logging is awesome and all, but those dang feller bunchers...there extremely efficient, but its not even fair, some may disagree or some may agree, but I prefer more traditional practices of logging..
@ItsColdUpNorthh its always bad when jobs are lost with higher productivity, I don't know what the answer is...when I started out we used handfallers and that in itself created more work for everyone involved.
I think The Cummins N14 is popular, A lot run the big cats 500-600hp C12's or whatever they are called now, I remember many guys used to run the 3406"s and still do
It's amazing how quick those machines can get the job done....back then.....LOL.....poor guys with chainsaws. Spent a lot of time in the Brazeau....back then...LOL Thanks, great vid!
I like that part of the country..ya its very fast now and thats a shame, much fewer jobs...when I first started in construction there were still handfallers making a living in the oilfield...not anymore...not even a line skidder, everything is a rush
Oh, for sure...I agree...used to employ a lot more people....but a dangerous job as well. The most amazing thing I last saw was a hydraulic drilling rig...think it was Lakota...in Sylvan Lake....2 men could run the whole rig?
Yes its true, Driller and the derrick man or motorman run the floor, no need for roughnecks to make connections now, but thr still seems to be 4 or five on a crew, mostly just acting as leasehand snow. W used some of Precisions SSL or "super single" rigs Hydraulic arm to place pipe and an iron roughneck to do the connection
This is Lydell, I started working for them in Oct 2011. Big outfit. They have over 200 peices of Iron.
