From a Collingwood supporter - what a farcical decision all the way down the chain. I think between the two hearings the decisions were reached in less than 10 minutes total. If this was a Collingwood player getting done for THREE WEEKS?!? then Eddie would probably go to the courts. There are men in suits who are ruining this great game, from the umpiring and rule/"interpretation" changes, through to this soft bleating about protecting a players head. See Joel "Sell My Soul" Selwood for example.
What is this? This is blasphemy. I remember watching footage of Football players such as John Warsfold, tackling players twice as hard and gruesome as this in their day. Australian Football Rules is became a joke.. His two week suspension only emphasizes my point more..
that was a beautiful tackel im a crows supporter and this is why i love footy if u take tackels like that out the game..... the games already gone a shit load softer from what i remember in the 90's
these are the tackles (in other sports, rugby, american football etc) that break necks. I know many of you want AFL to stay "tough" but you have to understand the AFL doesnt want players with broken necks, becoming quadriplegics...
They arnt trying to ruin the game, they just want to make it safer.
I'm off to buy some blank t-shirts, fabric and poster paint tomorrow to make "Free Trengove" tops and signs for Saturdays match against the roos along with "RIP" and "Anti AFL" signs... all demon fans should do the same!!... not the trengove ones but "RIP Tackle" and "Stop Killing our game Anderson" ones should be held up by North supporters and supporters at all games this week!!
I can't believe this was even looked at let alone Jack being rubbed out for three weeks! Maybe I'll pull a Hunt Karmichael and become a supporter convert
@rcdanger 20 years ago? last week and next week that will be holding the ball... was a bad decision in the first place to offer him 2 weeks then because of all the backlash and twittering etc... the poor little babies in the AFL were proved wrong and they couldn't have that!!
just watched the tackle and interview on the Footy Show, adrian anderson you have just painted a target on your head for any football lover..Thank you for making this so called contact sport a less physical game than soccer or netball. your a moron.
Im a Carlton fan, and thats bullshit, it was a great tackle and he should be playing! Imagine if it was Jarrad Waite laying that tackle, with his record he would have got 10 weeks, it stinks!
4kurtismyman... Why dont you hold your dick? Cause thats about the only thing you can handle in your tackle. Last time i checked you are allowed in a tacke to grab 1 or 2 arms. Or are you a slimey maggot like adrian anderson and give me 1 of many interpritations. Stick to lawn bowls, DICKHEAD !
I was all for Trengove, but he purposely held on to Dangerfields arm then slung him. I'm he didn't mean to purposely hurt Dangerfield in such a serious way, but it was an inappropriate tackle, and I'm sorry but I think three weeks is quite acceptable.
@4Kurtismyman I think you don't know the rules of the game mate... listen to the crowd, Adelaide supporters arent going nuts the way supporters do when a player is put out unfairly, Melbourne supporters are yelling "BALL" because indeed he dropped the ball and it should have been a fair kick... I am sorry Dangerfield got injured but footy is..sorry was... a tough contact sport
can some1 put a tackle on that germ of society adrian anderson, the rules manufacturer, and then get him to explain under which interpritation it comes under ? The umpire on the day didnt even award a free and why ? Because these days 1 rule has 10 interpritations. No wonder the umpires are having a hard time of it. Andrian anderson, nothing more nothing less but a puppet for andrew demitriou. Go to go, as i feel a PLEASE EXPLAIN coming on from anderson. Go pies 2011
The AFL needs to harden the fuck up. The way it's going footy is going to end up as a pussy sport like soccer. We all love watching the hard bumps and tackles. It's what makes the game what it is.
It appears the AFL committee have never played the sport, there is nothing wrong with this tackle.
Why not ban Farren Ray for 3 matches for turning his body and hips just prior to colliding with Joel Selwood and KO him. Because it wasn't worthy, it was accidental and they were both trying to do their task at hand.
Similar: Nick Maxwell bump 2009, was perfectly legit and in the spirit of the game!
This is worth a report purely for the holding of the hand/arm. The tackle itself was great. 3 weeks - ridiculous. I think maximum 1 week but a fine or similar as early plea.
@emjayflowerdew I umpire in the SANFL this was a brilliant tackle that deserved a free kick to Melbourne for Dangerfields incorrect disposal of the ball
This is worth a report purely for the holding of the hand/arm. The tackle itself was great. 3 weeks - ridiculous. I think maximum 1 week but a fine or similar as early plea.
great and fair tackle jack, chin up. As for adrian anderson and the match review panel, they have their heads up their arses. They are ruining OUR GREAT GAME. magpiefross, go pies 2011
@digugs yeah your right, in netball or something NOT footy, in footy you are aloud to tackle and bump, clearly you like Dimetrio and Anderson want to see the death of AFL and the rise of a rubbish imitation touch game
@Bridgiedidge5 Tackling isnt within the rules of footy? I suppose bumping isnt either or 'speckie marks', you, anderson and dimetriou should go and watch netball if thats not too rough you
From now on all football players are to wear bubble wrap to protect themselves from other players, touch football rules only (no palms, just the index finger) no running is to be allowed because one might trip, the leather sherin has been changed to an environmentally anfriendly pleather foam ball as studies have shown the original can cause bruises, and the half time break has been doubled so that all players can recieve a manicure.
Can someone tell me why he didn't get charged with the second effort tackle a few seconds later. Don't see much difference other than the player got up... (richmond supporter)
@bennfrail Jack used this as evidence in his appeal, saying that the next tackle moments later showed that there was no harm done. Total nonsense. From all reports too, he was very impressive on the stand.
if anything it shouldnt have been anymore than 1 week, i do agree that locking someones arm in and THROWING them to the ground knowing that their head is the first thing that will hit the turf is dangerous, there are plenty of ways to tackle a player and lock their arm in without giving them concussion and we've seen this time and time again. but it wasnt intentional and 1 week, or even just a fine would've been sufficient
@cowofthemonth they screamed "ball" because Dangerfield dropped the ball, disposing of it incorrectly and it should have been a free kick to Melbourne
@MsCelestialDemon dropping the ball isn't against the rules, dropping it in a tackle after prior opportunity is though.
Danger was trying to drop it on his boot, but yeah he missed, if he'd had prior opp. it would have been holding the ball. The ump was right, a lot of people just love shouting "ballll" at the footy
@RenoAU maybe he was supposed to jump out of the way or ask politely for Dangerfield to give him the ball and then go and have a nice afternoon tea with Anderson and Dimetriou while waring tutus and singing "Why cant we be friends"
There's nothing wrong with what Dangerfield did, but he contributed to the force of the tackle by consciously choosing to ride a tackle on one leg. Trengove could not anticipate, and should not have to anticipate how a player will react to a tackle.
Very dangerous precedent. It seems they are looking to work backward from the consequences.
If you look at the point at which Trengove initiates the tackle, he's trying to bring him to ground, just like any other. When Dangerfield attempts to kick during the tackle he loses stability/ability to ride the tackle. It was for this reason that the 'bring down' was particularly strong.
MRP Ruled: "...negligent contact, high impact, high contact...." - Can someone show me where the high contact or the high impact was (he hit the ground hard, but that's not really the tackler's fault)....For that matter, maybe someone can show me the negligent contact too. It looks like a perfectly legitimate tackle.
I've seen some pretty bad decisions by the tribunal over the years, but this one is bloody ridiculous, should be thrown out, disgraceful. I don't follow the dees by the way.
What a load of shit. A perfectly legal tackle (granted with unfortunate consequences - but that's football), and the young fellow (with no prior report, I would think, given his age) gets 3 weeks. Meanwhile, a thug at St Kilda who attacks an injured player (in a far greater breach of any duty of care) gets 1 game. Imagine if Montagna had exacerbated the Carlton player's injury, and cut his career short??? How does the MRP expect to be taken seriously!!!!
@brosert young Jack has a clean as a whistle record, but even if he didnt and was the dirtiest most reported player in the AFL he should not have been reported, he should have rewarded with a free kick... RIP the tackle... whats next the hip and shoulder? The speckie? They truely are ruining our game!!
A 3 week ban for this tackle in an absolute fucking joke! The MRP and AFL need to wake up to themselves before they completely ruin the sport. Players will be scared to lay a good hard tackle now.
The decision made by the MRP is an absolute disgrace to the worlds greatest sport. I have been a passionate AFL supporter for my entire life and every year they add a new rule set to take the toughness out of our sport. these players know what theyre getting into from the beginning, and yes i completely agree with most of the contact rules, but sometime you have to remember that these are fully grown men and not ballerinas. Toughen up AFL.. or god help us we'll end us wearing full face helmets..
History is littered with bullshit tribunal decisions, none more so than this one. Here we have a really good, young footballer who has never been reported before and yet, gets more weeks than these gutless acts in 2011 from these fucking deranged weirdos:
• Jarrod Waite - 0 weeks for back-kicking Richmond player in the balls
• Campbell Brown - 2 weeks for elbowing Bulldogs player in the head, behind play
• Daniel Jackson - 1 week for elbowing North Melbourne player in the head, off the ball
@sirthediceman and of course in this same round, Montagna 1 game for attacking an injured Carlton player off the ball (who at the time appeared to be trying to come off the ground)
First the bump. Now the tackle. Soon, no contact will be allowed whatsoever (except in Grand Finals when the laws are relaxed because of the international TV coverage). This appalling decision to sanitise the game even more just gives me the shits. I cannot believe James McDonald (former Melbourne hack, and obviously bitter) is behind this bullshit decision to suspend such a skillful, completely fair, brilliant, young player.
It might have been worthy of getting points but 3 weeks is ridiculous.
They count that his head hit the ground as high and because it was a strong tackle as hard which is right under the ridiculous rules of the game.
Every player in the competition, almost, could have laid this tackle, that is how they are taught to tackle It happens about 100 times a game. Trengove was just unlucky that Dangerfield tried to kick it and lost his footing and wasn't able to brace the fall properly.
AFL.... Stupid Stupid Stupid Only having a cry over it because he hit his head on the grass, would have never been looked at if Dangerfield got up and jogged off AFL Committee is a joke.
It's a joke that this tackle is even reportable let alone worth a 3 week ban. After the Dees getting flogged by West Coast they go out and play fair, hard football and win by close to 100 points, you don't win games of football without hard tackling like this. Jack Trengrove has been banned for playing tough footy and showing that he has what it takes to come back from a bad loss. An absolute JOKE!!!
Patrick dangerfield is a big guy so Trengrove would have put a lot of strength into the tackle to try and take him down. Unfortunately Dangerfield sacrificed his footing to try and kick the ball which led to him crashing to the ground hard.
Very unhappy Demon supporter with the decision by the match review panel. Teams are told its passion that wins games. This is a tackle with passion. Yes is a hard tackle, but was there intent? No IMO. This is a 19yo man showing his team, coach and members that he was giving 110% to win the game. No half assed tackles which was a big disappointment against the eagles the week before.
He's been suspended for being to hard at it. Definitely stiff when you balance that up with how soft the Crows were on Sunday (Dangerfield prob the only exception)! Trengove laid the exact same style of tackle seconds later to Smith but Smith didn't hurt himself so no mention was made of it. Don't wanna see blokes get hurt but it is ridiculous to suspend a bloke for a tackle based purely on the injury sustained...
Totally worthy of a report. A legitimate tackle these days involves cradling the opposition player in one's strong yet gentle arms, and singing a tender lullaby while carefully lowering him onto some downy soft pillows. So the MRP believes, anyway.
Trengove:Hows that feel Paddy?
Dangerfield:What a stupid question dickhead you fucken knocked me out!
Umpire:HOLDING THE BALL!

Jack Trengove has been found guilty and has been suspended for three weeks.
