  • Both Hugh O'Brien and James Garner resembled photos of Earp, which is why they were both cast in the role at different times over the years. Garner played him in two movies and O'Brien occasionally played the part in the decades after the TV series ended in different other series venues and a TV-movie partly comprised of old clips.

  • Theme song: "Wyatt Earp, Wyatt Earp/Brave, courageous and bold/Long live his fame and long live his glory/And long may his story be toooolllllddddd . . . "

  • Hugh O'Brian went to military school during high school and learned to ride a horse while there. This helped him land the role of Wyatt Earp. Too bad military schools have kind of gone out of style. The way this country is going we could use them again.

  • No matter what the real life Earp was like, the TV show was great and gave kids a hero to look up to. He was brave, honest, and well mannered.

Shoot, those were tough times and the people became tough just to survive.

I did a stitch in the army and watched goofy city boys become hard, tough soldiers in about six months. When you live in the bush, dodge bullets and are constantly on edge to guard your life, you become tough as nails or you don't make it home alive.

    People adapt.

  • You are exactly right. As someone who watched the show in the 50's and is now enjoying watching it again I agree it was done for entertainment. It was not a documentary or history lesson. While most of the facts are basically true, like all movies and TV shows they are embellished to make the characters and the entire show more interesting to the audience. No one knows exactly what happened every day of his life.

  • to the commenters: you all must realize that this is mostly entertainment-the tv shows; they are not trying to make it all factual; just trying to put some excitement in the tv series--you guys just don't seem to get it---if it was all facts it would be boring--and too mush for tv--and no one back in the 1950's would have watched it

  • That whole beginning is nothing but a load of crap. Earp was just as bad as the men he killed. Sorry if he was your hero, but TV and real life aren't always the same. I've lived in Arizona all my life and have been to what's left of the OK Corral many times. He may have started out good, but by the time he got to Arizona he was just as crooked as the Clantons.

  • No, that's as one-sided as the old movies that showed him as flawless. The real Earp was a complex man who gambled, was violent etc. He was also totally fearless and had principles, according to a book written by another famed lawman, Bat Masterson.

  • My friend, you should do some research on Bat Masterson. He wasn't the man you think he was. The name "Bat" was short for "Battling". He did some boxing to earn money. He was also a gambler, but was not the gunfighter as shown on TV. he was shot in the pelvic region which caused him to limp the rest of his life. That was why he carried the cane. Until my first visit to Tombstone I thought Earp was a great man. It was there I found about about the real man. I then did my own reasearch.

  • so he slaughtered buffalo, which led to the demise of the First Nations ...peaceful, but hated buffalo

  • Classic!

    Thank you.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Sexy hairy chest

  • You must be a homosexual.

(I don't play word games. "Gay" doesn't describe what you are and it never did. Homosexual does.)

  • So?

  • So you're odd.

  • So what if he's odd, or homosexual for that matter? What's that to you?

  • Ummm I didn't see "Wyatt Earp," as the description claims.

  • Where are you looking? Who were you expecting? He's right there in front of you.

  • Thats not Wyatt Earp. Wyatt Earp died in 1929 at the age of 81. I'm pretty sure this young looking guy is not Wyatt Earp.

  • Of course that is not the real Wyatt Earp, as you said he died in 1929. This is the TV show that aired from 1955 to 1961.

  • yeah nor me..

"The first episode of Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp starring Wyatt Earp."

    Its nonsense :(

  • Read history. The Earp brothers enforced the peace-their peace. They were plain gangsters who wanted that area for themselves. I watched this as a little kid. What BS like most history can be re-written.

  • He tells his horse "Not too much now." What the horse actually hears is "GNU Gla Bree glee"

  • wyatt earp feature briefly in the excellent deadwood!

  • THIS GUY RULES

  • Cool, who is related to Wyatt Earp, whisper me I can ask my mom if I am related to you.

  • It is working now!

  • Hobyearp,,,there is something wrong with your link in your description. It took me to a blank page and I got an error message saying that page could not be found.

  • I think Kevin Costner portrait was probably closest to the real Wyatt Earp in personality. Cold, distrustful with few friends. The real Earp carried a gun on him into his 80's even after all his enemies had past on.

  • "passed on"

  • Hugh O'brien shouold be 84 now. He was a very nice man, I met him once at a benefit in Naples, Florida. Hid real name was Chuck (Tony)Clamper or Cramper. I would love to read his bio if anyone knows where I can find it.

  • His real name was Hugh Krampe he is 83 now and you can find his biography, resume and all kinds of info on him on his web site. Home: Hugh O'Brian on Google or Yahoo or AOL. Check it out I think you will like it.

  • Wyatt is a hero.

    And My Personal Idol.

  • The first episode, "Mr. Earp Becomes A Marshal", was telecast over ABC on September 6, 1955. The series lasted for six years...

  • The actor was Hugh OBrien not Wyatt Earp {who would have been 100 years old!

  • A true tv western classic.
