At the time this was made, not very many people connected Japan with people, just planes and bombs. So dehumanizing and "blowing every one of them off the earth" was commonplace. At the time this was made, not very many people connected Japan with people, just planes and bombs. So dehumanizing and "blowing every one of them off the earth" was commonplace. The hell that faced the soldiers, especially in close quarters, was that these enemy "yellow rats" were indeed human beings. Something similar happens today, when people yell on twitter that they want to spit on a Japanese person, kill them, etc. They wouldn't actually do it. It's just a lack of thought.

What i don't understand, is why do you have to kill thousands of civilians just to kill a few military men (Few compared with the citzens) . Even Admiral Yamamoto admitted he made a grave mistake in attacking America... after his return to Japan: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve!" That 'resolve' played out at Hiroshima and Nagasaki as a direct RESULT of the Pearl Harbor Attacks!
