I also think that the powers to be have extended their powers here well beyond what they are allowed. I also think they know this, which is why they quickly drop any charges that call their tactics into question.
1: Stop everyone at the border, where everyone is entering the U.S.; agents have the power to require physical identification; and searches can be done with very little suspicion.

The Supreme Court allowed for "check points" with random stops so that they eliminated profiling and what they inadvertantly did was allow a replay of the Nazi check points where they ask "Papers Pleeeeze!" just as in WWII in Germany. I find it repulsive because it puts all the power of the people in a few hands of the police and they abuse that power far too often.
