Continueing......If you fail to do so you got 3 cases 1) going arround (thats expensive...additional fuel) ,2) brake really hard and have a delay waiting for the brakes to cool down (oh boy the boss doesnt like that), 3) thats the worse scenario...you go on a trip beyond the runway.... I guess you all like the "rough: landing now...
Heavy plane + short field ( LGZA:7310 feet or 2228m x45m) and displaced threshold...so...relatively hight approach speed...only papis assisting approach...what do we do? POSITIVE LANDING!!!! That means what people commonly call "rough" you have to convert kinetic energy ito dynamic to lose it so you can stop in time. That means you land it positively (hard) to pass the energy into the ground...then u brake like never before....

@gullygully69 take-off from skiathos for most airliners flying to international destinations are mass limited. High temp + relatively short runway. So a refuelling stop is needed. If u look at the schedules of airlines flying to skiathos at summer most include another destination within 1hour of flight from skiathos. For example Aero Lloyd used to fly Frankfurt-Skiathos-Kalamata-Frankfurt.
We're usually quite rough coming into Dionysios, especially over the sea, but it's usually landing back into Manchester that's worse because of all the cloud. But yeah, I don't think they meant to land that hard, but it is a short runway so better safe than sorry.
Hey kokolo00 Greek pilots are some of the best on world so as safest Greek airlines, but what do you know,i doubt if you ever had the money to travel in Greece.....You are Skopjan(Fake-donian) aren't you?So that explains...And please dont come to Greece if you ever can,we dont like poor gipsy Skopjan tourists anyway :)
yes the landing in zakynthos is very hard lol. its bcoz the runways in zakynthos are very small. i have been to zakynthos like 5 times. and im only 12 :)
Believe me, it's absolutely safe to do;) Recording with your mobile phone is a different matter. Ever heard of a plane crash caused by a digital camera? Look on youtube how many video's you can find with footage from inside a plane that land or takes off.
Clearly not many flyers amongst you chaps then! No "short field" landing can possibly have a "gentle" touchdown. It must be positive, followed by firm braking.
I'm going there in 7 days....can't wait now!!!. And yh, it is pretty rough landing there because of the surface... i go there every year and haven't realy had a sopft landing...but i suppose it depends on what airline model ure going with...i mean if it's a 737-800 (i went one the thomson one last year) then it's quite smooth..if it's a 757 which im goin on this yr..then it tends to be fairly rough :(
You obviously dont know anything about Greek Airlines, I'd like you to support the bad comment youve made defaming the airlines with some examples, because Last i remember, Olympic Airways has never had any problem EVER, Aegean has not, etc, The Greek pilots are some of the best out there, dont just type without thinking. Back your comment up.
@kokolo00 How come if they have the poorest safety record there has only been one major fatal crash in Greek airspace and the two main carriers Aegean and Olympic haven't written off an airliner at least within the last 15 years?
where did u get this intel mate? greek airlines still hold some of the best safety records worldwide, while most greek pilots are trained at US, and are rated very highly, you d better get some better informed on which airlines to choose next time.
@kokolo00 Stupid yank, I flew with Olympic Air, very new and clean aircrafts. Also all airlines in EU are safe, and no fatal accident has happened to greek airline during last 20 years.
@kokolo00 im sorry but this is pathetic. how can you brand greek airlines with the poorest safety?. iv been flying cyprus airways for 18 year and i would never go with another airline. also cyprus airways has never had a accident in all of its 66 years of service.
Definately no time to float for a greaser on short runways. You need to set it down firm, doing so even knocks some of the forward speed and momentum.
ya know, everyone keeps telling me how the rough landing I filmed out the window of a plane was not rough at all. This landing here appears to be pretty freaky. A bit scary, if you will. I fucking hate airplanes. I know they're safer than cars and all, but I truly fucking hate them.
the reason the pilots land rough in greece is because their runways are so short that they cant afford to go around again so they just get it down as quick as possible
zante airport is a visual approach airport the only clues the piolets have is a set of nlight to the left of the runway btelling them if they are to high or to low there is no autoland facilitys at this airport
What the hell is the worst fucking landing for you? Harder one like this? That's because the runways in Greece (especially on the islands) are usually very short. So there's not much time for a smooth landing, otherwise you could overrun the runway easily. And that would be fuckin' bad...
P.S. This airport is a VOR/DME approach which is often flown visually thanks to the often great visibility and weather in summer months. No autolands here!
The runway isn't the longest by any means at Zakynthos. Landing in the touchdown markers is a must so 'greasing' a landing rarely occurs here. I've been to Zakynthos several times and can confirm the runway isn't the smoothest surface. Quite bumpy infact. Nice video. I'm back there next month :).
Any landing that you walk away from is a good landing. People complaing about bumpy landings do my head in. You're alive, right? You're at the airport you paid to go to, right? So shut up.
Yeah, it's true, I'm stupid. And I put bad comments on videos for fun, it's true.
But the fact is, people are criticising that pilot for making a slightly bumpy landing, when *they couldn't do any better themselves*
And that sucks. Imagine people videoing whatever *you* do for a living, posting it on the internet, and commenting on every tiny little mistake you make.
i agree with felix, as long as you get to where you pay to go safely, there is no such thing as a bad landing unless you get injured or anyone else does or the aircraft sustains damage.
Pilots are highly trained and work extremely hard, and the numbers of pilots are decreasing in the world, saying its a bad landing is criticising someones hard work and for all of you who disagree, landing a plane is about 100 times harder than you think.
It depends if th epilot had the plane on "auto land". If this is the case, I've heard that the system can sometimes think "sod it" theres only half a foot to go, put her down. And there you have the hard landing.
Look at the engine at landing it looks line the fuel is falling out

there is no speckled deposits on video until touchdown this could indicate a fuel leak or debris from an exploding tyre
