Eh In a sense perhaps, maybe more so in today's day in age, but in the past it was a way to reach Nirvana in a sense, and to understand that everyone lives and experiences the same as you do. People with power just had distorted interpretations of it. And in doing so over 6 million people died in recorded history. So Christianity is a Utopian ideal, but I don't see how it can be justified as a way to lead your life, when so many horrific things have been done in the name of Christianity.

I've read the Bible for years and years. I've never come across any verse that can be used to say that there's original sin. Adam and Eve where kicked out for what they did and their children were then born into a hard life. It doesn't logically follow that their children were then born sinners. Anyway, I think the idea of original sin came after Christ with the formation of the Catholic Church a long time after. To be altruistic is good to an extent but there's a limit. It's how I see it.
Regadless of if you believe Christianity is false or true, you still need to admit that Christ's methods for dealing with the power hungry, the averous, the greedy, etc. were admirable. What he said about how you should live your life was also admirable. His example provided a prototype (not the only one as Ghandi's life shows) for many non-violent movements. However it is sad that many (most?) Christians really don't follow what he said.

Altruism has no correlation with Christianity. Need proof? Go to any large Church to see how many homeless people they shelter. About zero. See what kind of cars the Pastors drive. You could say that humans were very tribal at first, and therefor the parents would be too... but then its more of a cultural issue.
I think its more likely that just human culture started out tribal like apes are.
