I must say, New York is looking like a better place to live every day! First gay marriage, now rich people giving to people in need? I need to move there now!
If Bloomberg and Soro's want to donate thier own money i think thats great. But need point out that the Bloomberg admin arrests over 100,000 more blacks 7 latino's a year on non-violent drug charges than guiliani. this idea that Bloomberg is a great guy for donating what is essentially chicken feed to him to the same ppl he targets with grossly un-constitutional programs like stop & frisk which overwhelming affects minorities is a joke. Im in NYC so believe me bloomberg is a dck
I know I'm suspicious of this as well. People in New York, including myself, that hes far from great. I will always be suspicious, especially in this day and age, that rich mothafuckas want to "donate" money to "unfortunate" people (i.e. the rest of us), whether its working poor (like myself and yourself) or unempoyed or individuals in the correctional system as in this case. They fucking rob us but then want to "donate"; donate what? Our money back? Give me a fucking break.
@DaCatOnTop Bloomberg has a lot of tricks last election cycle thier were a couple of stories that caught my eye he would donate his own personal money which i am 100% in favor of Charity is one thing that makes America great, But the charities were Cut by his budget. I believe it was a shelter or something that he cut all city funding 2 years before then "saved" it so they wouldnt endorse thomson like 3 months before election the guys spent 200+ million to be our mayor ppl should remember that
i really want to watch u guys live but whenever i do it always freezes then unfreezes, freezes the unfreezes etc. but when i watch the young turks it doesnt do that to me
@leostomicek they are in terms of numbers, but not economic success. Asian Americans have a higher average income than white Americans, so they don't need the help.
@leostomicek an insane amount of dedication to education that few Americans are capable of, and a collectivist culture that allows them to help each other in ways that few Americans are willing to do.
@leostomicek i don't know enough about the history of Asian culture to know why they are like that. all i know is that before the Age of Enlightenment most cultures were collectivist, after that individualism became more prominent in the western world. American blacks and Latinos have grown up in the excessively individualistic American culture, but that is only viable when you already have wealth to live on (like many white people do). when you're poor you need others to succeed.
I consider myself liberal-leaning, but sometimes, you just have to say that enough is enough. Oftentimes, people are in bad situations due to their own damn fault. Bad life decisions, laziness, etc. Don't tell me there are no opportunities for blacks and latinos. I've seen too many blacks and latinos pull themselves out of poverty and make something of themselves.
Accepting the excuses just encourages laziness. Sometimes a well-deserved kick in the butt works miracles.
@sleazybtd of course many minorities are still poor because of their own bad decisions, and there are plenty of opportunities for us. however, that doesn't mean there are enough opportunities for all of us. based on my experience as a poor black guy (by American standards, although i don't consider myself impoverished) who grew up in poor neighborhoods, there's tons of poor people who are trying to escape poverty, but can't find the opportunity to do so.
@Cuddlebunzzzz I think that's bull. I grew up living in the projects. My parents were on food stamps. I understood that staying in school was the way to a career and ultimately out of poverty.
Now I see black people in general (not all, but a huge majority) wanting to take shortcuts. Ask any black kid what they want to be when they grow up and you'll likely hear that they want to be a hip-hop or sports star. Basically, easy money for perceived minimal work.
@sleazybtd you grew up in one project in one part of the country among tons of projects in a fairly large country. your experience doesn't reflect everyone else's experience. yes there's a lot of kids who want to be rappers or NBA stars, there's also a lot of kids who want a realistic career but can't afford to get to college to start it. a lot of opportunities =/= enough opportunity for everybody. the opportunities you and i had aren't available to everyone in our situation.
@Cuddlebunzzzz School is available for everyone. How do you explain the high drop-out rate for blacks? There are plenty of opportunities for those willing to work for them. And none for lazy people who can't even get their act together to finish school.
@sleazybtd for a self-proclaimed liberal, you sound like a typical conservatard who thinks all poor people got in that situation because they're lazy. i personally know several people who work hard and utilize all the resources available to them, but are still stuck in poverty.
as for drop-out rates, poverty creates many circumstances that make graduation more difficult. something as basic as improper nutrition can impede a person's academic success. more poor blacks=more black dropouts.
@Cuddlebunzzzz I don't believe that all poor people are in their situation due to laziness. I said earlier that I've seen too many blacks and hispanics work their way out of poverty to believe that there are too few opportunities. I've also seen too many people reject opportunities because it was too much work. They take shortcuts and make excuses.
I disagree with the liberal ideology in regards to race. Accepting people's excuses encourages laziness which keeps them in poverty.
@sleazybtd by your logic, all white people should be rich because there's already a lot of rich white people. you're still not understanding the idea that just because there is a lot of something doesn't mean that there is enough for everyone. the amount of people who need those opportunities outnumber the amount of opportunities available, and even the ones that are available aren't available to everyone. some people are lazy and make excuses, some work their ass off and never get anywhere.
@Cuddlebunzzzz I'm not following how you're following my logic.
I do understand the concept of not enough opportunities for all.
Do you understand my point that schools are a huge opportunity? Schooling is available for all, but if you drop out, then you screwed yourself and I have no sympathy for you.
It's rare for people to work hard and get nowhere. You can usually tell who would make it and who would amount to nothing even when they're children.
@sleazybtd schooling is not available for all, at least not college. despite all the scholarships and stuff out there, not everyone can afford to go, and you can't do anything with a high school diploma these days. even if you do get to college and graduate, there's no guarantee you'll get a job.
tell all people working 2-3 jobs to barely get by that working hard makes you successful. hard work =/= success, that is the view of an over privileged person who's never worked as hard as they think.
@Cuddlebunzzzz Let's work on just getting blacks to finish high school before we tackle college.
Working hard won't always lead to success. You also need some brains. You don't just work like a horse. You need to work towards something. If you just work without specific goals, then nothing is going to happen for you.
If I'm over-privileged, then you're just making excuses. And you already know my opinion about people who make excuses.
@sleazybtd a high school diploma is just as useless as a perfect attendance award you got in kindergarten these days. yea everyone can get a high school diploma, but it's worthless without further education (whether it be college or something else). working towards goals is something that has to be taught, and not everyone is taught that, or they are taught to work towards fruitless goals (e.g getting fancy stuff for your car). that is another opportunity many people don't get.
@Cuddlebunzzzz More excuses. Yeah, everyone can get a high school diploma, BUT NOT EVERYONE DOES. A diploma is better than no diploma. With just a diploma, doors get slammed in your face. Without a diploma, even more doors get slammed in your face.
Learning how to set goals is part of growing up. I don't see how you're calling that an opportunity. Now you're just talking nonsense. If you can't set goals or set crappy goals, then why should employers hire such losers?
@sleazybtd someone who grows up in a household where education, wealth, and hard work are present and valued will learn to set goals related to those things and become successful. a person who grows up in a household where the providers live paycheck to paycheck or only focusing on getting quick easy money will learn how to set short-term fruitless goals that screw them in the long run. being raised to value education and hard work is an opportunity that not everyone gets.
@Cuddlebunzzzz So what's your plan? Teach them how to plan for the future? Reality check here: if they dropped out of high school, chances are, they don't want to learn anything new.
Whatever your plan, do you think it will have any better success than all the other race-related failures? Like desegregation busing and affirmative action? What were the results of those programs?
You're just a dogmatic liberal. If people like you used your brain, this country would be better off.
@sleazybtd great job at generalizing people who drop out, very open-minded of you.
my "plan" would be to teach people to value education from a young age. something simple, yet no one's willing to do it because of people like you.
how am i a dogmatic liberal when i support things like second amendment rights and eating animals? just because we don't agree doesn't mean my ideals are dogmatic, if anything that "blacks/latinos are lazy bums" idea of yours is a staple of conservative dogma.
@sleazybtd when did i say you're a racist? you're definitely bigoted towards people who drop out of high school by assuming that 90% of them are just plain lazy. no doubt that many of them are, but many others drop out for other reasons. everyone i personally know who's dropped out has done it to either get a job and take care of a kid or family member, or to get their GED and to get into college early. the only thing i've got out of our exchange is that you're ignorant and judgmental.
@sleazybtd your second point is the reason why this mess still exists. since you like to make the excuse (Mr. No Excuses) that most of them are lazy instead of looking at the real reasons why most of them drop out. that's willful ignorance due to bigotry, which isn't something to be proud of.
i never said i'm not ignorant or judgmental. however i am aware that i (just like everyone else) possesses these character flaws, and i don't use them to discriminate against people like you're doing.
@Cuddlebunzzzz Can you explain how believing laziness leads to drop-outs is an excuse?
You criticize my point #2, but completely ignore my point #4. If someone drops out due to laziness or other obligations, I'm not opposed to giving them second or third chances.
Ignorant and dishonest. First you want college opportunities for HS drop-outs (which is nonsense), then you accuse me of holding people back but don't explain how, then you accuse me of being a racist then deny it.
@sleazybtd by assuming they're all lazy you're making an excuse to not help them by addressing the cause of their laziness. people are lazy because they aren't motivated, but instead of considering ways to instill some work ethic into them, you simply dismiss them and say we should leave them to rot.
i'm dishonest? you just said you'll give people second chances, then say that drop-outs shouldn't have college opportunities.
i didn't intentionally (keyword=intent) call you racist, i apologize
@Cuddlebunzzzz When did I say that they were all lazy? I believe I used the figure 90%. I did concede that some people do drop out due to other obligations. I don't feel the need to motivate people, however, if they motivate themselves, then they should get a second chance.
When did I say there should be no college opportunities? I was simply pointing out the absurdity of demanding college opportunities for high school drop-outs. Apparently, you haven't put any thought into it.
@Cuddlebunzzzz As much as I enjoy taunting mental-dwarfs, there are limits. You're attributing beliefs to me which I don't hold, and my last few replies have been to correct your mistakes. Either you're dishonest, or you don't have the mental capacity to understand what I'm actually saying. Either way, it's no longer fun.
@sleazybtd when people resort to ad-hominem the way you just did, it means they know they're wrong but don't want to admit it. which, ironically, is a way of admitting it. so thanks for the insults, they mean a lot to me.
"The best way to help these people is to cut off welfare and public housing. This will discourage them from having children they can't afford. If they do end up having children they can't afford, they should turn to their parents or the father of their children for financial assistance."
That's quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You think people have children they can't afford just so they can have the Govt. take care of them? Wow.
All you stupid fucking kids sitting in your parents rich houses have no fucking clue wihat its like to go without anything. You've never been without 3 meals a day, never have been without a place to sleep. Never had only one parent there to raise you and your siblings because your father is a piece of shit who runs out for some reason or another. Shut your fucking mouths, you all sound like overprivileged morons. Learns something.
@DaBamBamMan Lol wow, feeling upset there? Don't pity yourself, there's many people of different colors with similar, or equally bad problems as you did growing up. No one should pity you, you should be proud to be a stronger person...
@mictheorist Ok. that last part was a okay.About legalizing drugs to take it out of the hands of the gangs and criminals. But cutting welfare and public housing will only create a shit tone more homeless. That is possibly the worst idea ever. Take away the only place they have to live, and you take away the only thing they have left. You would have riots on your hands, not just from blacks or latino's either. They aren't the only people on wellfare. And it sure as hell wont stop them breeding.
Unfortunately he won't for two reason. One - since he was the driving force behind changing term limits for mayor, he said he was definitely going to finish out his last term. Two - in my opinion he is a bit too smart to jump into the political shit storm that is our current body politic. He knows that whoever gets elected is going to have to make tough choices that roughly half of the country is going to get amazingly angry over. It's the reason I didn't think he'd run for 2008.
@JonathanPanter unfortunately he would never win for that same reason. corporations won't donate to a candidate who prioritizes people over profits. no corporate funding=no/few political ads=opponent makes tons of mudslinging ads=the idiotic majority believes the ads instead of doing research to find out the truth and votes in the guy with more money.
3/4 of Rikers latinos go back because almost 4/4 of them are in gangs in prison to protect them. It's not that they need rehabilitation, they're blood in, blood out gangsters, maybe as a last resort, but either way, gangsters. Their gangs wont just let them smell like daisies when they get out of prison. It's back to the streets, soldier. The system is a machine that creates monsters and gives other monsters steroids. That is all.
@MarkDoesWork are you kidding? They join gangs once they get IN prison. And plenty of youth would leave their gang if they had somewhere else to go. the problem is most of them dont even have a high school diploma; they drop out and get arrested before they ever get a chance. Are you going to be the one to higher a kid w/ a record when he doesnt even have a HS degree? There is clear pipeline from our ed system to jails that need to be addressed before we do anything else.
The reality is they dont want help. They dont want to get educated and get jobs. The best thing to do is give them the assistance when they are young. But still that doesnt change their environment
@billsdynasty09 Because the system as it stands pushes the poor into self loathing and hopelessness. Early education (not pre-k but before 4th grade) and community outreach to keep students in school, convince them they are not useless and give parents the tools emotionally and physically support their children while they are in school is the only way to break this horrific cycle. This is a start.
Thats something I find unfortunate about those who have the "screw the poor, everyone for themselves" mentality, as often cooperation is the option that bests serves you as an individual. If you help each other out, it does often benefit you, and if you don't help each other out, it often costs you down the line.
Besides, I think America should really take some responsibility for the fact that it is often seen as an inspiration to many countries. Its policies influence the entire world.
"84 % of those in the city's detention facility are black or Latino"
because blacks and latinos are uncivilizable subspecies.

1) Resources are limited
2) Money spent on drop-outs is a waste
3) Better to spend resources on struggling kids who stay in school
4) Drop outs who go back to school should be welcomed back (which includes your exceptions)

Ignorant and dishonest. First you want college opportunities for HS drop-outs (which is nonsense), then you accuse me of holding people back but don't explain how, then you accuse me of being a racist then deny it.
sleazybtd 6 months ago
@sleazybtd by assuming they're all lazy you're making an excuse to not help them by addressing the cause of their laziness. people are lazy because they aren't motivated, but instead of considering ways to instill some work ethic into them, you simply dismiss them and say we should leave them to rot.
i'm dishonest? you just said you'll give people second chances, then say that drop-outs shouldn't have college opportunities.
i didn't intentionally (keyword=intent) call you racist, i apologize
Cuddlebunzzzz 6 months ago

Enjoy your dogmatic life.

NeccoWecco 6 months ago
@mictheorist Ok. that last part was a okay.About legalizing drugs to take it out of the hands of the gangs and criminals. But cutting welfare and public housing will only create a shit tone more homeless. That is possibly the worst idea ever. Take away the only place they have to live, and you take away the only thing they have left. You would have riots on your hands, not just from blacks or latino's either. They aren't the only people on wellfare. And it sure as hell wont stop them breeding.

@JonathanPanter
It's the reason I didn't think he'd run for 2008.
grausammesser 6 months ago

MarkDoesWork 6 months ago 21
@MarkDoesWork are you kidding? They join gangs once they get IN prison. And plenty of youth would leave their gang if they had somewhere else to go. the problem is most of them dont even have a high school diploma; they drop out and get arrested before they ever get a chance. Are you going to be the one to higher a kid w/ a record when he doesnt even have a HS degree? There is clear pipeline from our ed system to jails that need to be addressed before we do anything else.

The reality is they dont want help. They dont want to get educated and get jobs. The best thing to do is give them the assistance when they are young. But still that doesnt change their environment
billsdynasty09 6 months ago
@billsdynasty09 Because the system as it stands pushes the poor into self loathing and hopelessness. Early education (not pre-k but before 4th grade) and community outreach to keep students in school, convince them they are not useless and give parents the tools emotionally and physically support their children while they are in school is the only way to break this horrific cycle. This is a start.

New York is getting better and better. Same-sex marrige, helping people to get education, stoping crime...
ThePeacefulAtheistt 6 months ago
Thats something I find unfortunate about those who have the "screw the poor, everyone for themselves" mentality, as often cooperation is the option that bests serves you as an individual. If you help each other out, it does often benefit you, and if you don't help each other out, it often costs you down the line.
Besides, I think America should really take some responsibility for the fact that it is often seen as an inspiration to many countries. Its policies influence the entire world.
