  • Bogus behavior. Fail. Leave Tom alone.

  • this made my day. suck on that, you fucking neocon!

  • From Kissenger to Friedman - seems like this "tribe" is determined to push for some global hell-on-earth. Haven't they been described by many to the be spawn of Satan?

  • You know you've lost the intellectual argument when...cue this video.

  • You are so very wrong. I believe that china is the leading producer of green house gases.

  • Should have thrown it harder at that Jew hater sellout. Maybe his rich wife can clean it for him from one of her malls.

  • It's terrible the way people no longer respect their masters.

  • Too bad they missed.

Just so you don't feel sorry for this dimwit, Thomas Friedman earns $60k per hour to speak in public. He can afford a new set of clothes and a shampoo.

  • I'd really love to see whatever alternative to Friedman's ideas you losers have prepared, if you're at all capable of critical thought.

  • @RioMadeira Are you serious? Friedman is an idiot. He's not an economist, and he has no background in anything relevant to the topics he writes about. I had to read The World is Flat in college (finance / information systems double major), and it consisted of nothing but platitudes/metaphors about technology/globalization giving equal opportunities to the whole world. He gives nothing but "common sense" justifications as evidence for his claims.

  • @BenkaiDebussy Therefore, we have to deal with him by throwing food in his face? I would argue that his educational background in Middle Eastern studies at least gives credibility to his writings on Israel. And I personally do think his stances on globalization and technology make a lot of sense, although he could stand to clarify his awareness of the nuances much better.

  • @RioMadeira His stance on globalization is wrong because he forgets the fact that most people on Earth don't have access to new technology. He talks with upper/upper-middle class people in various countries and assumes they represent the whole. In most of the world, economic mobility is VERY low; the chance of a poor person in India "making it big" is tiny. Championing a system where the rich profit off of the work of the poor (microfinance is a perfect example) is harmful.

  • @BenkaiDebussy So the goal from here on out should be to create that access, which you will see espoused by organizations such as Van Jones's Green for All. And if you think microfinance is harmful to the poor, you must not have read much from those who have used Grameen services.

  • @RioMadeira It *can* be beneficial. But for every person who succeeds in starting a business, there are more who fail (most people aren't able to hit even when starting a business). Because these people are poor, they are very often forced to take out another loan to pay off their microfinance debt, throwing them into perpetual debt and literally letting people in the West and wealthy lenders profit off of them.

This side isn't usually mentioned; rags to riches stories appeal to people more.

  • @BenkaiDebussy I'm aware that microfinance is no silver bullet and that further regulation may be in order, although I certainly don't endorse anything like the Bangladeshi government's moves to remove Muhammad Yunus. I still haven't heard a justification for pieing Friedman. If you have legitimate criticisms with his agenda, why not let him finish his speech and voice them in the Q&A?

  • @RioMadeira Oh, I never said pieing him was the right thing to do!

There's a reason he's rich. It's the same reason Ayn Rand's books became so popular (though the message is different); it tells a narrative that justifies most of what America/businesses do. He assumes all politicians/corporations have good intentions, even if he disagrees with what they do (and he rarely disagrees strongly). Assuming good will is one thing, but he's naive to the point of sheer stupidity.

  • @BenkaiDebussy Microfinance can be hugely beneficial to the poor (e.g. Grameen Bank, Acumen Fund).

  • @Shnufkin Yes, but for every person who is helped by it more end up unable to pay back their loans, forcing them into perpetual debt. The whole reason they need the money in the first place is that they couldn't afford to spend that much on their own, so if their business venture isn't successful it can ruin them financially. I had a feeling I would get some replies about that, because microfinance is generally promoted like it's an alternative to charity.

  • @BenkaiDebussy I don't agree. Microfinance institutions need to build trust among communities in order to flourish. Trust is not gained through exploitation. Plus, trapping poor people in debt is not profitable, for obvious reasons.

I also disagree that microfinance is a way for the rich to profit from the work of the poor. Acumen is a not-for-profit foundation, and many poor benefit from its projects (water-pumps, etc.)

Globalisation is bad, but doing nothing to alleviate its effects is worse

  • @RioMadeira He frequently says that technology, like smart phones, ipads, etc, is bringing the world together, making the world flatter (I read the book in college, ugh). What he ignores is, as far as the world is concerned, only a tiny percent of people can afford that technology. He'll interview the CEO of some start-up in India and act like that's representative of the whole country. In reality, most countries/individuals have not benefited from globalization. He's very ignorantly optimistic.

  • @BenkaiDebussy - that's been my impression plus he seems like someone just trying to sell a book.

  • I hope these two goofball protesters wake up to realize that this would not solve anything about the environmental crisis by pieing one of the most intelligent people who is now championing the cause of green technology

  • He deserves the gulag, but this will do for now

  • well, Freidman is a corporate whore, sucking up to the wealthest in our economy. He certainly deserves to have a pie in the face for promoting ideas that benefit the super wealthy murders at the expense of the middle class. I would also suggest that allowing him to speak may be helpful to illustrate the reason for throwing the pies, but the more the guerilla waits the more likely they would be prevented! BTW, the idea's of Friedman are old, tired, washed up and failed concepts..

  • You guys are all retards. One day you'll all have to get jobs and move out of mom and dads basement.

  • @lathamkg one day you'll learn how to communicate like an adult, not a cliche-ridden schoolkid

  • This guy is an idiot, anyone that fallows al gore or this guy should probably seek immediate mental help. Right does make bombs and bullets when need be, the leftist full of corruption and makes impossibly affordable health care plans and stimulus packages that send our economy back to the stone ages, any one who disagrees watch Glenn beck and learn something. o exuse me on the left I mean the progressive communists that claim to be left

  • wipe your hands on your pants, tommy, you gotta get em cleaned anyway. jeez

  • The Left throws pies.

The Right shoots bullets and makes bombs.

    'Nuff said.

  • He doesn't have the presence-of-mind to handle it gracefully, or cleverly, or with humor.

He is an artificial intellect with little real human stature, insight or, as we see here, humility,

    or even adaptability.

He stalks away like a spoiled kid when his little apple-cart is upset.

Friedman is all about appearance, with only an incredible simulation of actual substance.

Why does anyone give credence to such a little man of pinhole-vision?

  • they are American heros

  • There is a god!

  • Couldn't happen to a nicer guy...NOT!

  • Is this not against the law? Is this not an assault?

  • bwhahaha

  • aha that little elmer fudd fuckface got what he deserves, blahahahlol

  • lol

  • I had a laugh to at that line, "Those little lefty nancies would have been eating earth on Earth Day."

  • I would have chased those little pukes down and beat the shit out of them. Those little lefty nancies would have been eating earth on Earth Day.

  • you Care about tom friedman

  • EAT that......FRIED - MAN!

  • fighting wars you will, till you die

    you will die without winning

    you will die in vain

  • A nonsensical platitude.

  • Burn that war-monger JEW!

  • Well at least peope could listen to what he has to say before they go on with the silliness. This is not going to get the point across, it's just playing to the crowd. My opinion, anyway.

  • This warmongering Israel stooge deserves a truckload of pies. I was hoping he'd slip and bust his buns on the dribble on the floor. Screw him!

  • I thought that the warmonger was going to strip down naked, by taking his clothes off on the stage.

  • Too bad for you the pie throwers were little fairy boys. A twelve year old girl could thow better than that.

  • hahahaaaaaaaaaa.......

  • Millions lose there jobs, at least we can pie the idiot that supports it.

  • lol he was there for about ten seconds before he got pied

    fuckin owned

  • green is the new red white and blue oh my god i can't stop laughing

  • There's no upper lip behind Thomas Friedman's mustache... just another bizarre metaphor.

  • lmao at these college n00bs yay way to stick it to the man

  • Whadda ya think --- did Ninja Tom, the Enviro-hypocrite (...have you seen his crib? ... little wonder the NY Times is going bankrupt) soil himself when he ran screaming to the corner of the stage under the fusillade of pie?

  • seeing this total jagoff get pied tells me there must be a christian islamic god somewhere.

  • ye should be shot

  • Greenwash guerillas? more like unwashed hippies.

  • I'm with you on that one invirtuo, except maybe instead of a pie, we should use a hammer. Fucking hippies, socialist bastards.

  • i'm gonna do that to chomsky some day

  • well, it's brown. what would someone expect from lowclass idiots that only got into that school because their parents paid off the admissions dept?

  • awesome. i'm sure their grandchildren would love to hear how childish and hateful they were back in their teens. these kids should have been a blow job.

  • I don´t get it. I mean this Israeli issue. It is a state with a population of 6 million and an average GDP. Someone would say "Quite insignificant" in global terms. Yet it fills everyday our newspapers, magazines and TV! Every day the same! Israel, Palestine, Israel! There´s violations of human rights, environmental problems, people dieing of hunger etc. around the globe every day in huge numbers - no body cares. But when 2 Israelis or Palestinians die in a bomb attack - everybody knows it.

  • i hope that was a kosher pie...

  • That was pointless. I appreciate your sincerity greenwash guerillas, but I don't think that TF is the problem here. Plenty of other far more evil people to worry about than him. He actually has some good ideas in his new book in case you haven't read it.

  • haha. there is a difference between free market capitalism and genocide.

  • I STILL don't understand why people hate free market capitalism.

  • You might be interested in reading The Shock Doctrine by Noami Klein.

  • It seems like all it does is talk about how a system the author disagrees with was forced through a time of fear.

From what I've read it doesn't actually make arguments against the actual idea of free market capitalism.

  • America is a state-capitalist society like any other nation. It is not some Adam Smith utopia.

  • @JimmyeDallas I never said it was.

  • Why did those guys pie Tom Friedman? Was it something he was about to say? Can anybody explain to me?

  • i just come to see him today on CNN, he pretend to meet O'bama and become good " freinds" that were he said!

  • Thomas Friedman is a war monger. He believes in the murder of anyone opposed to the US or Israel. He uses his platform at the Times to espouse hatred . . which he attempts to disguise with his flowery metaphors and effeminate manner.

  • They didnt miss, they got that shit all over him. It was even green, a nice touch. Pretty juvenile and retarded, but seeing an asshole like friedman, a "respected" journalist and author who definitely does NOT have the best interest of the planet or the people at heart, being humiliated is funny. That fucking commie faggot deserved it and worse. The audience clapping to fill the uncomfortable silence while he nearly started bawling was funnier than the pies.

  • "Commie faggot"? Thomas Friedman is an enormous proponet of free market capitalism and globalization - that's why he's getting pied on Earth Day by "environmentalist" Leftists. Just because he writes for the New York Times doesn't make him a liberal or a "commie" as you put it. David Brooks and Bill Kristol both write opinion pieces for the Times and identify themselves as "right-wing pundits".

  • Friedman and kristol are neocons. Neoconservatisms roots are with the radical far left. Google "neoconservatism; a illustrated progression". He is not a proponent of free market capitalism or conservatism, he is a propagandist for globalism and one world government. He is a lieng communist cunt.

  • Just because an individual favors free markets doesn't make them a neocon; after all, Bill Clinton favored free markets - he signed the North American FREE TRADE Agreement. You're contradicting yourself: first you say friedman and kristol are neoconservatives, then you say Friedman is not a proponent of conservatism, then you call him a communist? Get real.

  • This video is the gift that keeps on giving.

I just wish they'd gotten a direct hit.

Tom Friedman is a charlatan. It's laughable that anyone gives what he says any credence at all. He basically gets on the bandwagon of whatever is fashionable at the time, whether it's invading Iraq or "green" technology.

One consistent strain, however, seems to be his support of greed (i.e. globalism). Now he's advocating importing foreign workers when US unemployment is at 8.1% and climbing.

  • Importing foreign workers is the same as importing foreign talent. Its indisputable that the Japanese are years ahead of the rest of the world in the high-tech industry (walk around Tokyo). Why not have them work and innovate for American companies, and in doing so, make US companies more wealthy. The more goods and services the US produces the higher the standard of living gets not only for the US, but also for the world. Globalism is a good thing. It allows industry to be more specialized.

  • Pick up an economics book and look at the concept of comparative advantage. When markets are exceedingly diverse, as they are with globalization, individuals and companies get to utilize their talents more efficiently by specializing in one product or service rather than producing goods and services that other companies in other countries can produce faster and better. Specialization leads to greater productivity, efficiency, and overall wealth. I get more, you get more, everyone wins.

  • These are very simple and elegant economic THEORIES based on a'lot of assumptions, which come unraveled when implemented in the context of greed (Wall Street) and national interests (see China).

  • The US has the largest immigration rate of any country in the world. Immigrants, including those from Japan, are obviously coming here for some reason. Simultaneously, the US has the largest economy in the world, so these immigrants are clearly doing something while they're here. You should really stop thinking like a crab walks - backwards. Globalization has already taken place on such an enormous scale its irreversible; after all, we may well be communicating to each other half way around

  • The Japanese are in no hurry to work in the US, as their standard of living is already comparable. What we get with visa programs and outsourcing is cheap labor, and no more "innovation" than we would get if Americans were manning those worker bee jobs.

The gains from trade, globalism between the US and 3rd world countries are not uniformly distributed to everyone involve.d They mainly go to the rich, and the populous of the 3rd world. The workers in the US get hosed.

  • the world. The world's "greed" and "national interests" are what are allowing us to communicate using YouTube and the Internet. The horror! True, trade gains are never uniformly distrubted; but no realistic person expects that. The US will never have equal trade gains on oil with OPEC nations because its their most abundant natural resource. We will, however, get more oil than we started with by exchanging it for something they lack but we produce naturally in abundance like wheat or corn.

  • Talk about credence...

You mention how "importing foreign workers" would hurt unemployment, when really there is no evidence whatsoever, and there never has been expect for emotional backlashes, to show that immigration hurts domestic employment.

Disagreement is acceptable, but you think that aggression, however mild, and oppression of opposing opinions are acceptable forms of protest? Surely not, there's no plausible argument to be made here.

  • So lame they missed...and the shoe guy missed Bush. File under "Murphy's Law", "only the good die young" and all of those other injustices.

  • This did not start now, it started with the plan to depopulate the land by terror and ethnic cleansing which the founding fathers of Israel had no shame in expressing explicitly. Find out if you do not know the words of Menachem Begin, speaking or rather gloating in triumph about Deir Yassin and the effect of TERROR on the Palestinians. It may be simplistic, but you cannot change the past.

  • No, it didn't start now. But you are being simplistic, so simplistic as to be revisionist. What do you think? There was a Palestinian nation and Jews came in killed them off or forced them off land, and renamed it Israel? Refugee problems are caused by war and conflict. Had the Arabs accepted the Partistion Plan, there wouldn't be a

Palestinian refugee problem today and both Palestine and Israel would be sovereign nations today and probably friendly.

Instead Arabs decided to wage war.

  • Palestine has never been a nation, it is a territory that was controlled by outside forces for 2000 years(Romans, Ottomans, Crusaders, Brits). The last time Palestine was a nation - before Israel

    - it was called Judah. It was a Jewish Nation. The logical solution for this dilema is to create a two homelands. One for Palestinians and one for Jews. The Arab League has come up with a plan to do just that. This is the path that should be followed.

  • Thanks for demonstrating that you are an obsessive lunatic.

  • You devote all your time stalking Hitchens in the virtual world and you call me obsessive. Good one.

  • I'm not the fag posting night and day about Israel on a Thomas Friedman video. Your crackpot theories have about as much validity as the ones Tommy cooks up after seeing an Indian on a motor scooter.

  • I didn't bring up the topic ya know. As long as people respond to me, I respond back. When you stop responding, I stop responding. That's not obsession, it's just dialogue.

Now go do a google search on Hitchens, maybe you missed something he said.

  • "As long as people respond to me, I respond back. When you stop responding, I stop responding."

Just like the monkey you are.

  • Hilarious.

  • "The Universe began in a super-dense, super-hot state 13.7 billion years ago and has been expanding and cooling ever since."

Makes one wonder what caused the Universe to "begin". Was it something or nothing? Something seems more logical to me. If something, then did it have purpose or no purpose? Purpose seems more logical to me. God is logical.

  • "Purpose seems more logical to me."

You pulled that out your ass because it makes you happy. The fact is that we don't know that universe isn't going through a cycle of big bang and big crunch that is has been doing forever.

    Who made god?

  • I believe the conventional wisdom in physics today is the Universe is expanding at an accelerating rate. The notion that gravity will eventually collapse the Universe is not in favor.

God is eternal. If time is only a function of this universe, then anything outside the Universe is not bound by time. Where there is no time, there is no before, present or after. For example, you can't say one second before God existed because there is no time.

  • "God is eternal."

What evidence do you have for this?

If God(which we have no evidence for) can be eternal why can't the universe be eternal?

You simply want special treatment for your god idea.

  • "why can't the universe be eternal?"

You yourself said the Universe began 13.7 years ago.

"What evidence do you have for this?"

I have no evidence. It just seems more logical to me that something created this Universe that we know started 13.7 billion years ago. And if something created it, then it seems more logical that this something had a purpose for doing so.

  • "You yourself said the Universe began 13.7 years ago."

Physcists tell us that time was created then so using words like before aren't really prudent. Then again they don't know what made it go bang or if anything came "before" in any sense.

"It just seems more logical to me that something created this Universe that we know started 13.7 billion years ago."

That isn't a proper use of the word logical. What you mean is it makes you feel better to think that.

  • "Physcists tell us that time was created then so using words like before aren't really prudent. Then again they don't know what made it go bang or if anything came "before" in any sense."

So we speculate. It's not a matter of it making me feel better. It's simply a philosophical question, did something create the Universe and if so what?

  • "So we speculate."

Speculation is fine but there is no evidence for a gods existence. Leaving your belief in said being, a result of your own bias.

  • "God is eternal."

What evidence do you have for this?"

We only know what is in this Universe. Before the Universe, before 13.7 bil. years ago we have no clue. Before 13.7 bil. years ago there was no matter, no energy, no space, even no time if time is just another element of this Universe. So if something exists before the Universe, before time, how can it ever have been created? For something to begin, there must be a time when it didn't exist. But Time itself doesn't exist.

  • Argument from ignorance.

  • Liberals do make the best fascists. The more radical they are, the less they believe in freedom of speech. Friedman was an invited guest and people are there to hear him speak.

And you people applaud these a-holes? Whatever happened to "I hate what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?

    Disgraceful.

By the way, were any of these Greenwash jackasses charged? Probably not.

  • Isn't "radical liberal" an oxymoron?

  • What like "heterosexual conservative"?

  • "Isn't "radical liberal" an oxymoron?"

I don't know about the oxy part, but they sure are morons.

  • Pulizter Winner Thomas Friedman has expressed views that rub you the wrong way. do you...

    1) Write an "Open Letter" in a periodical to express your counter-view

    2) Challenge him to a debate and try to defeat him. OR

    3) Act like a 12 year-old, hit him in the face with a pie, and risk prosecution.

If you chose "3", then, seriously, GROW UP!

  • To quote Tommy: Suck. On. This.

  • To quote myself: Grow. Up.

  • Blow. Me.

  • That's what happens to opportunists who have no ethical principles, only the U$S, yet surely invoke ethics and morals when their actions provoke an understandable human reaction. Then they complain about being "victims" of "violence".

  • Friedman has more ethics in his pinky than you have in your entire person.

  • The information I have about Friedman is enough to consider him as a Hypocrite, whereas you have no information to judge me, therefore you are prejudiced. I will add a bit expressing that those who are silent about the crimes of any State, be it the USA, China or Israel, lack any moral stature to speak about ethics. Unless those who judge consider the actions of, let's say, Rudolph Kastner, ethical. Then I believe we would be dealing with downright pathological criminals.

  • But I do know something about you, that you condone this behavior.

All you see is the crimes of the USA, China and Israel and nothing else which in and of itself is prejudice, that is your pathology.

But why bring China into this? When your true issue is with Israel, and the US as the enabler. As though adding China will dilute giving the impression that Israel is the target of your angst. I know you all too well to say you have ethical problems.

  • This behavior is a lot less condemnable than the behavior of most world "leaders". These three are just an example, that is evident: China invaded Tibet to "free" them, the USA has bombed the world, supported military dictatorships in South America in the name of "freedom" and "democracy", Israel has been murdering the native inhabitants of Palestine since the Nakbah when it was created up to this new massacre(a mere 200).

  • Complex issues you can only see as black and white. Plenty of Tibet videos on YT from a Chinese perpective, you should check them out. Ever hear of a Katyusha rocket? Do you find that condemnable too?

  • I find ethnic cleansing, deportations, terrorizing the population to make them flee and steal their land a condemnable way to found a country in the 20th(!) century, that should be rather of days long gone(supposedly); Tibetans are NOT Chinese; I've read a lot about China, even the little Red Book by chairman Mao, who has failed to impress me as nothing else than a moustachless Stalin.

  • Interesting that nearly 20% of Israeli citizens are Palestinian. Wonder why the homicidal Israelis haven't wiped them out yet?

How bout I come up a silly simplistic reason like you. Israel has been Jewish land for 1000's of years long before Palestinians. Arabs don't even want them to have even a smidgeon of real estate in the ME. So from day 1 they attacked Israel. Israel only wants peace, but the Palestinians teach their children to strap on bombs and blow up Israeli children.

  • Please inform yourself about the opinions of Ilian Pappe, Noam Chomski, Maxime Rodinson, Albert Einstein's warning to avoid the Nakhba- I doubt you could say he was "simplistic", or any of the people mentioned, all of Jewish, some of Israeli origin. The "peaceful" Israeli government is busy pepetrating the present massacre in Gazah, which is aimed at anhilating as many as possible. This I call Genocide, you may prefer some euphemism that sounds better, but as SHAMEFUL as the Shoah.

  • As though there aren't brilliant minds that believe in the State of Israel? Did you know there are Palestinian sympathizers for Israel.

Yes you are being simplistic. You see this latest engagement as simply Jews wanting to exterminate Palestinians. Purposely ignoring the fact Hamas has been shooting rockets into Israel on a near daily basis when they were suppose have a cease fire agreement. Does the fact Hamas lacks the sophisticated hardware to do damage negate their evil intent?

  • There are Palestinians who sell the cement for building the apartheid wall to Israel, that proves nothing. Comparing Hamas and the danger they pose to the danger one of the most powerful armies in the world with Waepons of Mass Destruction(BTW, Iraq was invaded for this, a BIG LIE)at their disposal poses to the whole region is then not simplistic. The world is witness to the lack of restraint this state with nuclear power shows with the indiscriminate massacre of civilians.

  • Hamas had been firing rockets into Israel day after day, with Israel warning them they would fight back. Finally Israel fires at Hamas military targets, and you blame Israel. Your ethics is lacking.

  • If someone tried to shoot me, would it be ethical to burn down his house with his family in it?

  • You have addressed not ONE of the objections about the state of Israel:i.e. the position of personalities such as Ilian Pappe, of whom you can say anything except simplistic or ignorant. As your position is very weak, you distract attention with other topics: THERE WERE palestinians in 1948, THEY WERE massacred, expelled and robbed of their belongings, the MILLIONS of jews murdered with the collaboration of the Jewish Agency served as a "motive" for the "ethical(!?)" creation of Israel.

  • I find condemnable also Russia for overrunning Chechnya, Sudan with Darfur, Turkey with the Armenians, etc. You go on worrying about the ethics of throwing a pie at this moralist.

  • It's nice to see a douchebag like Thomas Friedman--the man Edward S. Herman calls "the Geraldo Rivera of the New York Times"--damn near fall on his fat ass.

  • bobgee1999 eat a dick

  • Ooh, an internet tough guy!

  • Those guys threw them pies like little girls. LMAO

  • Friedman like all Zionists have only one agenda, i.e. to work on the behalf of the state of Israel, even if it means the destruction of their supposed native countries, in his case US. He was at the forefront of war mongering, calling for the invasion of Iraq and now he acts like he nothing has happened. He is dead wrong on many issues and his grasp of the fundamentals of global issues and economy leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Dumb, masturbatory tactics.

  • Neocons are revolting

  • I have to say that you could not have done a better job harming the cause of environmentalism. Here you have someone who is finally able to bridge the gap between the greens and the do-nothings, and you go and throw a fucking pie at him.

Moreover, he has rescinded his support for the war in Iraq.

  • justice is delicious!

  • Infantile. Do you really think you're advancing any line of debate? If you're so right why not challenge people instead of attacking them with confectionary goods? How exactly were Friedman's ideas or positions refuted by having a cream pie thrown in his face?

Childish stunts like this do enormous damage to the public image and therefore the message of the green movement.

I don't know how old you kids are but you'll look back at this and cringe with embarassment.

    Disgraceful.

  • I still want to know if the pie-throwers drive cars. If they do, then they are hypocrites. Automobiles epitomize the destruction not only of the environment, but also of cultures around the world that have been devastated by the petroleum extraction industry. For example, Iraq.

  • I am as disgusted as anyone about the Iraq War, but, on balance, I respect and like Friedman and I don't think he deserved this.

Judith Miller and Bill Kristol, for sure -- but not Friedman.

  • While I don't usually approve of tactics like this, I couldn't help but feel overwhelming joy at this. For years Friedman was a mouthpiece for the NeoCons and consistently advocated their destructive policies on Iraq and energy and economics. Now that he realized the whole NeoCon project is out of fashion he's presenting himself as the new Green Prophet to secure public appearances and book sales for the next phase. He must be exposed for what he is and not be allowed to steal others' hard work.

  • SUCK ON THAT Friedman : )

  • Tom Friedman is only out for himself. I can't believe people pay consideration to what this idiot says. He's a con man, plain and simple.

  • At least think before you type. You may disagree with the man (no matter how invalid your ridiculous claim is) but calling him an indiot just shows you've never read any of his books. Or for that matter, any books. Thomas Friedman knows more about Middle East relations than most diplomats. Don't just paint him as an "idiot" in such a sophomoric tone without backing up such a falsehood. Plain and simple, your words.

  • Tom Friedman is nothing but sophomoric. Yet despite his glibness and naivety, people feel he has the expertise to speak on topics ranging from globalism to green technology. More rediculous is the condascending advice he hurls from NYC at the Big 3 (it's all too tempting to suggest that he use his vast business knowledge to save his own stumbling employer, the New York Times).

  • Let consider his latest effort: "Reboot America." This guys doesn't know a transistor from a resistor.

  • Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.

So I wonder, these kids who pied Thomas Friedman, do any of them drive cars?

  • I don't think pie throwing really qualifies as 'violence', it's more of an embarrassment thing.

Not that I agree with the pie throwers.

  • Pie throwing is an attempt to use physical force to humiliate and demean someone in public. Therefore it is violence in the same sense that rape is violence. The rapist uses his penis as a weapon to degrade and humiliate his victim; the pie-thrower uses his pie.

The victim does not know the nature of the assault in advance. He doesn't know if the attacker is coming at him with a pie, a knife, a gun, etc. The attacker sends the message "I could have hurt you."

  • tom friedman is GAWD DUH.

  • Very Sad...not very professional...to those that 'pied' Thomas, grow up, you are no help.

  • I have heard this guy speak, and he is not very bright. Why not engage in public debate with him? Throwing pies persuades no one. What our economy is suffering now is the result of big government tyranny that he advocates. Instead of letting him speak let him debate say Ron Paul.

  • I like Freidman most of the time. Sure he was/is wrong about Iraq, but he's right about how America has to embrace new green power technologies. Still, Thomas didn't handle this incident very well.

  • you guys just made me feel bad for thomas friedman for the first time in my life thanks a lot

  • Thank you for marginalizing your group.

  • What's so wrong with making environmentalism mainstream? Is it a tool for an elite class of environmentalist hippies or can environmentalism be a shared concept of socialists and capitalists alike. This is why I have removed my support from some of the more radical environmentalist groups. They caus more trouble than good.

  • cause, not "caus"

    Pardon me.

  • How dare he have learned opinions and the will to speak his mind!

  • tom friedman is a zionist traitor

  • Once you suppress counter arguments with this "direct action", your cause is finished.

  • wow, you are children
