All of the characters Sarah Jones portrayed were supposed to be regarded as everyday women inexperienced at providing public speeches to huge audiences. The delivery of each character, while distinct, provided a case-in-study of the "we aren't all that different from one another" school of thought. I feel that her performance, inclusive of the "like's," "um's," and "you know's," brought this message home succinctly during her brief time on stage. Ms. Jones is exquisitely brilliant.
I think it's important to note that a lot of the audience is white. I felt that some of the timing of the laughter from the audience was because of that (and also because everyone comes from different backgrounds). Being a queer person of color really is difficult, and it really is associated as a white person thing. I'm glad Sarah Jones was able to reinvent herself to further educate the audience.
I wish she didn't say "like" and "um" and "you know" quite so much. It started to get really annoying and I started to notice that it often seemed to be more Sarah than the characters she was playing. Otherwise, she's very funny and talented.
@FruitsP maybe you should read my comment again before you write an obnoxious response. For me, the otherwise widely varied and unique characters, many of whom do speak English well, seemed to become less distinct, and kind of annoying, when I noticed how often she was saying "like", "um", and "you know", not as a specific trait for one of the characters, but throughout regardless of what character she was playing. Do U get it now?
@TheFranticPedantic I'd be upset after paying thousands of dollars for a ticket to hear all the brilliant speakers, to then sit there through some comic relief. Granted she is extremely clever but, for me anyway, not necessary in this environment. She seemed to get a rousing response though, obviously people will disagree with me ;)
Regi...Thank you again for this link. You have again reminded me of how much I miss the cultural cornucopia that is New York City where I grew up. I need to get back there more often.

These are the ??? artist, scientist, who shape a world . What i can possibly have to say that we distinguish enough,to justify my participation or something like that .so I thought perhaps a really civilized sound in british accent might help things bear(?).

Most accents were excellent, but German accent wasn't close at all; she just made the "th" into "z" and the "r" into a throat sound. There is a bit more to the German accent than that...
Chinese accent also wasn't very good - grammar was too perfect, and words that were usually cut short were not.
Sarah is a genius. Felt like so many people were there! All of them were great. If you like this, you should hear her poetry --- "Blood" & "This Revolution"
Pretty good overall, some of them were a little bit off, for e.g. the German one. But the English one was amazing, normally Americans doing English accent is a disaster. She is doing a typical English accent, I'd like to see her do a Geordie accent or a London or Liverpudlian or something.
I wasn't so impressed with her Chinese accent the first time I watched this, but since I've been taking Chinese, my opinion of it has improved - she sounds just like my Chinese teacher.
