  • Bach! Rest in peace in God's arms

  • Das Lied in Evangelion hat aber gar nichts mit diesem hier von Bach zu tun! Das in Evangelion basiert auf einem Gedicht, welches lange nach Bach verfasst wurde!

  • @stoogy5 cue the CSI episode where the beib gets pelted.

    @resinsoft same here

    @douchebagChocolate Same

@Justinbeiberforking what kind of name has a singer with "forking" on the end of it?! XD he be forking you for being such a mindless brainwash.

@bach sweet song, mr. composer of olde.

  • I heard Warfield in a live concert in Reading, PA, in which he sang a vocal setting of Danse Macabre, which I never knew existed until that night. His rendition was absolutely stunning. Wonder whether he ever recorded this number. It was truly "special." Time was around 1960.

  • So, who else clicked on this because they love Evangelion?

  • @DouchebagChocolat I did.

  • @ClassicalManiac777

Well shit, now we gotta be friends.

  • @DouchebagChocolat I guess so. "goes and accepts friend request"

  • @DouchebagChocolat

i tracked to bach about 5 years ago because evangelion......

  • @resinsoft

    Same same :D

  • @DouchebagChocolat evangelion was supposed to have this and a number of other classical selections in it, but the production studio did not allow the director to go through with it. They thought it would "confuse" the viewer if an anime opened with prince igor's polovstian dance... along with all the other classical songs he projected onto the show. Play a recording of Bach's version where the "Evangelion" version starts in evangelion, and it actually fits the animation. It's no coincidence! ^_^

  • He's okay, but he ain't no Justin Bieber!

  • @justinbieberforking, who the hell cares?!!!!!

  • @justinbieberforking Trollin'!

  • @justinbieberforking That´s why it´s so good asshole.

  • I'm german and i want death to be as late as possible...

I like Warfield's voice but in my opinion he's not the right

one to interpret bach peaces. The tremolo, the broad singing -

that's not how it was meant to be sung in barock times. It was

recorded in the 60s, when musicology was on a much lower

level than today. Let's take it as an independent piece of art,

    lean back and enjoy it.

  • @DereinsamePoet, i'm a native English speaker. I also happen to speak German. It does obset me when ESL speakers criticise others, when they're in the same situation. Mr. Warfield did an awesome job! Bach's dead! And, I'm sure he'd be proud that his work touched so many. Listen and enjoy or just don't listen at all!!!!!

  • What a rich voice!

  • unfortunately it is not on CD :(

  • Absolutely marvellous voice - and (to be an american singer) acceptable pronouncing.

  • Warfield at his best -- RIP --

  • wonderful-- does anyone know if this recording ( I assume at Riverside) is available on compact disc?

  • try Rhapsody and burn your own copy!

  • Great voice! I think that Bach himself Bach himself would be surprised.

Komm, süßer Tod, komm selge Ruh!

    Komm führe mich in Friede,

Weil ich der Welt bin müde,

Ach komm! ich wart auf dich,

    Komm bald und führe mich,

    Drück mir die Augen zu.

    Komm, selge Ruh!

  • Germans even complain about death not being punctual enough=0

  • Hahaha! Now that's the best one I've heard in a while.

  • How lucky to get to sing with Virgil Fox, huh?

  • How lucky that Virgil Fox got to play for William Warfield!

  • I never knew baritone could sound that good and that a vocal version of this piece, Come Sweet Death, existed.

  • tremendous

  • I wonder where this was recorded? Riverside?
