You r so dead on!! There is not a black owned store in my town, and the one that was here said the same thing you just said, peps coming in complaining that some other store has it cheaper. This video was great & right on point. As far as a comment that was made stating Koreans are not making money for their race is a flat out LIE! That is exactly what they are doing. They are taking their money right back to their impoverished families in Korea. Their children are well fed & eating a lot of rice which our"Black"dollar supplies. Let's not kid ourselves! They study us to rob us. We are making them rich! They do not put any of that money back into our communities. They owe us respect!
@silentweapon100 You're very fucking funny. "They're taking money right back to their impoverished families in Korea"? Are you fucking LIVING in 2011? Why don't you research Korea you idiot. The level of poverty in America is worse than Korea so I'm not sure why you're insinuating that so much money is being sent to Korea. Most of it stays in the country to support the family. Get your facts straight man. Please. Research before you speak. No one owes you respect. Certainly not for black hair.
Yeah, some go to the same church. Live in the same area. Know the other Korean families. But if you think that means Koreans stick together and work together in that way then ur mistaken. Koreans have a savage business ethics and would steal an idea from their best friend in a second. Cuz theres no "Korean connection". It's all about working hard to better the quality of life for the family- not the entire community. Focus on that and community shit will come together naturally. Then haters
Keep the black dollar in the black community? Look, business is business and if you can't face that fact then that means you should broaden your thoughts on what business is about. Business is about money- plain and simple. If there's no money there's no business. Who invented the first car? A white guy. But right now the Japanese are on top but you don't see Ford whining and crying. They know what they need to do is strategize and revamp their business model. Purely business. No bitching.
@roboedar Sounds like their is some hostility in your voice. You must be a non Afro American. Our ppl have supported you & your family for decades. So show a little respect. Many of your children are eating good because Mai Ling opened up a chinese food store in the hood. So don't get it twisted! You all NEED us to survive. So you might as well give honor where it is due. If we invest more in our own, back to the rice fields you would go. It's deeper than Ford & cars. You are LOST!
@silentweapon100 Your argument is so contradictory. I don't blame you, it's apparent that you lack education. First and foremost, "your people" have not supported my family at all. So an Asian person opens a beauty shop and now ALL Asians owe their very existence to blacks? Listen to yourself. Let me ask you, why don't say ALL AMERICANS owe their existence to blacks because you're the #1 consumer of chicken and watermelon? Or because over 50% of blacks work in fast food yet none own franchises?
@silentweapon100 Asians are relatively new to America. We have more recent historical woes than blacks. You were slaves? Look at Cambodia w/ genocide that occurred in the 80s. Korea fresh out of war and essential enslavement in the 50s. Vietnam fresh out of war in the 70s. Yet, we don't find time to complain about shit like this. We've done well for ourselves. Look at Korea's economy going from rock bottom to where it is now so fast. We know what it means to hustle and not sit back and whine.
@silentweapon100 Finally I'd like to add that black hair is not the only way koreans know how to make money. Black owned hair shop owners are a microscopic minority within the korean community. So, if all blacks boycott korean hair shops what will they do? They certainly wont bitch for hundreds of years and pass that bitching and whining gene on to their children. Theyll suck it up and find another way to come up cuz thats what the fuck we do. Blacks been here so long. Yet still don't get it...

Great video & I totally support your message of black unity. Its a damn shame that blck folk arent doing what these other races of people are doing in this country; especially considering how long our people have been here. Im always enlightened when I come across a fellow brotha or sista who's doing positive things for himself or herself and its encouraging to know that we all have the potential to be great within our own right. Lets lift one another up & make some moves. We can do it for sure
@MagicalOillusions This disturbed me so much that I made my FIRSt video (response) ever. People don't want to SEE or TALK about racism. They want you NOT to talk about it even when it slaps you in the face. I will always speak up against racism. Whomever the racism/hate/bigotry is directed to, whether is be white, black, brown, or yellow.
@MagicalOillusions This is awesome & I love it! You hit it right on. That is the point & we as a ppl need to really get this. EVERY race profits off of the Black dollar. We have made many rich. No other race supports ALL races like Afro Americans. We will give EVERYONE a chance & support them all, but in return we lack & get absolutely no respect. In Korea they train their ppl to devalue Blacks. They come here with hostility, no respect, & plain rudeness. It's time we wake up & LIVE RICH!
@silentweapon100 Haha, so I take it you've been in the Korean education system? Do you know what Korea does for African countries in terms of aid? Listen, we support the real blacks. Not the ones that live in America already and have a 300 year ancestry there, know the land and the language, yet still haven't done shit for themselves. Why not look up to successful blacks that have done well for themselves. See if they had time to whine and blame others for their lack of success.
we need asian input here. asians/asian nationalities are NOT united. asians do so well economically cuz of their DILIGENCE! u mentioned they have their kids working. that's right! whole families will work night and day for their entire lives to get ahead. that manager has a huge inventory cuz he fought the hardest! obama didn't make it to the elections cuz the black community got him there. he did it himself! been to chinatown? now THAT'S ghetto . . . and u can bet their kids r attending harvard
@kuankung8 don't assume everything stated in this so called 'documentary' is fact. just cuz the korean store-owner is reluctant to sell products that are produced by the particular company does not mean he is preserving the korean community. he's just trying to eliminate the sales of products that generate less profit.
if everyone just worked really hard they could stand together and be proud of their accomplishments as a race by the end. why waste time talking about the 'now?'
I don't think any race is "united." Eventually any people will get tired of paying too much for an inferior product/service. It would be good for you to work with other blacks on the supply issue; however, blacks, whites, latinos, asains will go outside of their community for lower prices/better services. Think about it, everybody hates Walmart b/c Walmart hurts small business. But Walmart is kicking motha luvin ass - people spend their money their.
If you want black people to "unite" and exclude another minorities fine. Then white people will "unite" and exclude blacks and stop affirmative action for schools and jobs, and oh by the way stop patronizing black businesses. Your thinking leads us backwards. The way forward is for EVERYONE to stop thinking about getting their group ahead and look at everyone as human beings. Again blacks are the people who benefit most worldwide from goodwill from other races, please stop the hypocrisy.
@shalom1948hellyeah Cole, you stupid. Not to mention very aive. EVERYONE is thinking and getting their group ahead, except Black people. Look at the numbers. It's not personal homie, it's BUSINESS.
@shalom1948hellyeah You are obviously a racist & not knowledgeable of the facts. Shalom..ok you're Jewish..whatever. Everyone else can unite! Why should it matter to you if Blacks talk about being united. We have supported EVERY race despite their heritage & ancestry. Your race unites & will not support another unless that person pours back into your community. Let another race attempt to open up a store in your community without consulting your counsel. Please NEVER! I lived in Bensonhurst!
@jamrock1ful You sound dumb. I have my own store & so does many others. We were the first & we showed you all how to do it. Everything you have is built on our blood, sweat, & tears. Bow down to your master. The tables have turned. You are talking to a strong group of ppl. Fix your face & straighten up your posture before you approach a queen!
As Black people we need not be so trusting. I heard the sista say that the Koreans came in as friends. We let them in, and they did the same thing as the white people did. Uued us as a tool. A tool to get ahead.I say by beautiful Sistas should drop the whole hair thing for 3 yrs. If you do. All the Asian hair care places will disapear just as fast as they sprang up.
the problem is BLACK PEOPLE blaming everything and everyone for there own lack of knowledge, leadership skills,NOT being able to save money and LACK OF LOYALTY TO THE FELLOW BLACK PERSON. PLEASE THINK about this carefully from a point of view outside of black persons perspective.
Thanks sister speak the truth work with Bobsa or get your beauty sopply shops in your area to pool there resourses and go to the black owned salons and barbershops ,churches etc.
Blacks and Asians need to work together to help black and asian communities... Because at the end of the day.... black people will always be stereotyped... and so does asians
No need to get personal - My comment was a response to blacks and Asians working together which is not likely especially as Asians couldn't care less about inter-community get-together.
Supporting your family by selling to the black community whilst at the same time having racist and contemptible opinions of them maybe legal but in my opinion is also immoral.
girl, i got what you sayin, but seriously enough with the 'our people' shit. Black america has to rid itself of its victim mentality and obsession with race, to fully overcome the past. It seems to me that most of America has moved on except the black community and the deep south.
Stop thinkin in terms of our people vs their people, koreans arent out there to steal black money, they're just makin money for themselves(not for the korean race). You blacks need to think in the same way.
I agree with but in the same token when black people run a business 90% of the time the business appeals to black people. Hair store, restaurants, convenience stores, hair salons; 9 times out of 10; if they're black owned they are geared toward black people...but if black people don't support them how will they succeed.
Sister TRESSES.. never worry about the CROWD OF LOSERS....They do not matter....They are such LOSERS THat THEY CAN'T TELL when their WINNING...They give u every reason why BLKS can't win...
THESE ARE THE LOSERS WHO WERE RAISED BY THE NEGRO LOSERS WHO SAID WE will "NEVER" have a PRESIDENT with "BLACK BLOOD"..and they gave us 1000 reasons....
THEY HAVE NO IDEALS...ONLY NEGATIVITY...LET THEM DIE AS LOSERS..
@TremendousTresses therein lies the problem. "black people run a business and 90% of the time the business appeals to blacks." Creating a business that only appeals to ONE ethnic demographic is limiting the opportunity for creating a large customer base. True, with black hair or alike its obviously specifically targeting blacks, but there is a problem if 90% of black businesses cater to blacks only.
Catering to all people is more profitable compared to catering to only 12% of the population
@hhead19 Your not even making sense on what your saying just go to any topic concerning black folks and see how many racist comments people have toward blacks your living in a cave that's the problem with this generation lack of knowledge of self.
@hhead19 U r completely MISSING THE POINT! She replied 2 the video in order 2 make a point. We need 2 eep our money in our community as much as possible. Doing so, we will empower ourselves and we can determine our own destiny. THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF A VICTIM MENTALITY, THIS IS A SELF-EMPOWERMENT MENTALITY. VICTIMS ARE POWERLESS. U should be ashamed of yourself. How dare you say enough with the "our ppl" shit......You have the mentality of a victim, yet you don't understand why. That's sad :(
@hhead19 I see what you are saying but the fact is black people have not healed/ "moved on" from the 500 years of slavery, hatred and bondage that is still occurring in many of our communities. It is about unity. We put each other down and I have seen it with my own eyes.
@TheCameroonianGirl15 what does slavery have to do with someone trying to save three dollars; reason why these koreans are selling at cheap price is because manufatured overseas.. thats why its so cheap.. thats why women buy in their stores..
koreans are ALL about business. Im afraid they got this weave industry sowed up, same with the nails/dry cleaners/liquor stores. You ever notice almost every korean you meet goes to church? thats where they network within the community. Church for koreans is just as much about business, as it is for religion. Black people need to be more business-oriented and help build each other and not just care about themselves.
You couldn't be more wrong, Every human being wants money or what they can't have and not necessarily koreans. You with this comment make them look so beastly and your so wrong, half of Korea which is known as north Korea is Atheist and some hide their religion but they aren't aloud thats beyond the point. Just don't talk in a manner where your mentioning every Korean or a whole race thats Ignorant
Right on sister, economics 101...they got the hook-up on mass supply and large orders. Even if the price is more at first it will come down. Can't tell our people that though, they won't listen.
Well said and I personally go out of my way to patronize black businesses and I do hope that with your video others are inspired others to do the same for no one can make the Black community successful if we are unwilling to do our parts as consumers.
yes finally I believe you got the point but I don't think the people commenting on the documentary got it and I don't think Aron Ranen got it either. Unfortunately even some of the people who spoke in the video didn't get it. We need to admonish ourselves and in the case of the blacklisting maybe a boycott is in order but the point is not Black vs. Korean it's Wake up Black People let's work together
I agree with your commentary. But no matter how many times this is preached by us to us, WE DONT GET IT! I would also like to add that money and setting up a distribution network is a major reason for us not controlling this industry. It's just strange to me that these foreigners can come over and set-up shop with no problem. And the thing is they HATE America. They are only over here to TAKE. We can not ignore the systemic prejudices that was intended to keep us from excelling as well.
I soooo agree. I do not base anything off of a dollar. The same thing happens with food. Cheap food can affect your health. Why by cheap haircare and skincare products, it will do you know good for great skin and great hair and we wonder why some of us have no hair and it's coming out around the edges. Let do some to do better with our state of mind. And that is "quality living" period, not cheap living.
times are tough if the prices are cheaper down the street and it just so happend to be a korean store than so be it. Business is business its called a competitive market... bring them prices down print some coupons or what ever.
I will support black owned establishments but im not going to break the bank doing it. Sorry
@ kinkiesweet You see its that type of apathy that continues to add to the problem. If you don't see why its important that the black community controls its dollars...just look around your neighborhood.
I wish Black people were more supportive of Black businesses though. I live in a town where it's only 12% Black, and practically all the Black businesses failed. I really wouldn't be gravitating to those Korean stores in the first place because the Black products aren't worth anything! They contain chemicals and persevatives that are damaging to the hair and body. The best products for our hair are naturally based and made by people of color. Ask around and search online for these products.
in london england and every store in owend and run buy asians and we black people have helped to build there empire... I have dreadlocks thank god and refuse to support anyone who does not look like ME...... KEEP UP TO THE GOOD WORK AND GO SEEK OUT THE OTHER STORES AND GET YOUR GROUP THING GOING ON!!!!!!
Self knowledge precedes unity. We must first cast the "lye" off our heads, reconnect with our true glory to receive the divine guidance that unites all things. Puting poison on your head is not haircare. Exalting the image of another man above your head is called "slavery". Your crown (hair) is by divine order, your connection to infinite power, your higher self. Rise up, cast the slave master off your head and wear your crown. Then you won't have to spend so much money at the asian store.
This is the truth. if we the Hair dressers would teach our clients how to take care of our crowns we want need as much weave. Yet if the clients would shop with the hair salons that are rendering good quality services the people would know how to take better pride with there crowns.
@atoneness To me it is so pitiable that there are women who bleach their hair, dye it, permanent it, straighten it, weave it, cover it and wig it... be natural! Glory in your SELF! I lost my formerly beautiful hair due to radiation, I now have a tiny mohawk(it's permanent!) and I go natural. I embrace the moment I'm living in, and my life is far richer for it. I'm a human being, not a dress up doll.
You don't understand what I am saying. Black women have there own unique beautiful features just like every other race. The hate for there own hair has caused them to buy products that aren't good for them. It's not a matter of we should buy from Blacks and not Asians (Koreans). It's you shouldn't be doing that to your hair PERIOD. You're the reason for your OWN problems STOP blaming other people. Like I said do not think from a 'black person's perspective' just for one minute.
Another thing. It was not always popular to wear weave, relaxers, use mineral oil based products, and protoleum based products. and that is mostly what is being sold in both black and korean owned stores.I think it would be proactive on the part of black beauty supply owners to sell higher quality products. Things I can never find in korean stores.Like shea butter, vegetable glicerine, essential oils, natural shampoos and conditioners.Things that acctually help black hair grow. not cover it up.
How is this the black consumers fault? we work very hard for our money and just like all races we want the best bargin.I see lots of korens grocery stores but i still see many koreans in walmart and target and many white owned establishments.I think that the koreans have the weave and wig bussiness sewn up. what black beauty supply owners need to do is cater to another demographic(the natural hair community perhaps) or sell their products cheaper.
Why are people not seeing it? The answer to the black hair industry crisis is right in front your eyes... well it's above them but use your brain. I'm going support these Korean stores(non racist ones) morally as long as they can out compete everyone. If all these black own business game together in IDEOLOGY they could wipe out the Korean stores in 5 years max(if the wished so).
no they couldnt. wishful thinking is for the losers.
rational thinking is for the indifferent. between the two of us, i think our roles are clear.
now as the rational side, i can tell you with 80% dominance, black joining isnt going to do a thing. the manufacturing is controlled by the Koreans as well, not just the distribution.
even if you join the few black manufactures with the few black owned stores, they will never have prices as low.
industry is lost to blacks. save gov interference.
Tell me angryanman, what happen if the culture of black hair changed so rapidly and drastic, would the Koreans still be able to control manufacturing?
Actully it could be very easy, so simple and it grows everywhere. It just take a new view about beauty. It's so simple that it's a shame these black down companies cant figure it out, but maybe that's due to them also having blinders over they eyes.
@angryaznman If black people had discipline ,game plan and vision they wouldn't have a problem but when you have a mentality of getting over and crabs in a barrel then a dollar here and a dollar getting over takes precidents over controll of a industry.
which can be perceived negatively but you will also not be judged 'this way'. I am not trying to argue anyones side, just trying to explain the thinking of many other nationalities out there ;)
Still, good luck with your business, you know your customers may prefer you because you are all American, and you have great experience with African American Hair Types, that is your advantage.
The thing is that the Koreans, and Japanese etc., think in terms of nationality instead of ethnicity. Youre not gonna see all Asians unite, or all Europeans if you will...they rather look out for their own country.
And here is what African Americans are not - a country. To everyone out there you will be viewed as American, people will not even pay regards to the way you look...
Congratulations Tremendous Tresses - I agree with your viewpoint but have a suggestion for you:-
Will you contact other beauty supply store owners and be the one to seek to collaborate with them? You mentioned Asian proprietors doing this, ie: working together, buying together to achieve BIG discounts/savings per item. I'd love to see you and others like you taking the plunge and being the one to seek this co-operative strategy with your black peers. Go for it girlfriend
sis, I agree with your comments. I too, once upon a time own a beauty supply and I worked my but off. One thing that you do is be the best you can be and people will notice that, and especially God!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND IT WILL PAY OFF IN THE LONG RUN.
I refuse to go to the Korean stores. In my community, I don't know of any black-owned beauty supply stores though. I get my stuff from Sally's (where I see black workers) or Wal-Mart. I am willing to buy from my own if I knew where to go.
coriegmann, your ignorant ass, instead of taking cheap shots, come with something better. How are you callin someone else racist when your making a racist comment, IDIOT ASS CORNBALL!!!
I agree with you 100 % , I tell these dumb black people that on youtube all the time, they always putting there own people down and its sad, because the slave masters are laughing in there grave now.
That is a very valid point. The Problem is that there are some things we can control and some which we cannot. We only influence the things that we can control. We can control our own feelings, choices, and decisions. We cannot control anyone elses. The very sad truth is that separation does exist and its not going to change over night. But we can make a difference simply by CHOOSING. Choose to be happy not sad. Choose to help not hurt. Choose to be a part of a solution, not the problem.
the problem is BLACK PEOPLE blaming everything and everyone for there own lack of knowledge, leadership skills,NOT being able to save money and LACK OF LOYALTY TO THE FELLOW BLACK PERSON. PLEASE THINK about this carefully from a point of view outside of black persons perspective.
@nohustlenoprogress Firstly, you need to remain in school, or return, your grammar and spelling are atrociously poor quality. secondly, I do not have any idea where you get YOUR misplaced ideas, but I do not think from a 'black person's perspective'. Your reading comprehension is as low as the quality of your writing!
Shame on you, as well, for not understanding the subject that you are writing about.
Good job!

the koreans were being racist....and unfair, black people need to educate them selfs on other races expoliting them for their hard earned money.
because if it wasn't about race....why arent there that many black owned beauty supply stores...? lets be real here.....
now another message is for black people to work together....

we need asian input here. asians/asian nationalities are NOT united. asians do so well economically cuz of their DILIGENCE! u mentioned they have their kids working. that's right! whole families will work night and day for their entire lives to get ahead. that manager has a huge inventory cuz he fought the hardest! obama didn't make it to the elections cuz the black community got him there. he did it himself! been to chinatown? now THAT'S ghetto . . . and u can bet their kids r attending harvard
kuankung8 1 year ago
@kuankung8 don't assume everything stated in this so called 'documentary' is fact. just cuz the korean store-owner is reluctant to sell products that are produced by the particular company does not mean he is preserving the korean community. he's just trying to eliminate the sales of products that generate less profit.
if everyone just worked really hard they could stand together and be proud of their accomplishments as a race by the end. why waste time talking about the 'now?'
kuankung8 1 year ago

lookatyvonne 1 year ago
I don't think any race is "united." Eventually any people will get tired of paying too much for an inferior product/service. It would be good for you to work with other blacks on the supply issue; however, blacks, whites, latinos, asains will go outside of their community for lower prices/better services. Think about it, everybody hates Walmart b/c Walmart hurts small business. But Walmart is kicking motha luvin ass - people spend their money their.
marrerogecko 1 year ago
If you want black people to "unite" and exclude another minorities fine. Then white people will "unite" and exclude blacks and stop affirmative action for schools and jobs, and oh by the way stop patronizing black businesses. Your thinking leads us backwards. The way forward is for EVERYONE to stop thinking about getting their group ahead and look at everyone as human beings. Again blacks are the people who benefit most worldwide from goodwill from other races, please stop the hypocrisy.

No need to get personal - My comment was a response to blacks and Asians working together which is not likely especially as Asians couldn't care less about inter-community get-together.
Supporting your family by selling to the black community whilst at the same time having racist and contemptible opinions of them maybe legal but in my opinion is also immoral.
edemorama 1 year ago
girl, i got what you sayin, but seriously enough with the 'our people' shit.
You blacks need to think in the same way.
hhead19 2 years ago
I agree with but in the same token when black people run a business 90% of the time the business appeals to black people. Hair store, restaurants, convenience stores, hair salons; 9 times out of 10; if they're black owned they are geared toward black people...but if black people don't support them how will they succeed.

4eversoldier 1 year ago
@TremendousTresses therein lies the problem. "black people run a business and 90% of the time the business appeals to blacks." Creating a business that only appeals to ONE ethnic demographic is limiting the opportunity for creating a large customer base. True, with black hair or alike its obviously specifically targeting blacks, but there is a problem if 90% of black businesses cater to blacks only.
Catering to all people is more profitable compared to catering to only 12% of the population

@hhead19 I see what you are saying but the fact is black people have not healed/ "moved on" from the 500 years of slavery, hatred and bondage that is still occurring in many of our communities. It is about unity. We put each other down and I have seen it with my own eyes.

koreans are ALL about business.

How is spending a dollar more at a black owned store "breaking the bank"?
SharkoftheDiaspora 2 years ago 7
times are tough if the prices are cheaper down the street and it just so happend to be a korean store than so be it. Business is business its called a competitive market... bring them prices down print some coupons or what ever.
I will support black owned establishments but im not going to break the bank doing it. Sorry

Ask around and search online for these products.

thebest1963 2 years ago
Self knowledge precedes unity. We must first cast the "lye" off our heads, reconnect with our true glory to receive the divine guidance that unites all things. Puting poison on your head is not haircare. Exalting the image of another man above your head is called "slavery". Your crown (hair) is by divine order, your connection to infinite power, your higher self. Rise up, cast the slave master off your head and wear your crown. Then you won't have to spend so much money at the asian store.
atoneness 2 years ago 3
This is the truth. if we the Hair dressers would teach our clients how to take care of our crowns we want need as much weave. Yet if the clients would shop with the hair salons that are rendering good quality services the people would know how to take better pride with there crowns.
WILLERS227 2 years ago
@atoneness To me it is so pitiable that there are women who bleach their hair, dye it, permanent it, straighten it, weave it, cover it and wig it... be natural! Glory in your SELF! I lost my formerly beautiful hair due to radiation, I now have a tiny mohawk(it's permanent!) and I go natural. I embrace the moment I'm living in, and my life is far richer for it. I'm a human being, not a dress up doll.
morethansalt 1 year ago
@morethansalt
Like I said do not think from a 'black person's perspective' just for one minute.
nohustlenoprogress 1 year ago
Another thing. It was not always popular to wear weave, relaxers, use mineral oil based products, and protoleum based products. and that is mostly what is being sold in both black and korean owned stores.I think it would be proactive on the part of black beauty supply owners to sell higher quality products. Things I can never find in korean stores.Like shea butter, vegetable glicerine, essential oils, natural shampoos and conditioners.Things that acctually help black hair grow. not cover it up.

skye7208 2 years ago
How is this the black consumers fault? we work very hard for our money and just like all races we want the best bargin.I see lots of korens grocery stores but i still see many koreans in walmart and target and many white owned establishments.I think that the koreans have the weave and wig bussiness sewn up. what black beauty supply owners need to do is cater to another demographic(the natural hair community perhaps) or sell their products cheaper.
lumalandy 2 years ago
Why are people not seeing it? The answer to the black hair industry crisis is right in front your eyes... well it's above them but use your brain. I'm going support these Korean stores(non racist ones) morally as long as they can out compete everyone. If all these black own business game together in IDEOLOGY they could wipe out the Korean stores in 5 years max(if the wished so).
godofthisshit 2 years ago
no they couldnt. wishful thinking is for the losers.
rational thinking is for the indifferent. between the two of us, i think our roles are clear.
now as the rational side, i can tell you with 80% dominance, black joining isnt going to do a thing. the manufacturing is controlled by the Koreans as well, not just the distribution.
even if you join the few black manufactures with the few black owned stores, they will never have prices as low.
industry is lost to blacks. save gov interference.
angryaznman 2 years ago
Tell me angryanman, what happen if the culture of black hair changed so rapidly and drastic, would the Koreans still be able to control manufacturing?
godofthisshit 2 years ago
interesting...no doubt in the scenario the joined black owned distributors and manufactures manage to create all new styles, products, etc.
they would have the monopoly on it. if they capitalize and copyright it properly before the bigger companies get a hold of the ideas....
yes, in theory they could take it back.
but completely reinventing an entire industry...ambitious...
even so, the most likely way to turn this around is government. push for a subsidy on AMERICAN made hair products.
angryaznman 2 years ago
Actully it could be very easy, so simple and it grows everywhere. It just take a new view about beauty. It's so simple that it's a shame these black down companies cant figure it out, but maybe that's due to them also having blinders over they eyes.
godofthisshit 2 years ago
@angryaznman If black people had discipline ,game plan and vision they wouldn't have a problem but when you have a mentality of getting over and crabs in a barrel then a dollar here and a dollar getting over takes precidents over controll of a industry.
BLACKNINJA1 1 year ago
which can be perceived negatively but you will also not be judged 'this way'. I am not trying to argue anyones side, just trying to explain the thinking of many other nationalities out there ;)
Still, good luck with your business, you know your customers may prefer you because you are all American, and you have great experience with African American Hair Types, that is your advantage.
DieSushiBitch 2 years ago
The thing is that the Koreans, and Japanese etc., think in terms of nationality instead of ethnicity. Youre not gonna see all Asians unite, or all Europeans if you will...they rather look out for their own country.
And here is what African Americans are not - a country. To everyone out there you will be viewed as American, people will not even pay regards to the way you look...

Will you contact other beauty supply store owners and be the one to seek to collaborate with them? When we stop thinking of ourselves as separate, we'll truly be moving beyond bigotry.
morethansalt 3 years ago 5
That is a very valid point. The Problem is that there are some things we can control and some which we cannot. We only influence the things that we can control. We can control our own feelings, choices, and decisions. We cannot control anyone elses. The very sad truth is that separation does exist and its not going to change over night. But we can make a difference simply by CHOOSING. Choose to be happy not sad. Choose to help not hurt. Choose to be a part of a solution, not the problem.
