In fairness, these ladies are quite slim, but it is quite refreshing to see a smidgen of curve to the arms and thighs. Also, unlike the models today, these ladies actually look like women (not like 15-year-old girls doing child labor), and look more like 5'8 or so, not 6'1. Superb....wish I could see this in colour.
what a collection! if only women would still dress with this type of grace and class. now everyone is in the same boring pair of jeans and look like tacky robots. we have nothing on the women of 50's - i would love to wear everything in this 59' collection!
la facon de marcher est tellement differente de celle d'aujourd' hui, j'adore ! Marie Helene, est aussi ma préféré. elle est magnifique. Chanel, elle, est splendide, rayonante, géniale !
Remove the gloves and hats from some of these outfits and they would sell like hotcakes today--apparently women have decided they'd like to dress like grownups again . . .
they really don't make clothes like that any more. the close they make today are trashy..nothing but trash. and the they got the nerve to try to sell it to you for an arm and a leg fuweeey!
What can be said of the world's greatest fashion designer? I often wonder what Chanel would think of what Karl Lagerfeld has done with her name and his designs? There was only one Chanel and it was when she alive and the designer of her line. Karl Lagerfeld is a genius but he can never be compared to Coco Chanel. His designs for the most part are costumes for the runway. Lagerfeld will never capture the true essence of Coco Chanel.
true! like in the spring/summer 2007 collection he messed around with tweed and made a blazer looking suit that looked awesome for a young person! CHANEL and Lagerfeld are both geniuses of their own time and i think that they are both excellent!
I must say that this kind of music, which would be a great accompaniment to a nice martini or two, is somewhat more pleasing than the grating, over-done, fast-paced music that sometimes goes with fashion shows these days.
I'm all for variety but sometimes too much is too much.
Really nice to see classic Chanel, the models walk was so staged ack then, however at 3.23 the model does a cheeky second turn on the catwalk, I think that must of been a start of a trend for models to be abit more adventurous on the catwalk heheh...however a beautiful piece of footage
love love love the video. Thanks for upload.

Chanel might have been the shrewdest entrepreneur but Balenciaga was the true genius.

When the women were Ladies...... I miss this era. So chic, so french, so feminine....
Some say that the french fashionis too classic but it is with a "je-ne-sais-quoi" which is so chic, so beautiful.

I love the women's look compared to today. I can relate to them way better than to the skinny women employed by the fashion industry :)

What I wouldn't give for a vintage Chanel. Classic. Elegant. Perfection. These vintage pieces could still hold up today.

it was more like dancing and the pace is quicker. today's runway pace is slower and has more of a stomp to it.

I don´t agree with you. Chanel designed for an age, Lagerfeld got to translate Chaner for today, a very different age.
