They also need to get rid of the EX-L and just make that the EX, Get rid of the Si and replace it with the Mugen R.

Did I not just watch the same thing as everyone else? The fastest Honda you could buy at that time in the UK was the S2000; the point the presenters were making was that you couldn't buy any faster Hondas in UK showrooms. I thought they made that pretty clear at the start and the end.
That's why they didn't compare two Mugen tuned Hondas, as that would be TWO fast Hondas you wouldn't have been able to buy in a UK showroom.

I'm a bit confused as why they're comparing an Civic to an S2K. One is a FF the other is an FR, one is tuned, the other is stock. Unless they're just showcasing the Mugen RR, but even then, it's still a pretty bad comparison.

I think this was driver related not car related. FWD cars are much easier to drive at the limit than RWD because the back end isn't stepping out as much

@juszap the s2000 from factory is pretty much at the limit already unless you go forced induction or itbs and even with itbs and a GREAT i mean GREAT tune you can net 300ish and this is with internals as well. the fact is the f20c or the 22c is the best it can be for a stock engine
@juszap not really,it's pushed to the limit of what a comapny will sell with a warranty.If this civic was at the limit for civics then there would be none faster than it,yet there are many faster than even the RR on a track.It comes down to compramise.Stiff ride for better handling,uncomfortable seats for a better holding power while cornering.Trust and believe that if honda wanted to they could sell stripped out,CF bodies turbocharged cars too,but they like to make cars that last.
if they did'nt like them to last then there would be hondas on the road with over a million miles on the odometer,nor would they have built them with tolerances tighter than what anyone else makes.
I wish TOP GEAR had more serious comparisons, like this, HOWEVER this result was hardly a surprise. If anything, it showed the S2000 to be better than the Mugen. S2000 is a regular road car, whilst the Mugen is clearly setup for the track. Mugen has more torque AND less weight and wasn't really that far in front.
@h1coupe - yes, point taken, however I think we have a misunderstanding here. I KNOW the Mugen is quicker! But quicker doesn't necessarily mean better. The s2000 offers best of both worlds. and YES, the 5th Gear test track (Bedford Autodrome) isn't very long. I think it would have been better to compare 2 different cars - these 2 aren't even in a similar class
@GovernmentGuy i agree with government guy you notice in the video he said the s2k had more body roll mugen most likely put some more aggressive springs on it a long with having more power, he did say on paper it would beat it but if we are looking to mugen to tune the cars then race them. lets get the mugen s2k vs the mugen civic RR it will prolly be just the opposite this is a aggressively tuned car vs. a lightly tuned car. it's not quite a good comparison. but overall the s2k is much better

comparing a highly tuned SI to the s2000 is dumb. an s2000 with the same amount of aftermarket parts will outperform the civic IF (and this is a big if) there is a competent driver.
Im not a fan of FWD cars but the SI is a decent performer for what it is. but it is also far easier to drive than the S2k. a built S2k with a real driver will kill any civic RR
@paintballjunkie65 But would you really call them a type-r. They had the B18C5 in them and they were not powerful as the the B18C-R engine. The Acura Integra was the only type-r to be available on the USDM, but it was no were as great as the JDM type-r. A true type-r is a JDM exclusive from honda. Ones from acura are half ass.

If you are referring to Autocrossing, yeah, Ive seen lots of competitive FWD, some were even fast, but a properly set up Miata always was better. Unless youre talking about commuting in the snow....then yes, Civic.

@balcer9 you couldnt be more wrong. talking about physics when you know nothing about physics obviously...FWD all of the weight is on the front and the front axles and tires take a severe beating... they have to do the steering, braking and hold the engines weight and creates MASSIVE understeer especially during TIGHT corners... RWD will always be the ganador in small tight corners..AWD it all depends on its power distribution between the front and back. subarus awd is different than audis awd.
@balcer9 I can't believe you just said that a 250bhp FWD car handles better than a 250bhp RWD car in tight corners. Forget about hp, that doesn't determine a car's handling characteristics. You're going to have to do major tuning to the suspension on a FWD to make it auto-cross worthy. Not hating on FWD, but they're at a disadvantage at acceleration, have much more understeer, and the weight distribution is uneven at most.
Look at Miatas, they even have their own class in SCCA.

@Nsxyy yeah but then you realize its American and then you take back what you said lol. b/c just because something is faster doesnt make it a better car, and yes the mustang is a good looking car but they are both in separate fields the civic has it's on field and of all the RWD sports cars i think (and so does jeremy clarkson) it's by far the best looking and the best car for the value.

but come to think of it, the civic is quite pushed to the limit(am talking about tuning here) compared to the S2000 which is completely stock. I think, if mugen will put the same amount of modification to the S2000 the result would be very different.

@juszap the s2000 from factory is pretty much at the limit already unless you go forced induction or itbs and even with itbs and a GREAT i mean GREAT tune you can net 300ish and this is with internals as well. the fact is the f20c or the 22c is the best it can be for a stock engine

@juszap not really,it's pushed to the limit of what a comapny will sell with a warranty.If this civic was at the limit for civics then there would be none faster than it,yet there are many faster than even the RR on a track.It comes down to compramise.Stiff ride for better handling,uncomfortable seats for a better holding power while cornering.Trust and believe that if honda wanted to they could sell stripped out,CF bodies turbocharged cars too,but they like to make cars that last.

I wish TOP GEAR had more serious comparisons, like this, HOWEVER this result was hardly a surprise. If anything, it showed the S2000 to be better than the Mugen. S2000 is a regular road car, whilst the Mugen is clearly setup for the track. Mugen has more torque AND less weight and wasn't really that far in front.

@h1coupe - yes, point taken, however I think we have a misunderstanding here. I KNOW the Mugen is quicker! But quicker doesn't necessarily mean better. The s2000 offers best of both worlds. and YES, the 5th Gear test track (Bedford Autodrome) isn't very long. I think it would have been better to compare 2 different cars - these 2 aren't even in a similar class

@GovernmentGuy i agree with government guy you notice in the video he said the s2k had more body roll mugen most likely put some more aggressive springs on it a long with having more power, he did say on paper it would beat it but if we are looking to mugen to tune the cars then race them. lets get the mugen s2k vs the mugen civic RR it will prolly be just the opposite this is a aggressively tuned car vs. a lightly tuned car. it's not quite a good comparison. but overall the s2k is much better

it's not just the mugen that has aggressive springs, the stock fd2r is stiffer than the s2k is and will out run the s2k on the track as well.

@welc13 yeah.... idk... I look at those cars in too diffrenct classes. I loved civics as dd... and rwd cars are awesome too but the fact that fwd cars were basically made for city driving makes me happier to whoop a v8 in it around a track.... Theres a curvy street in here in texas that people race on... I drop the hammer on tons of mustangs and a few domestics... beat a wrx but it was stock and my ej1 has some better coilovers and a tiny turbo

comparing a highly tuned SI to the s2000 is dumb. an s2000 with the same amount of aftermarket parts will outperform the civic IF (and this is a big if) there is a competent driver.
Im not a fan of FWD cars but the SI is a decent performer for what it is. but it is also far easier to drive than the S2k. a built S2k with a real driver will kill any civic RR

@paintballjunkie65 But would you really call them a type-r. They had the B18C5 in them and they were not powerful as the the B18C-R engine. The Acura Integra was the only type-r to be available on the USDM, but it was no were as great as the JDM type-r. A true type-r is a JDM exclusive from honda. Ones from acura are half ass.

Over here in the u.s. we are starving to death. If you drop a type r lip on your honda/acura in 2 days its gone. put red type r badges and a spoon wing on your hatch it disappears.dare swap a jdm motor in and drive to work if you ever find your car it will be stripped and burned to ashes.this wouldnt be happening if we werent bein starved of jdm goodies!!!

Proper FWD.....so whats that???? Because if you have the front wheels steering and braking and putting the power down youre at a disadvantage. If you are referring to Autocrossing, yeah, Ive seen lots of competitive FWD, some were even fast, but a properly set up Miata always was better. So whats this perfect situation where this mythicals perfect FWD car is better for, because for 99-99.5% of the time, the RWD is superior. Unless youre talking about commuting in the snow....then yes, Civic.

RWD fanboy......yup. thats me, because its proper. Only hairdressers like FWD, they are good for you and your husband, but I prefer a proper, rwd layout. Dont worry, when you hit puberty and your driving experience goes beyond gran turismo, youll see what Im on about. I dont hate to hear an engine rev....just not Hondas....they sound like a freaking toy...a cheap, chinese toy.

@fobroader, your knowledge about cars is just... surreal. That's it. Why FWD? Why not 4WD??? The thing is every kind of drive is good for something. On short track with tight corners proper 1400kg, 250hbp FWD car will be always faster than proper 1400kg, 250hbp RWD. It's physics. In some circumstances FWD might be even faster than 4WD. Sounds silly for ya, right? That's what I'm talking about, get some knowledge. Your preference is not a case here. BTW: I love RWD cars as well.

@balcer9 you couldnt be more wrong. talking about physics when you know nothing about physics obviously...FWD all of the weight is on the front and the front axles and tires take a severe beating... they have to do the steering, braking and hold the engines weight and creates MASSIVE understeer especially during TIGHT corners... RWD will always be the ganador in small tight corners..AWD it all depends on its power distribution between the front and back. subarus awd is different than audis awd.

@balcer9 I can't believe you just said that a 250bhp FWD car handles better than a 250bhp RWD car in tight corners. Forget about hp, that doesn't determine a car's handling characteristics. You're going to have to do major tuning to the suspension on a FWD to make it auto-cross worthy. Not hating on FWD, but they're at a disadvantage at acceleration, have much more understeer, and the weight distribution is uneven at most.
Look at Miatas, they even have their own class in SCCA.

Great, a riced out cheap ass CIvic versus a proper rear wheel drive S2000. Im not a huge fan of the S200 mainly because of the engine, I hate having to rev anything to 8k RPM to get enough power to pull away from a light, but against a Civic, common. Civic is for your little sister, your mom......not a race car, HAHAHAHA. You ricers are funny, go read a book, go to a drift event or a racetrack , youll see how your cheap little chick car front wheels drives to. FWD=FAIL!!! Dont care if its mugen.
