  • WOW, she's nothing short of brilliant.

  • She is so talented!!!!

  • she is soooo talented

  • She blew my mind COMPLETELY

  • chinese accent was way off

  • @peachrocker1 it was actually spot on.

  • @peachrocker1 Not really.

  • I think my jaw broke

  • Wooowww..

doesn't she have a school for that !?

    :D

  • Isnt she a paki ?

  • amazingggggg!!!

  • This reminds of family guy. Where the guy recreates his youth with characters that all sound alike.. hahaha funny.

  • Sara Jones, you are my new idol!

  • amazing

  • I was actually convinced that they were entirely different people talking. Amazing!

  • what a dope chick

  • "We are never as different as the appearances may suggest"

  • All of the characters Sarah Jones portrayed were supposed to be regarded as everyday women inexperienced at providing public speeches to huge audiences. The delivery of each character, while distinct, provided a case-in-study of the "we aren't all that different from one another" school of thought. I feel that her performance, inclusive of the "like's," "um's," and "you know's," brought this message home succinctly during her brief time on stage. Ms. Jones is exquisitely brilliant.

  • @lin4lifedotcom What are those apostrophes for?

  • The first character Jones plays: Question: Is she making her hands tremble like that or are they naturally shaking?

  • Sarah Jones is Phenomenal! I adore her. She's Fabulous

  • HAHA, HER ARABIC IS GREAT!

  • Very talented, she is way underrated!

  • beautiful

  • of all the races she acts out.. as soon as she starts the asian i think "i wonder if asians are offended" haha shez so good !

  • OMG SHE IS AMAZING ! awesome talent

  • Wow

  • OMG! She sounded EXACTLY like my French teacher!

  • Brilliant!

  • Nmm her hair is on point today. What gel she be usin? Her hair is looking thick and glossy!

  • I think it's important to note that a lot of the audience is white. I felt that some of the timing of the laughter from the audience was because of that (and also because everyone comes from different backgrounds). Being a queer person of color really is difficult, and it really is associated as a white person thing. I'm glad Sarah Jones was able to reinvent herself to further educate the audience.

  • I wish she didn't say "like" and "um" and "you know" quite so much. It started to get really annoying and I started to notice that it often seemed to be more Sarah than the characters she was playing. Otherwise, she's very funny and talented.

  • @MellowCello84 the chracters she was playing couldn't speak english well... so..... u get it now

  • @FruitsP maybe you should read my comment again before you write an obnoxious response. For me, the otherwise widely varied and unique characters, many of whom do speak English well, seemed to become less distinct, and kind of annoying, when I noticed how often she was saying "like", "um", and "you know", not as a specific trait for one of the characters, but throughout regardless of what character she was playing. Do U get it now?

  • haaaahaha The second one really reminded me of my aunt.

  • @TheFranticPedantic as she said at the beginning, she is there because of the invention of her different persona's!

Anyway's gotta be said, one talented woman!

  • @nightwraithe84 Yes, definitely talented. Very clever!

  • I want to hold your hand, I want to hold your hand. LOL

  • BAHAHAHA AT THE INDIAN CHARACTER NAILED IT

  • This is entertaining, but what was the purpose of her speaking at TED?

  • @TheFranticPedantic you've kind of answered your own question there dude.

  • @TheFranticPedantic I'd be upset after paying thousands of dollars for a ticket to hear all the brilliant speakers, to then sit there through some comic relief. Granted she is extremely clever but, for me anyway, not necessary in this environment. She seemed to get a rousing response though, obviously people will disagree with me ;)

  • @TheFranticPedantic wow, you really missed the point of what her characters were saying. It wasn't just "some comic relief".

  • @philosophergrrl Hmm, obviously I did. Oh well.

  • Regi...Thank you again for this link. You have again reminded me of how much I miss the cultural cornucopia that is New York City where I grew up. I need to get back there more often.

  • @IAintOverYet - you said it... this makes me miss new york too!

  • So amazing!!!

  • sooooo beauty-full.....the world is a wonderful place and as an American i'm grateful we get to host so many cultures coming together. i'm a real American: accepting and loving to all others.

  • Thanks Regina for showing us the link for this! This was definitely a great watch especially for YouTube.

  • thumbs up if you're here because of regina

  • @Mithrohir who is regina?

  • @xaiomanga REGINA SPEKTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • unbefrigginlievable.... thumbsup!

  • amazing. truly a hilarious comedian with an inspiring message.

  • I think People Have to be able to look Pass her Comedic medium and take note

"society is more tolerant because of open minds and ideas"

"we in the global society are never as different as the appearance may suggest"

Either Way DAMN she is hilarious Love her!!!

  • Brilliant!

  • I love how she seemlessly segues into each character. Really impressive :D

  • omggggg wow she is amazing

  • I love women like this soooooo much.

  • My GODDESS!!!!.....i am laughing and crying at the same time and i am SO glad i live in a world where someone can "impersonate/make fun" of other people....lifestyles.....SHE is ME!!!!.....that's what I do onstage......i LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!!

  • Talented!

  • Gracias, Sarah! A big embrace all the way from Puerto Rico! It was a real blessing to see you LIVE in North Carolina back in 2005.

  • Phenomenal!

  • They should have had Anjelah Johnson do the Chinese part..

  • I can't get enough! I watch this all the time!

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSS! Oh heck yess! I love you, Sarah Jones! You are ON POINT!

  • LOL amazing! the pronunciation of some arabic words is wrong though :D

  • Her arabic is allmost perfect i can't believe it. so talented

  • Chinese accent from 13:00 is exactly like the way I am talking, and the lesbian daughter is really a issue, what a talented talk.

  • shes like whoopi goldberg good

i wish her all the best cannot wait to see her show in NY

  • if this is not sheer talent, i don't know what is

  • Wow! I wanted her to go on and on! She should be at TED every year.

  • she is talent!!!love her!!

  • one of the best things i watched recently!!! she's just amazing!

  • PS: it did sounds like chinese from southern China, maybe hongkong...

  • as a chinese, i have to say, her chinese accent is really great~

  • She's absolutely amazing!

  • That was beautiful.

  • i can distinguish indian accent so easily, because many many of my lecturers talk like that...

  • amazing ..I love it !!!

  • Love the french and indian accent actually the chinese one thats good 2

  • hmmm, there is no such thing called British accent, it is either English accent, Scottish accent, Welsh accent or so.

  • Place: T.E.D

    Speaker: Sarah Jones

I should tell you when i was asked to be here. and i thought to myself .what.wow.it's ted ,and it's tedters, you know, as innocent as that name sounds.

These are the ??? artist, scientist, who shape a world . What i can possibly have to say that we distinguish enough,to justify my participation or something like that .so I thought perhaps a really civilized sound in british accent might help things bear(?).

  • her chinese accent to me is like a chinese from hongkong or canton.

  • @benaparis yes.i agree with u. actually most of the chinese now pronounce better than before.

  • The last one is hilarious.

  • Queens, New York

  • her chinese accent is like... a well educated chinese-american accent lol most immigrants sound worse lol

  • I am a Chinese and I can only completely understand her with Chinese accent. That means her Chinese accent is great!

  • the second last is not a typical Chinese accent, Hongkong accent maybe

  • The German accent is not that good

  • wow amazing

  • WOW.

  • Get bent, Ted.

  • Sarah Jones is amazing. I had to look her up again after listening to The Moth podcast.

  • hilarious

  • I find it dissapointing that TED has had a slime like Clinton speaking there.

  • needs to be more tight and shorter and confident with better dialogue etc.

  • Sarah is a genius. Felt like so many people were there! All of them were great. If you like this, you should hear her poetry --- "Blood" & "This Revolution"

  • Pretty good overall, some of them were a little bit off, for e.g. the German one. But the English one was amazing, normally Americans doing English accent is a disaster. She is doing a typical English accent, I'd like to see her do a Geordie accent or a London or Liverpudlian or something.

  • brilliance

  • Da Bomb: Ha ha, hilarious!

  • damn she is good.

  • Lols, loved this.

Especially as a Chinese. Very good Chinese accent, pat down.

    And also the British one.

    Can't judge on the others.

  • she has talent but kinda feeled bored while watching it...watch Russell Peters...u will beg the difference

  • She's excellent

  • Best accent impersonations I have ever heard.

  • WOW... WoW...

  • hilarious! the dominican and chinese r my favorite!

  • hahahah this is great! very talented woman

  • ok so i think this is beautiful-shows hard work-integrity-and courage. i think its cool- rlly

  • fantastic..i love you

  • her indian english accent is awesome. Thats exactly how an indian woman speaks.

  • Great!

  • wasn't sure where she was going with this initially but a great message encapsulated in an engaging and unique monologue. bravo.

  • not only funny.....she is smokin hot

  • this was frickin awesome!

  • I wasn't so impressed with her Chinese accent the first time I watched this, but since I've been taking Chinese, my opinion of it has improved - she sounds just like my Chinese teacher.

  • Amazing

  • She is amazing. Really awesome from beginning to end

  • She's my new personal hero!

  • her french teacher imitation is SPOT ON

  • Wow. The uhs with the chinese character between pauses. The ehs with the arab character.

Every one of her characters has a unique hand motion as well. That's kinda awesome.

It's near impoosible to believe that was one person.

  • Amazing performance.I loved it.She is very talented.I wish I could do that.I may practice now.

  • Man, all her accents are spot on.

  • She is brilliant !

  • .....god damnit.

  • Comment removed

  • She is amazing!!!

  • She's absolutely brilliant. That was unbelievalble.

  • Her Asian accent is better than the impersonations I do of my mother!

  • Being of Dominican descent and living in Washington Heights I must say that her impersonation of the Dominican woman from Washington Heights was very inaccurate (to say the least)... The moment she began to speak the first thing that came to mind was Jennifer Lopez which is Puerto Rican and nothing close to Dominican.

  • remarkable

  • Awesome.

  • she was getting a yogurt in the google cafe, isn't that adorable?

  • i didn't get why that was supposed to be funny?

  • Ohhhh myyy god...what a talent she has?wonderful...bravo....excellent.

  • She's absolutely wonderful and spot-on with her observations call it whatever you want, it is what it is and for me, it's real.

  • If I didnt know that she was joking, I would think that she was a multiple personality woman.

  • That's such a stupid observation. she invented characters with certain traits that you clearly project onto your preconceived stereotypes. she even said they were based on on people she knew from her real life. Her friends have accents, so it's a racist performance? That makes no sense at all.

  • she sounds like my bubbe

  • Ether genius or extremely raciest... maybe both. I loved it!

She got the chinese accent down perfect, sounds just my ex-gf.
