  • nice to see nilan getting a beating, too bad it didn't happen often

  • Larry also lost to Bob Nystrom which I forgot to mention.

  • That turd Sanderson can't even put a coherent sentence together let alone judge a fight correctly. Fucking mush mouthed crack head.

  • #1 Probert #2 Brown #3 Laraque

  • Probet, Laraque, Kocur top 3. I would have said Probert clear #1 but he got slammed harder then the other 2 by a guy named Ewan I think. In the 2nd tier with Robinson I'd put Playfair, Dave Schultz, Chris Simon, McSorley and Brassiere. Note I didn't put Domi in because he was too small to really hurt the big guys, he just could take a lot of punishment, and I also didn't put Boogard in because he's been exposed by Laraque several times as a guy that can't hang in the division.

  • the razor?

  • @flowerdrop1 Probert was still young (only his 2nd season Jan 1987) when he was dropped by Ewen, and wasn't the champ yet. Probert's breakthrough season when he became champ was the following year. Kocur took some terrible beatings early in his career too, but in the early 1990s he was co-champ with probert. Kocur went 3 full seasons (over 40 scraps) without a defeat.

  • @flowerdrop1 first of all, guys lined up to fight Probert because Ewen, Chris Simon, Ken Belanger and several others absolutely destroyed him. No one taking those shitkickings is a #1. Probert jumped Sandy McCarthy and still got pounded. Top fighters rarely if ever lose. That list includes Playfair and Behn Wilson, who were HW champs of the NHL. Probert lost more than 50 times, many decisively. Joe Kocur?? DAVE RICHTER; end of discussion. Kocur was a hard puncher, not a great fighter

  • @justice008a Playfair and Behn Wilson lost plenty and they didn't play in the ear that Probert did. There's no comparison. The athletes at the end of Proberts ear were better conditioned bigger and stronger. You put Behn Wilson or Playfair in Proberts era and they'd lose more than Probert did. And The fights Probert lost were mostly in his waning years. Behn Wilson got beat badly in by Nick Fotiu (among others) and Playfiar lost to Curt Fraser and Chris Nilan to name a few......

  • @SCROGY That should be "era"........both times.

  • @SCROGY considering Wilson is from a different "era", he was still better against common opponents Nilan, Fraser, and Wendel Clark. Clark beat Probert 3 of 4, Fraser tossed Probert to the ice and smashed him with punches in CHI, and Nilan BEAT Probert LOL. Wilson destroyed Nilan 3 times, hit Fraser with more punches in 1 fight than Probert could in 3, and Wendel Clark calls Behn Wilson the best he's ever fought, didn't even mention Probert's name. Those opponents are ALL from Probert's PRIME

  • @justice008a HOLY fuck. If you think Wendel Clark beat Probert even once you're on crack. Probert fucking wasted Fraser and Nilan. Probert LET people punch him until they got tired. Look at his fight with Dean Kennedy. If you think he's doing ANYTHING other than playing with Kennedy you're retarded. It was almost comical how he taunted Kennedy in that fight. Probert LET people hit him until they got tired. He actually tapped on Jay Millers shoulder pads WHILE Miller was hitting him.

  • @justice008a ............But it wasn't Probert who had to have his teeth checked out when he skated back to the bench. Don't believe it, watch the fight. When Miller skates back to the bench he shows the trainer his loose teeth. Are you really taht stupid not to notice how Probert bided his time and let guys hit him? He actually taunted guys like Daryl Stanley, Dean Kennedy and Jay Miller. Funny how you forget that Probert Destroyed Fraser in the NHL isn't it?

  • @justice008a And common opponents don't mean squat in fights. I don't care who they fought as common opponents. The only think that matters is when they fight each other.

Fight math doesn't work. Frazier beats Ali. Foreman CRUSHES Frazier, so Foreman will CRUSH Ali right? Oh wait......SORRY......nope. Fight math is for desperate people with zero insight into fighting.

Wilson didn't do anything when he fought Probert. If he was so much more bad ass why didn't he destroy Bobby?

  • @SCROGY why are you chirping about Miller or Kennedy? I haven't mentioned either. Let me educate your pea brain: YOU were the one talking about eras. Wilson is 7 years older than Probert and those common opponents were all younger and better fighters when Wilson fought them, and Wilson did better than Probert in every one. Probert was 23 and Wilson was 30 -- after missing an ENTIRE SEASON with back surgery -- when they fought and still Wilson beat his ass. Talk about 0 fuckin insight.

  • @justice008a Because it's relevant you dumb fuck. It's Probert style of fighting. And if you think Wilson beat Porberts ass you need to take Behn balls out of your mouth. That wasn't even a fight. It was a travesty. The only loser in that fight was the fans. Because it was garbage. The fact that you think Wilson "won' that fights proves how much of a nut hugger you are. No one won that fight. It was that bad. You seem to conveniently forget that Probert hammered Fraser......

  • @SCROGY ............stronger and faster. Guy Lafluer smoked cigarettes and was a drunk yet he was one of the top players in the league at the time. He wouldn't even cut it in the AHL today. Sports specific training methods are making athletes better every year. Why do you think fighters are getting hurt more than 30 years ago? Because guys are better athletes and more capable of hurting people. 90% of the fighters from 25 years ago wouldn't be able to beat the 10th best fighter now.

  • @justice008a ................silly in the NHL. I don't care what happened in some BS league league. Probert could have lost some school yard fight to a girl for all I care. When he was in his prime he was the best fighter and the most dominant HW champ the league has ever seen. You also seem to forget a loss Wilson had to Wensink in which he was knocked down(you said he never was). And he sure as hell did NOT beat Probert. I don't know where you get you judgments from but they are garbage.

  • @SCROGY Let's talk about fighting "each other". WHO THE FUCK DID PROBERT EVER BEAT THAT DIDN'T KICK HIS ASS IN RETURN? Wilson beat Gillies twice without losing and beat Beck, who was unbeaten. Probert has a losing career record against Berube, Brashear, Chychrun, Clark, Crowder, Kris King (LOL), Kocur, Langdon (LOL), Laus, Reid Low, McCarthy, Jim McKenzie, Morrisette, Nazarov, Nilan (LOL 3X), Shelley, Simon, Tamer, Twist, and Worrell. Holy fuck, and you wanna chirp at me? Grow a fuckin brain

  • @justice008a Fuck buddy you are pathetic. Probert lost ONE of those Berube fights. ONE. That's it. He beat Chychrun and Clark Destroyed Crowder twice (and only lost the first one because he stepped on a stick). King, Kocur (WTF are you on dude?!?), Langdon, Nilan? He never lost to those guys. Get a new set of eyes dude. Yes he started losing in his waning years, but EVERY fighter does. The only reason Wilson didn't lose more fights is because he got hurt and retired early...........

  • @justice008a Barry Beck wasn't even a fighter. He was just a big guy. In fact he hated fighting and spoke out loudly about it. Most of the people Wilson fought were tough hockey players. Most of the people Probert fought were pure goons. Fighters, there to do nothing but fight. And half of them were 10x the athletes that any body Wilson fought were. It isn;t just the players that are getting better today. Fighters are getting better because training methods are making them bigger.....

  • @SCROGY Again, your arguments make zero sense because -- as I've already showed you -- Wilson did better against the SAME guys Probert fought. Did better against McSorley, Nilan, Fraser, Gillies, Wendel Clark, etc., etc. and since Wilson was 7 years OLDER than Probert and Wilson didn't have any NHL fights against these guys when they were little kids -- ALL of these guys were younger, stronger, BETTER fighters (in your words) when Wilson fought against them than when Probert got around to it.

  • @justice008a Except Probert didn't lose to those guys except in your bizzaro world. Hell, Probert was beating the crap out of McSorley so badly in their last marathon that he actually allowed McSorley BACK INTO the fight twice. Once when Marty's shirt came over his head and once when he dropped McSorley. He could have kept pounding Marty but he didn't. Marty knows he got two gifts from Bobby that night. That's the kind of fighter Bob was.

  • @SCROGY that's Fantastic -- it took Wilson less than 5 seconds to beat McSorley to the ice. Your comments do a better job of proving my point than whatever you're trying to argue. I'll give you a hint: go to dropyourgloves -- these are fights reviewed by a panel of people; winner is decided by poll, not any particular person. I do not vote on these fights; some I agree with and some I do not. Probert lost to ALL of those I said by these votes not mine alone. Lose your "Probert blinders"

  • @justice008a Really surprising that a bunch of fat losers that have probably never been in a fight in their lives are voting against the guy that made a career out of beating up on their favorite players. You see players that are usually the most popular also usually make the least popular lists too. Probert gets a lot of hate in Toronto for beating Wendel Clark and pretty much every tough guy the Leafs have ever had.

  • @justice008a I don't have Probert blinders. I admitted that he lost numerous fights as he got older, and I really don't care what those losers think. I have seen the kinds of people that think Wendel Clark beat Bob Probert. Fat middle age losers who wear blue and white body paint to Leafs games, get drunk and then try to start fights in the parking lot with people wearing Detroit jerseys. If those retards think Probert lost to Curt Fraser in the NHL they are as nuts as you are.

  • @justice008a Don't put mscorley in there, mscorley was a nothing fighter at the time of his fight vs wilson, was a much skinnier and weaker 190lb man at that time. mcsorley didn't become a top heavyweight until his edmonton era in 1986/1987/88 by which time he had bulked up to 225. Wilson fought mcsorley long before that time, while probert fought the prime mcsorley in 1988 and a still very tough mcsorley in 1994

  • @lakeerie90s OK I guess I can just wipe Wilson's losses to Fotiu and Wensink off the history books then because he was 20?? That starts to make Wilson an even higher #1 than before because Plett and McClelland are the only losses in his career. McSorley already had hard battles with Gillies and Holmgren as well as Willi Plett before his fight with Wilson -- he knew what he was doing. I can't evaluate a fight between a coke addict and a steroid addict other than to say they were both cheaters

  • @justice008a perhaps, but not all fighters "peak" at the same age. some fighters "peak" in the middle or even later in their careers like Mcsorley, Grimson, Brashear, Domi, Nilan. They take a lot of beatings in their first 2-3 years. However, others are at their primes early and kicking ass right from day 1 when they are around 20 or in their rookie year, like Wilson, Playfair, Sandy McCarthy, Laraque, Wendel Clark, John Kordic, Jim Kyte.

  • @lakeerie90s you make a very good point, but I'll dispute with you that either Domi or Nilan ever really "peaked" lol. They were both experts at taking beatings more than giving them out. I wouldn't put either of their win percentages above 50% -- it's a certainty neither were upper echelon guys

  • @SCROGY The fact that you would say Behn Wilson got beat badly by Fotiu is laughable. Have you not taken a look lately at Probert being trashed by Simon, or Belanger, or Laus? When the fuck did Wilson EVER get beat like that? When the fuck did he EVER get dropped the way Probert did by Morrisette or Ewen? None of Wilson's FOUR losses remotely resemble at least 10 of the losses on Probert's book. Are you really THAT fuckin stupid?? When did Wilson ever quit like Probert did against Brown?

  • @justice008a LOL dude your the biggest Wilson nuthugger on earth. Hell I loved Behn Wilson but I am not that blind. Fotiu punched his face in. Every other poster on YT thinks Fotiu clearly won that fight. Wilson never even laid a hand on Fotiu. And Plett won more than one of their fights too. Wilson lost far more fights than you pretend he did. He was a sick fighter but lol only 4 losses? Dream on. Wilson never had to fight the kind of athletes Probert did. Half the guys in the........

  • @justice008a .........league at Wilson's time couldn't even make the AHL today and half were drunks. Think about this: The great boxer gene Tunney lost one fight in his career. Bring him into Tyson or Lennox Lewis' time and he wouldn't beat the 50th ranked heavyweight. The fighters at the end of Proberts career were getting bigger stronger and faster at an alarming rate. Who would you rather fight, prime George Laraque or prime Kim Clackson? Pretty obvious.

  • @justice008a LOL at you. Brown was the one holding Proberts sleeves. Brown quit in that fight just like Domi did. Domi did not beat Probert in the first fight and anyone that thinks he did is a moron. You have a fucked up perspective on judging fights. The only fight I have really seen PRIME Probert hold on in was the Miller fight with L.A and that was after a long layoff, and after he pounded Miller for a full minute.

  • @justice008a Not only that but you need to get Wilsons balls out of your mouth. He lost a lot more than 4 fights.

  • @justice008a And as for the Joey Kocur fight? Guys rag on Kocur for that fight when Richter jumped him and Joey fell after throwing a punch and Richter hit him several times on the ice. Kocur landed face down on the ice and the damage was done by the fall not by Richter. Everyone thinks Dave knocked him down but in slo mo the punch missed and Joey clearly drilled himself into the ice when he missed his swing.

  • @justice008a Anybody can get caught with a quick punch. Ewen got lucky. He wasn't even known as a great fighter and was actually known for jumping guys. Anyone can catch a top guy with a quick punch. Look at Ewens list of losses. He got the jump on so many guys and then ended up losing It's clear he was very fortunate to catch Probert and should thank God he did. A total anomaly. The majority of Proberts losses were well past his prime. Behn Wilson went downhill after he got traded too.

  • probie was King of the Mountain longer than anyone , fought everyone , including every young lion looking to prove himself , and , don't forget,

he avenged every single loss he ever had in the rematch

he belongs in the HHOF, imo

  • @hockeybooks you are right, but he didn't quite fight everyone: john Kordic, Gord Donnelly are missing

  • @lakeerie90s he tried to fight Kordic twice....once when Kordic was with the Habs and linesmen separated them. The other time Kordic backed up from one end of the ice to the other while Probie pursued....not saying Kordic would've lost but he looked like he wasn't very eager to scrap. Donnelly was a very tough south-paw. He was under-rated in a big way. Would have been a good one for sure.

  • @hockeybooks he never avenged the Ewen KO. I like Probie too, but let's be honest

  • @flowerdrop1 I am pretty sure he did.

  • @hockeybooks LOL.......according to that justice guy he lost every fight he had......;)

  • For me, it's tough to choose an all time number 1. They ALL lost a few at some point. Pound for pound you could argue Stan Jonathan was the best. I'd put hime in the top 5 with Playfair, Probert, Dan Maloney, and Brown, but in no particular order. Honorable mention to Robinson, Gillies, and Kocur. Stage fighters of today and recent years don't count for me. jmo

  • Fotiu, Gillies, & Behn Wilson were as tough as any of them!

  • Top 5 of all time (in no order):

Probert, Gillies, Dave Brown, Laraque, and McSorley. Playfair is def. top 10 along with Larry Robinson. No one wanted to fight these 2 guys which is why they don't have many highlights. I'm glad someone posted this tribute to Playfair, dude was a great fighter

  • Hey sparwood: Nothing personal!! I just wanted to point out that kocur ko'd jim playfair, not larry. For the record, i am 44 years old and i DON'T know everything. I just checked out your profile and you seem like a good guy. Again, my apologies if i sounded arrogant. The last thing i want is to sound like some of these other commentators. Have a good weekend!!!

  • yo quietriot46,u r so right bro,u hit the nail on the head with that statement.even if a bruin was getting detroyed they would sugercoat it.good lookin out bro.

  • I always love to hear the homer Boston announcers they never called anything with integrity and honesty.

  • If playfair got in one solid punch it was over, truth is,it made him sick to his stomach when he hurt people. He did what he had to do but he hated it. the other players are sooo lucky he didn't like to fight.

  • watch the other larry/ mclelland fight jackass

  • Wow,! Did old Playfair ever work over Chris Nilan!

  • He did a good thing, then. Playfair; good old B.C. boy from Fort St. James

  • Hey sparwood8: You're a smart nhl fight fan. The playfair that kocur knocked out was JIM playfair[larry's brother]. You say playfair wasn't in the top ten, i say, in his prime, he was the best ever. You are out to lunch. Alot of people say that probert was the best and that is tough to argue with as probert played junior right here in hamilton. Playfair still gets my vote as best fighter of all time.

  • good for you. what's it like to know everything? (Were you even alive back then?)

  • I'm getting into this debate late, but you are so right about the Playfair thing. To be honest, I wouldn't put Kocur in the top ten. I'm sure I'll hear about it on here too, but Probert fought the tougher opponents while they played together. Probert is my number 1 and I would put Playfair and Dave Brown around the same place tied for second. The way Playfair worked Nilan over makes me think Playfair goes ahead of Brownie by a hair. Good call on the Kocur thing though.

  • Playfair was one tough dude!!!

  • I remember a fight he had with Semenko. Toe to toe, good scrap. I called it a draw

  • I'm hoping someone will post a vid of the Semenko vs Playfair fights

  • Game might not have been televised though

  • Kotsopolus, such a big time brawler :p

  • Comment removed

  • OMG shut the fuck up that Playfair was only slightly better then Secord. Playfair is considered Top 10 all time by smart fight fans. Even most silly talking Bruins homers would agree. They watched him beat Bruin ass for many years.

Secord scored punches with linesmen in between them. Tainted. Besides KOing Kim Clackson, Secord was just average his whole career in the fisticuff department.

  • if you listen closely under the commentary you can actually hear Nilan yelling for his mommy to come take him home...... what a pussy lol........ Playfair easily among 10 best all time

  • I am a smart NHL fight fan. Playfair was nowhere near in the top ten. He did give Semenko a good toe to toe BUT: Larry was one dirty son of a bi**h. I lost ALL respect for him in vnaoucver when he cross checked Richie Sutter in the mouth. Sutter lost 4 teeth. Playfair 6-4 and 220 and Sutter 5-11 and 170 soaking wet. All Richie wanted was to tkae him on in a scrap.

Kudos to Joey Kocur for kayoing that overpaid goon (Playfair)

  • playfair was nowhere near top 10.....ya u know more than melrose, engblom, cherry, clement, terry oreilly, hell even lydon byers said he was the only player he was truly afraid of.....but ill take ur word for it since u have more experience than those guys

  • Hey numbnutz, we all lose a few , and larrry lost more then 2, "jimmy mann, ok, so maybe 3, anyway, your right he is not a top 10, he's a top 5, NO F IN DOUBT. You think he's not all that, then you take him on

  • my first statement was sarcasm......obvioiusly playfair is top 10 and def in my top 5......i was responding to someone who said he was nowhere near top 10.....read the rest of the statement

  • nope never happened....it was a punch that broke his jaw and knocked his teeth out.....larry talks about it on the sabres website....ur right, u r a smart NHL fan

  • secord

  • I am not a Buffalo Sabres fan.

Al "won" this fight on the account of Playfair slipping and falling, and thats about it. I'm more impressed by someone causing a guy to fall because of his punches. Secord, for his era, was 6'1 205 a bigger-than-average player and he always wrestled instead of throwing punches anytime he fought somebody who could go

  • Secord also scored 54 and 44 goals

  • Playfair ROCKS!!!!!!!

  • Playfair was big but couldn't fight worth a damn

  • That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Playfair was one of the most feared players of the 1980s. As Clark Gillies said "you didn't mess around with Playfair". Lyndon Byers called him the only player he was ever truly afraid of.

  • Playfair was a badass for sure. Secord hardly "kicked his ass"...he did what he always did...he just hugged him and then when Playfair slipped, he threw a flurry of slaps to make it look like he was actually fighting. Playfair is top ten all time no doubt

  • Secord wasnt a hugger you jackass..and Yes, Secord KICKED PLAYFAIR's Ass here. Playfair was bigger and a slightly better fighter than Al, but he was also 4 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier.

  • I can tell by your name that you are incredibly biased here. Secord kicked nothing here. YOu must have also missed everyone of their other fights in which Playflair soundly defeated the hugger. Secord was one of the most bullshit fighters EVER... he always wrestled and hugged unless he had an advantage (i.e. the other guy slipped and fell) THEN he would throw a bunch of slaps and guys like you would yell like crazy

  • milan lucic is my hometown pride n joy

i HAD!! to post some of his footage

especially the profile with his hottie mom..hehe

as much as the Giants will miss the guy who was gonna be our captain ,

we're thrilled he forced the B's to keep him

  • Oh yeah! Lucic is fast becoming a Bruin fan favorite. He's a tough kid, but Coach Julien is also letting the kid develop as a player. He's a keeper!

  • Hey boston: I'm sorry about your father passing away. My father is an 88year old wwII veteran going downhill fast. I hope you still have your bruin tickets as this kid milan lucic is something special. You guys in boston must love this kid.

  • Hey boston: Todays bruins suck! They haven't had a decent heavyweight since jay miller. Even cam neely on off the record (tv show) doesn't like them. I missed him fighting playfair. I watched probert play junior in hamilton(right here). I've watched fighters probably before you were born (i'm 42). In his prime, nobody wanted to fight playfair.

  • I agree that boston is a joke right now. We have the worst owner (Jeremy Jacobs) in the NHL. Trust me, the fans aren't gonna take it. With the Patriots, Red Sox, and now celtics all competing for wolrd titles, the box office receipts will reflect our anger! By the way, Ken Belanger was the last good heavfyweight Boston had. Miller ws slightly over rated.

  • By the way, to show how overrated Playfair was, Al Secord kicked his ass, and Secord was about the 6th best fighter on Boston at the time!

  • Secord had one win and four losses against Playfair in his career.

  • Oh yeah, and did McClelland from LA beat the shit out of Playfair>? It was a pretty bad ass kicking if I remember correctly.

  • McC did take it to him, but it was over pretty quickly... they went down to the ice too fast for it to get out of hand.

  • @boston4877 this is true....

  • lmao Buckett1965. I'm a Boston bruins fan, and your comment is a fucking joke! Probert, Kocur, and current heavyweight champ Georges Laraque would all whipe their asses with Larry Playfair. Hell, Cam Neely kicked his ass. Clark Gilies of the Islanders was tougher too.

  • Like i've said before, in his prime, Larry playfair, in my opinion, was the best fighter of all time. I am a big bob probert fan but i think playfair would have beat him. Playfair routinely beat up nilan, terry o'reilly, etc. In his prime, nobody wanted to fight him. He DESTROYED chris nilan in this video and nilan was no slouch. Thanks for the video!!

  • you are 7 years older than I am, so youve seen a few more bouts than me,but not many. My dad was in Rick Middleton's wedding. He was friends with Bobby Miller, Terry o'reiley, Stan Jonathan, and several of the Bruins players when I was a kid. He took me to my first game when I was 6 weeks old! I dont remember anything, but he took me to everygame even before I could walk. He died in 2000, but the tickets have been in my family since 1967.

  • Do you still have the same seats?

  • Thanks for posting. Larry was one of the great fighting defensemen ever.

  • Bruins- Lyndon Byers. Flers- Paul Holmgren. Leafs- Dave Hutchinson. Leafs- Chris Kostopoulos. Habs- Chris Nilan. Capitals- Ed Kastelic. Other people I could identify were Bob Kelly (Flyers), John Brophy (Leafs coach) and Don Edwards (Leafs goalie).

  • Bernie, I mostly agree but I think the Leafs coach is Dan Maloney with (injured) Rick Vaive on the head-set. (I didn't know the CAPS Ed Kastelic)
