  • Thank you, I did check out the Amsterdam performance. There's also footage from the Wiener Volksoper production which looks interesting.

  • Maestralno, prvi put slusam ! ! ! Janacek je zaista genije !

  • Does she die?

  • Anja Silja is the best. Every role she sings and plays she really turns into the character. And this already for 50 years now..... How can one not love her....... The only genuine Emilia Marty of the stage.....

  • She looks a bit old for the part but she sings the hell out of it.

  • I spoke to Mme Silja last weekend in Berlin shortly after a performance of Pique Dame and asked her for a next Vec Makropulos. But she told me she will not sing that role anymore, since this production does not exist anymore and she doesn't want to do it in new productions..... A pity, she is now 68years old but the voice is still in great shape!

  • What would be nice is if there are videos of her performance of this role when she was younger.

  • She did not perform this role much earlier than on the recording I believe.

And personally I believe that would not add much to her performance: The voice has not differed much over time. OK, she would have looked younger then, but then again the story is about a woman that has been there for a long time and done it all, and I think Anja Silja in her later career was on the same sort of level as the character of Emilia Marty....

  • @martello79 I think Frau Silja first sang Emilia Marty in Stuttgart in 1970. Which means she has sung the part longer than Callas sang in opera, including her Greek years.

  • @Buondelmonte123 Yeah you are right. I am very curious how that sounds! Obviously there is 35 years between the first and last performance :)

Btw did you check out thr final I uploaded? It's from Amsterdam 2000 andf I think Miss Silja is in ever better vocal shape there :)

  • In the story the lady is 337 years old! I think she looks great :-)

  • I am writing an essay on this Opera, presenting the issue of symbolism.. The Doctore mentioned in the lecture a statue of Rudulf holding a globe and a scythe and I have to include this on my essay.. The problem is; I don't remember seeing any statue while watching the Opera so I can't really picture the scene, therefore I cant write my essay in details.. would you please help me? Any information would be useful..

    Thanks alot

  • Fantastic, I wanted to upload this but for thechnical reasons this part was missing. It connects with and completes my upload. Thanks PPanncho
