I have been just outlining the position of the tone bars with a sharpie on the bracket and then just using a high speed rotary grinder (like a moto-tool) to remove only the offending area. Leaves the bracket more structurally sound.
That's a question for the designers, but if it were to go above the tone bars, it would hit the plastic lid, so this is why it is between the tone bars. Thanks!

is there a reason why the bracket goes thru the tone bars and not above them?
