  • Hey great train and awesome horn!

  • ps. Was there action around this area during your American Civil War?

    Thanks and cheers!

  • The Curve was completed in February 1854, so yes, there would have been train traffic then.

  • I'm not American but I think I've seen some old footage of this place (maybe) The only difference in my minds eye is that there was a steam engine and not a diesel on display?

If I could I'd be there every week. Do you have to pay to visit this 'Horseshoe Curve'? It looks like paradise for train watchers.......

    Thanks for this footage :-)

    jager.....Cheers!

  • You're right, there originally was a steam engine on display, K4s 1361. It was replaced with the diesel in 1985 and restored to running condition until they discovered it would need a major overhaul. It currently is in pieces awaiting funds to complete a rebuild so it can run again.

The National Park Service took over maintaining the park in 1992 after it was renovated and started charging admission. $5US for one visit, or $25 for an annual pass if I recall correctly.

  • Many thanks for the detailed reply, very much appreciated...............

    jager, cheers!
