As if you just dropped the opossum like *CLUNK* into the bag/bathtub lol. How are you guys so afraid of that tiny creature. Just so you know, it couldn't be rabid, just like a mouse is rarely rabid - a bite from a rabid animal would kill the thing.
Wow. That's a whole lot of protection for a baby opossum. Someone's scared! LOL Gain some knowledge on the interenet, and you will realize that there is minimal danger from a juvinile opossum.
it's just a baby, idiot. You should have taken it to a wild life sanctuary.... and you 2 were acting like it was rapid badger.... for cryingout loud....some people are too ignorant to breath.
Possums cant get rabies, they will just die if they are bitten by something with rabies, most likely, or just not catch the disease. They are immune to near everything. ALSO, thats not a baby(: Its a yound adult. Even though it is small, its about ready to breed. Due to a possums short life span -3 years, they mature at around 5-6 months, so that is an adult, as that is the rough size of 5-6 months. They are still small die to the small size they are born at, howere they can get quite large(:
@BrandonDurkeeHunting You're an a@@hole!!!!!! I have 3 opossums and they sweet and gentle creaturesw who get a bad rap because they get scared and show their teeth. they are docile!
@angelpaws6 OOOH ! ! my lord you are sooo..... LUCKY ......I miss my "cupake "so much!!!! We had our cupcake for years. I raised her from a pinky.....she grew up in the top section of my summer tank tops. It was like her mothers pouch.she only left my side when i showered, untill she didn't fit .I'm crying writing this......2 yrs ago she passed , i still cry like a baby when ever i talk about her......i need to stop crying now.....i cant see to type!!! she was my little lovey!! I MISS HER SO!!!
NO_JOKE....my 87 year old mother, who lived through the great depression of the1930s (in southern Indiana) said they used to eat possums and squirrels. I guess if you are starving to death anything thats alive and moving looks good to eat
Awwh. I usually cringe at possums, but this one reminds me of that one I found in my yard trash can once. When I looked down at it, it was trembling and holding a half-eaten kumquat in its tiny little hands. It was soooo precious lol
Thanks so much for rescuing him. He probably just wandered in. I found one in a washing machine, fortunately before anyone used it. A little one like that can be picked up with your hands. If he did decide to bite, it wouldn't be enough to bother you. At that size, he's going to look good to a lot of predators so next time, find a wildlife rehab center to take him to.
They will keep him until he's bigger, then let him/her go back to the wild.
i just rescued one, the best thing is to keep him for 2 or 3 weeks and release him in a refuge park close by your house. They are too small and can be killed by other animals in the neighborhood. They eat pet food, cat food and fruit.
They can play sick or dead. Their body temperature is too low to carry rabies. They do not carry rabies.
dude.. you should have kept it as a pet and nursed it back to health because it is just a baby and it probably died after you let it go beause it needs its mother. Also never pick up an animal from its neck, and the oppossums mom never does that they hang on to her on her back or her stomach
They are very gentle creatures. Their main defense is to act ferocious (which they are good at!) but they are definately all bark and no bite. And it is very, very rare to find a rabid opossum (unlike skunks, racoons, bats, etc).
eww are you sirious i would havee likke freaked i love animalss butt you dontt no what a possum can have thatsss uchhhhh..and som11 said touch it with ur bare hands are u nuts! get a dog or a cat or somthing if u love possums sooo muchh dont raisee it too livee
they said in the description "We thought it was going to be vicious and rabid" and i am just like you opossums are my favorite animal!!! hope it was okay afterwards.
Amazing the transformation from somewhat cute baby into adult opossum, one of the most hideous animals to ever walk the face of the earth.

A baby this small needs to go to a wildlife rehab center to get about twice a big before being released.

capistrantomas: but can't a possom get rabies from being bitten by an animal that has rabies?....like a dog with rabies
inkey2 2 years ago
No inkey... they have a lower body temperature than other mammals, and this low temp does not support rabies.

You do realise that opossum died. The mother provides food and theyre pretty helpless and vunerable at that age.
You were also seriously WAY too cautious. You could have picked the baby up and put that in your hand and it just would have probably slept.

Hate to break it to you, but they're kind of defenseless if they don't have a mother. It probably died a while after you released it.
It's not like you knew, though.
