  • i love it! the only thing i can say is that next time, make sure the camera angle is more straight-on so we get a feel of how it should look while we're doing it in the mirror. (:

  • @thespasticpanda tee hee...'next time' as in 200 videos ago? ;-) Just kidding...back then, this was my only option for camera set-up. Hopefully my current set up is more helpful?

  • @LisaFreemontStreet hehe whoops! i didnt bother looking at the date or anything haha i kinda just watched the video. but yes, much better. ;)

  • Most pin up hair styles use actual pin curls.

The angle was too extreme to really see what you were doing.

Think I'll stick to Cherry Dollface for my hairstyling needs.

Oh and you bitching back and forth with some chick really doesn't make people like you anymore.

  • @coleile01 I'm trying not to be offended by this comment since you obviously have not viewed my other videos which are based almost entirely on authentic vintage techniques. This was not meant to be one of those looks so it looks as though I succeedeed in that. Also, Cherry and I are friends so I'm happy that you are a fan of her videos...she'll get a kick out of this comment. :)

  • I love it! You look gorgeous doll :) what is the song thats playing??? Love that too :)

  • What happened to just the wedge?

  • @Enterthedeath not sure what you are talking about...shall I guess?

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Seems like "psychobilly girls" just don't get wedges anymore.

  • @Enterthedeath Where would the fun in that be? Variety is the spice of life...thank goodness not all vintage girls wear a poodle fluff. :)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet No, just bobs, rolls, and bangs. Just saying more rockabilly than psychobilly... Dypsomaniaxe hairstyles or more of what I'm talking about. I don't really like talking to people at shows unless they can talk about something other then Horror pops and Nekromantix. Or the worst the hands on the hips and looking like your having contractions standing up. Last night when I saw that I almost rolled on the floor laughing..

  • @Enterthedeath You are a snob, in other words. :)

I don't believe there is any look that I begrudge people for wearing...other than MAYBE pajamas in public. But as far as hairstyling and dancing...people can pretty much do what they want. It's fine with me. This is a very popular hair style among the 'self proclaimed Psychobilly' crowd; which is why I entitled this video what I did.

  • @LisaFreemontStreet I'm aloud to be a snob.... It's not a case of my music is better then yours or even fashion really. I find most of those people to be fashion craved window lickers. I always see one or two looking to "get with" the band members after who would rather avoid this people and go talk to real fans.

  • @Enterthedeath I never said you werent. :) But your opinion obviously matters as little as my own...so why sweat it? And as to your last comment...I know some of those guys...and most of the time they're not nearly so anxious to avoid those clean, pretty, young 'posers' as you might think. Sure they like to talk to the real fans...but the real fans aren't wearing tight Hot Topic tank tops and smelling like vanilla.

  • @LisaFreemontStreet AHAHAHA!

"Sure they like to talk to the real fans...but the real fans aren't wearing tight Hot Topic tank tops and smelling like vanilla". Best thing I think I've ever read in the history of youtube.

  • You remind me of Sarah Blackwood from The Creepshow :)...awesome tutorial! thanks.

  • love the hair and make up and social d at the end <3

  • I really love the hairstyle ^^

  • what brand hot rollers do u use?

  • Oh I dye my hair more often than i change panties lol jk But i do dye it once every two months (I'm currently a very unnatural bright red) so I'm bound to die from cancer lol

  • Omg i sure hope that cancer thing isn't true i dye my hair more often than i change my panties lol jk but i dye my hair once every two months (I'm unnaturally bright red at the moment lol) I'ma get cancer for sure lol

  • I can't seem to get my hot rollers to work well enough in my hair, I just got them so I kinda need practice, but is there any advice you could give me? I love this style but I just have a really hard time curling my hair and putting it up like in this video.

  • @HeatherxHazard See my video entitled 'how I roll'...

  • Scary Song Lol

  • hello,

i love your videos and always look forward to new ones. I was wondering though, is it safe to use hairspray everyday??? I read somewhere it puts you at risk for cancer along with hair dye too

  • @pookinapooky If you made a list of the things that put us 'at risk of cancer', life would be very dull indeed. :) That said, I do not believe that using hairspray could be viewed as dangerous unless you use an extremely large amount or you have no ventilation when using it.

  • Hey I love this video so thank youu so much for putting it up! but i was wondering who sings the first song that plays... I guess it's a remake from Bugsy Malone... thanks

  • @VileCherryDoll yes it's the Legendary Shack Shakers version of 'Down and Out'. :)

  • you are very pretty.lol i was wondering if there is any way to do this look without hot rollers?

  • @jujidancer Sure. You can use a curling iron if you have one. You do need some curls in there though, to give the hair volume. Unless your hair is naturally curly, of course.

  • @bear62able You'll need to send me a picture of the look you're after then. As long as I've been familiar w/ the look, this is what was being discussed...this is an amped up version but the technique is the same. I'll be happy to attempt any style you like.

  • Im always afraid to spray my hair when they are in the rollers. Don't the rollers get yucky? Also I have fine hair and have heard of people using dry shampoo to add volume before styling...have you ever tried this? Your videos are awesome and Im glad I discovered them. :)

  • @memphismom74 No they don't get any more yucky that if you spray the sections ahead of time. Plus, they're easy to clean if you don't get the kind that are flcked in velvet. Dry Shampoo does add volume but also tends to look chalky and white if you add heat on top of it. :) Depends on the brand, I guess.

  • @bear62able these are kitten ears.

  • You pout alot

  • @Collossus212 way to state the obvious! :) It's a thinking thing...everyone has their thinking face.

  • Hey whats that first song played in your video?

  • what about the meteors??????

  • @mossopp91 errrr, what about them?

  • @nocountjew theyre the best psychobilly band ever, make a hairstyle that they used! ON THE DOUBLE WOMAN!

  • @mossopp91 see you could have said that in your first comment and allayed alot of confusion. ;-) I do like them ...

  • i agree with babydonblysh, you are the best guru on youtube for giving really detailed hair tutorials :]

  • @misterfreehugs thanks!

  • I really love the way you style your hair, but you pout soo much! haha its not a bad thing just off putting

  • @xMizzJonesx I think all of us have our little 'foibles' when we are styling ourselves. Whether it's opening our mouths when we put on mascara or frowning when we're doing something difficult. Thankfully, not all of us have an audience when we're applying our makeup or doing our hair. To those of who have chosen to put ourselves 'out there' for the sake of teaching others, we can only be thankful that most viewers overlook those faults and can still manage to learn a thing or two. ;-)

  • LIKE UR PIN UP TUTORIAL UR MAKEUP DOES LOOK NICE HOPE U MAKE MORE VIDEOS ^_^

  • this was a great tutorial....I'm so glad you took the time to create this

  • You're seriously one of the best "vintage" hair instructors on youtube. I can't believe people actually give you negative comments.

  • @babydontblush lol...me either! Not because I'm 'the best' but because I'm so darn nice! LOL Thanks for your compliments.

  • I absolutely love this :)

  • Cool hair. But your makeup looks like crap, whoever did it.

  • @EYEwantKANDY really? I like it. Did it myself. Thanks for your constructive criticism. :)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet I think the make up goes really well with the style

  • I love the look, and the tutorial is an easy one I have to try it, thank you... also what color is your hair? is it a copper tone?

  • @kittenluve68 yes, it is always at variations of red. :) Thanks!

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Thank you:)

  • who sings that version of down and out?

  • @shaggz02si The Legendary Shack Shackers...

  • I do love your videos, but I'm having trouble with this one where you twist and pin the sections on the top, could you do it a bit slower with a shot from the back maybe please, I'm terrible with my hair and just learning to be creaative thanks to your inspiration and beautiful styles, keep up the good work x

  • @theknittinggal I did a variation of the 'Kitten ears' in my 'Modern Kitten' video too...but in this one I believe I used combs instead of pins, initially. The pins were only a supplement. I'll attempt to do this one again...

  • @nocountjew sorry about that! the nocountjew comment was Lisa Freemont Street under my husband's id!

  • i don't think the angle you use in your videos is the best one to demonstrate hair styles. we see up your nose and arm pits alot

  • @amwalper Armits are a necessary evil no matter where the camera is, especially for styling one's own hair. :-/ That said, this was the only set up I had at the time, which was, as you can see, 11 months ago. Perhaps you should check out my recent videos since the set up has greatly improved.

  • Never mind, I didn't realize someone had already asked that question I apologize for the repeat and found the answer on my own :D Amazing video however

  • I was wondering if you could tell me where you found this version of down and out?

  • my favorite of yours so far!! :D you look great

  • What type/brand of hot rollers do you use in this video? And for beginners, are they easy to use? Thanks for all of your awesome tutorials! :)

  • @LullabyeLaura They are Remington hot rollers I got back in the 90's. Yes they're easy to use but this particular is no longer for sale. You can find something similar at Wal mart or your local department store, I'm sure.

  • @LullabyeLaura I have some remington hotrollers that i bought in december. there are 30 of em and come in three sizes. they are extremely easy to use, i bought them without ever using them once. i highly recommend to have a set. i bought mine at target and i'm pretty sure they still have them :D

  • @yocorrocontrajeras Okay, thanks a lot! :D

  • @LullabyeLaura you're very welcome! I hope you find a good set!

  • woooo psychobilly :D hav u been to ne good psychobilly or rockabilly shows lately :P

  • fail

  • @lleanamarie care to be a bit more constructive in your criticism? If not, keep it to yourself please.

  • can u make a 50s hairstyles for me please?

  • at 7:03 I think you look like Kathy Griffin. Its a compliment 'cuz i think shes beautiful! :)

  • i really really think you look great with your hair like that :)

  • love it going to try it many hugs

  • i LUKd and nothing came up.. not even on myspace.. Girr imma have to try different ways then.. hmm.. thx hun ( =

  • @uneekz1 it's on their album 'Swampblood'...the whole album is great.

  • oh and love the hairstyles ( =

  • this song is not coming up any where are you sure its called that..?

  • @uneekz1 The first song is "down and out' by the Legendary Shack Shakers...I own the album ; it is called that. the 2nd song is Sick Boy by Social Distortion.

  • Legendary Shack Shakers. I saw them at Ink And Iron and LA LA LOVED them.

  • You look great, and what is the website for the extensions again?

  • @Ilvanime45 I don't believe I gave one. but Jody talks about it in the link in the sidebar...she makes her own.

  • wow, i wish my hair was that easy to work with lol

  • Your bangs look great swept to the side!

  • u have a beatiful voice, gal! luv ur tips...

    THANX!

    xoxo

  • who's the music by? i love it!

  • i love it! and i also like the song you picked out.

  • wow your damn fine :)

  • I'll try my best,,

  • i love it! i also love the color of your hair! you're really beautiful and thanks for making wonderful videos.

  • Can this style also be used for girls with long hair and no bangs? or something similar to this?

  • Yes certainly...you can do a faux bang or just a large pincurl in the front would work. W/out some type of softening feature in the front though, it will look like Gary Oldman as Bram Stoker's Dracula. :)

  • You look beautiful! The hair and make up melt together like butter on toast.

  • great tutorial :]

it will go nicely with my bettie bangs

  • Hey whats this song called?

  • See annotations.

  • Hey Lisa, Love this look, it almost kind of looks like you have "horns" LOL! This also reminds me of Poison Ivy from the Batman movie, you kind of resemble Uma Thurman in this. I love this look! :)

  • Love ur hair red!! This style is my fav on u so far!

  • Thats Rockabilly not Psychobilly, i should know.

  • You can see that there is a backslash between Psychobilly and 'edgy pin up'. The reason for this is that the term Psychobilly (as it applies to style, not music) is subjective and debatable. Psychobilly Girls do tend to wear retro hairstyles that have been amped up a bit, which is what this was meant to represent. As for your statement that this is a Rockabilly style, I think you'd find that many gals who 'know' that style, would beg to differ. :)

  • I'm not knocking it just saying that its not Psychobilly in style, saying that it may be these days but it certainly wasnt years ago and i am one of "those gals who knows"

  • Actually, this style (as sported by Micheline in the photos) is a derivative of that worn by the women of Russ Meyer films and I have actually seen this look worn as early as 1983, in a Meteors fan photo, when I researched the look. But I certainly don't begrudge you your opinion.

  • Too much fighting went on at Meteors gig's for anyone to wear their hair like that from what i remember lol! It was far more popular for girls especially me and my friends to have the big pointed quiff look. It seem's today that the pin-up look is far more popular than back in the 80's is really all i'm saying. Anyhow i'm really not knocking your stuff its great that you've posted it, keep up the good work!

  • love the hair but wish your camera was up a little more so i could see how you did your hair better.

  • I have nowhere else to put it. The text description should help, though. :)

  • Gorgeous! Goin' out this weekend. Gonna try it!

  • abso pony trap..

  • LOL...I looked this up. Evidently this means 'rubbish' and 'of poor quality'? Gee, thanks. :)

  • what if you dont have a heat lamp?

  • heat lamp?

  • georgous

  • you did great ! can somebody please tell me the name of the first song ??

  • Down and Out by the Legendary Shackshakers

there wasn't an annotation or anything to say it but it was mentioned in previous comments.

  • thank you very much , and sorry I missed it in the previous comments

  • Comment removed

  • ???

  • you are so pretty.I totally rocked this at a vintage prom party. thank you so much!

  • i liiiiiiiiiiiiike

  • Dig the hair! I think you are so cute when youre doing your hair.

  • you looked crazy 80's there for a second. haha

  • I recreated this look the best I could today and I love it! Thanks so much for the tutorial, Ashley! ^^

  • yees,good colour and music :)

  • is the best hairstyle of pin up n_n i see

  • what is the song called

    thanks

  • See annotations.

  • wow i like it :)

wat was the first song being played before social distortion O.o

  • Down and Out by the Legendary Shackshakers...I believe there is an annotation.

  • Would this work with short hair?

(My hair comes about to my neck.)

  • Not w/ the same amount of volume but yes.

  • Hi! i love your video, and i was wondering if you can explain a little bit slower the "kitten ears" please!!! thanks =]

  • I'll try to do another tutorial but I usually speed it up for time purposes. This is actually quite a simple style, you twist down, push forward, apply comb. That's about it.

  • can you do this style if you dont have bangs? mine are the length of my hair.. and do you have to use combs or can you just use bobby pins?

  • Yes you can...just pin them up along w/ the 'kitten ears'. And yes, you can just use bobby pins but the combs make it easier. And they're only like, a dollar a pair! :)

  • what do they call does little girl from back then with curls and stuff

  • I don't understand your question.

  • haha um well you know the old sun block with the little girl and that dog is there more of those pics? hmm i have no idea how to explain

  • Oh, old pin up art? You can google Joyce Ballentyne and you'll see more of her work. :)

  • That's the pic on the Coppertone bottle...i think?

  • Yeah, it is. I' not sure what brought that up on this video? heh heh.

  • One thing I don't like about these tutorials is that you never get to see what goes on at the back of the head, so I miss important bits like rolling and tucking that top section in.

  • Hmmm, are you the one that gave a thumbs down to the comment above you? That's kinda sad, if so. :( Anyway, I would love to show you what I'm doing in the back...now that I have a new set up, perhaps I can do that. I didnt have a mirror behind me so there was no way to do that before.

  • No, it wasn't me. Sorry if it sounded like I was having a go at you in particular - that's definitely not what I was trying to do. I'd appreciate seeing the 'do from a rear angle. I never used to play with my hair when I was young - it was either in a ponytail, a plait or just hanging down - so i've got a lot of catching up to do. Cheers!

  • Absolutely GORGEOUS!

yours is truly one of the best hair

    tutorials I've seen!

    Thanx!! =)

  • OHMYGOODNESS! You did it, I didnt think you would.

Thank you, you did a stellar job!

  • Were you the one that requested this? I couldnt remember...anyway, it's been a while since I did this one. :)

  • Yeah, thanks again. Sorry i didnt comment sooner i recently chopped off a lot of my hair so i havent

checked in but its growing mighty fast

    cant wait to try it!

  • thank you so much for posting this! i tried the look last night and it was a hit, and it was easy (ish) to do! usually i suck badly at doing these hair tutorials!! many many thanks again!

  • you look amazing with the rollers. just throw on somes heels. lol

  • wow you look like a mermaid :P pretty good tutorial :P I'll do this hair style for my new music video! THANKS!!

  • ur really pretty!:) and ur awesome!

  • i love this :)

  • THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!

  • What hot rollers do you use? Do you always use clips?

  • wats the songs name

  • The first one is 'Down and Out' by the Legendary Shackshakers. The 2nd one is 'Sick Boy' by Social Distortion.

  • Oooo now i've seen it! It actually looks REALLY GOOD. Who would've thought! Okay, I'll stop my comment bombardment now :D

  • Oh dear, i'm going to have to watch all your hairstyle tutorials!! I'm also a big fan of those kind of retro rockabilly type hairstyles.. unfortunately I got Bettie Page bangs not too long ago, and now i'm pretty limited with my hairstyles (note to self: NEVER GET BANGS) but I will try! I'm amazed at how many you have, and I think you explain very well so thank you!!

  • That was super awesom....i just cut my hair and now have bangs and this will be a great look! Thanks Lisa

  • social distortion, nice!

  • Btw, Shackshakers rock, thank for reminding me how much I like them.

  • OMG!!! I love this song!!!! Bugsy Malone Rulz!!! Who did this??? love love love it!!! and i always love your tuts!!!!

  • That's the Legendary Shackshakers...hot, isnt it?

  • very hot...

  • Hi there dawlin, love the new vid. Very well done. I think this is a great look to do anytime, you can tame it a bit for daytime looks, too. putting the fringe to the side is great for people who are growing theirs out, like me. I love doing both super short and longer bang looks, the between stage sucks, haha. What's next......which style should I do for convention? ttyl-xo

  • When is yours? Mine is this weekend. :)

  • I really hope you'll post some pics on FB of your convention hair and makeup. I need fresh ideas for mine. Ours is the last weekend in July and is in San Fransisco. I know I for sure want an up do for a least one of the days (cause it'll be warm there). So let me know what you think. ttyl-xo

  • It won't me anything special probably. Too humid for all day styles in this heat! I reserve my good hair for my tutorials and for Vegas...no humidity! LOL

  • yeah today I melted most of my face off in sevice.

  • i do that sometiems with my ahir its fun i loved this one!
