i am no islander fan at all. but i think you guys are thinking of pilon wrong. he wasnt an enforcer, he was more of an adam graves type guy. he would stand up for his teamates. he wasnt a send pilon out to fight guy, that was vukota's job. he was tough, but not a heavyweight. and i respect him for going with anyone when he had to.
I remember Richie Pilon came down to our town library to talk to us kids, answer questions, sign autographs, etc. Was a real stand-up guy. I agree with Hnil, him and Vukota were some badass mofos who were tough as nails. The Isles could use guys like that nowadadys.
asshole he was forced to wear a visor - to continue his hackey career. The NHL and Islanders made him wear it Pilon was 1 of the toughest SOB'S in the NHL back then so watch your mouth and get ur facts straight
Pilon is a good fried of mine, Lost some vison in his one eye in hockey, and thats why he wore a visor. He was lucky not to loos his sight at the time of the accident.
Pilon was a pilon.. haha

Even as an Islander fan, I always hated Pilon. He was a punk.

It sounds like you weren't much of an Islander fan. The grinders like Pilon, Vukota and Dalgarno were the heart and soul of the early 90's teams.
