  • Why would anyone even ask that question? MAYNARD, NO CONTEST.

  • MAYNARD....there is no one else out there with this beautiful voice..he is truly one of a kind

  • Maynard, way too easy.

  • range wise chis is way bigger, but i still prefer maynard for the spine tingling juice that is hidden in his voice.

  • Maynard has an original voice. Chris Cornell sounds like he is trying too much to sound like what the archetype "metal voice" is. That is Ronnie James Dio's sound, now give it back.

  • Problem with comparing the two is that they have completely different sounds and styles. Tool is a prog alternative metal band and Soundgarden/Audioslave/Temple of the Dog are all essentially rock bands. Cornell is probably one, if not the best, grunge rock vocalist of all time but Maynard is incredibly talented in how he uses his voice for his style, his genre.

  • Maynard has such depth & uniqueness but Cornell has an awesome voice.

    I'd say Maynard.

  • i'm a huge fan of both since way back in the day. maynard is a genius !, but as far as vocals go chris cornell derserves credit. anyone who disagrees is a partial fan who hasnt followed both artists.

  • This question makes no sense. Chris Cornell has a good voice, I enjoy that singing/screaming combo he does, but Maynard can both sing and scream better. Also, very poor selections to portray the uber-awesomeness that is Maynard.

  • this is like comparing God to a really high pitched bird. Maynard is the voice of our time he is our sound and we need to accept that he may not be main stream, but he's the best.

  • Cornell

  • maynard, but both of them are really really good *-*

  • love them both, but Cornell for sure!

  • I love MJK but im sorry Chris Cornell is top dog,

  • Maynard for sure

  • 1st!!... chris cornell is the best singer in rock period. All you have to do is listen to him say beyond the wheel on sg amazing reunion tour.
