Marpessa was one of the best of that decade, few today can compare to her. She reminds me of Dalma, who had one of the best walks ever. Though Marpessa is dutch her looks were so exotic for the time. Too bad the American magazines didn't give her much work.
It was like all the models had to step up their walk if she was in the show so they wouldn't look dead by comparison . Todays models could learn a lot from her.
She's Dutch. She was a very successful runway model in the late 80s and early 90s. She modeled for many of the major designers (Chanel, Versace, Valentino, Calvin Klein, Oscar De La Renta, Claude Montana, Dolce & Gabbana, etc)...
Ah, yes, . . and there is Marpessa Hennink, one of the most stunning runway models during her time. Like Ines Dela Fressange , their runway gestures and manner of presenting the clothing they wore exuded class and aristocracy.
One thing nice about female models during the MH's time was that they had their own distinction. You can tell them apart . You know if its Pat or Iman. Nowadays, they look all the same . . and robotic on the runway. (and their getting thinner)
Yes they had personality and their own style, and like you said these days they look like 13/14 year olds that are starving themselves, SAD, i'm not as much into it as i would normally be (Fashion) it's truly lacking these days!
Elsa Klench did a bang up profile of her for Style with Elsa Klench. Had great music and an interview that was really cool.

i love marpessa! she was known more for being a runway model than an editorial model. she rocked it each time on the catwalk

I'm trying to find the clip of Marpessa on Elsa Klench's style that was a super fun clip, with great music.

yes, you can dress marpessa in a potato sack and put a paper bag over her head and still you can recognize her from a mile away by the way she struts

Love Marpessa, she was so adorable and quirky on the runway, i often wondered what her ethnic make up was.
I loved her in Lagerfeld's Spring '88 show she looked so adorable in the clothes he chose for her. . . .
