Communism works in theory but the states that tried it never got it to work right, they always seemed to need an "elite" class (with elite stores and apartments and so on…). Lenin was first a socialist but he was too radical even for them, they threw him out (Bolsheviks - Mensheviks). There are however, several socialist countries that have made a pretty good go at it.

1) How about a ever changing (possibly random) elected official. And not one person to be a "president" but a whole team of these elected officials to make decisions. The force and violence problems can be neglected now.
2) This one is harder. Because to succesfully obtain prosperity the system needs to do it better than the competition. So i propose a "reward system".

DImwit, first of all, people with higher incomces do pay higher taxes. Secondly, by trying to equalize the outcome afterwards you end up in the very reason why all communist countries failed completely as an economic system. You remove the economic incentive why people work hard to have higher income in the first place, you complete fool. Hence you end up with POVERTY for everybody.
And this reward system "rewards" either the individual or the group of people for a job done well. Shouldn't this also solve the problem of laziness? And offcourse non of these solutions are ideal, but my point is that it CAN be solved. Wheter it SHOULD be solved is another question. The system we have now is fine, you only need to manipulate less for gain of money but more for education and good morals.

Socialism and Communism have always essentially meant direct workers' control. Dictatorship is the direct consequence of the suppression of freedom, and is the direct opposite of Socialism. Communism is thinkable once people free themselves from oppression, exploitation, and tyranny.

Communism works in theory but the states that tried it never got it to work right, they always seemed to need an "elite" class (with elite stores and apartments and so on…). Lenin was first a socialist but he was too radical even for them, they threw him out (Bolsheviks - Mensheviks). There are however, several socialist countries that have made a pretty good go at it.

2) This one is harder. Because to succesfully obtain prosperity the system needs to do it better than the competition. So i propose a "reward system".

Secondly, by trying to equalize the outcome afterwards you end up in the very reason why all communist countries failed completely as an economic system. REAL Socialist Democracy must be acheived, NOT Stalinism or Maoism, these are regimes that support systematic oppression and are borderline Fascist. People could one day rise up without bloodshed and reinvent the system to benefit every individual. Co-operation not Competition!

Soviet Union killed 61,000,000 people, people that did not think as them or spoke against to goverment, there was no elections and the death rate was high in Soviet, much because of the Communists, The soviet union was more evil than Nazi Germany, and they where horrible... Tyranny is Communism, oppression is Communism, today just look at china or North Korea, in China if you say protest 2 times in the phone it shuts down the call, oh and they kill protesters. @rabies79 Actually communism and socialism have next to nothing to do with the totalitarian societies you just described. PRK, Stalinist USSR and especially China, all of which were/are totalitarian states, have closely collaborated with the globalized capitalist world. Right now, the United States owes China more than $2,000,000,000,000 USD in debt. These totalitarian states lack equality, humanity and democracy, all of which are part of both socialism and communism. Your argument is invalid =)

@okgrunberg there are different kinds of communism, like Stalinism or Leninism, both are totalitarian, and many others, the living standars where and are much much worse in comunist contries and the freedom of speech practicly did not exist and practicly does not exist there, it is true that USA owe allot of money to China. But we have seen and we can see if we look closly at communism and socialism that it will never work... your argument is invalid, just read my previous comment or read info.

@mlk22771 A command economy in a world dominated by a market economy don't mix... And they all prospered. Russia went from being backwards technologically and economically, They are much more modern now.. China is an economic giant, the sorry ass United States would be in another 1930's without all of China's loans. Cuba having a low crime rate, better healthcare, and better education. And Cuba nor any of them truly are completely communist. If they were they would be better off.

People don't understand that the homeless and people under poverty in capitalist nations are not choosing to be poor. If capitalism had such economic mobility why do most people born into rags stay in them? If a problem is widespread enough we can't just blame the individual we have to question how our society allows for it to happen.

@mlk22771 completely relevant. Specially because of the socio-political situations in both countries were VERY different. You don't "vote" communism in like an american election, that's the whole point, to get rid of the system. voting is simply a sham bc. none of the candidates represents the people. The russian revolution suffered a degradation during and after the civil war but the 1917 victory was a workers victory. You can read it in any half serious book that talks about it.

USSR was not Socialist, nor communist. They proclaimed themselves ''socialist'' and ''communist', yet they were simply pretending to be so. In fact, the USA used this to an advantage. By utilizing propaganda smear campaigns, presenting the USSR as an example of ''Communism'' and ''Socialism' to discredit the Ideology. The USSR was simply a highly centralized authoritarian state, more so under Stalin.
Same goes for every other regime, that called itself ''Socialist'' in the 20th century.

So now you know that Communism is not same as Socialism, just a branch of it. So if anyone says that Socialism do not work, he doesn't probably know what he/she is talking about, usualy he/she means actualy Commusnism instead of Socialism but he/she just don't know it.

In 1956, 2,500 Hungarians died fighting for what they believed in, and this is how they are repaid? By having an anthem for an ideology they died fighting against sung in they're own language. The revolution was led by a Marxist named Imre Nagy who wanted to make Hungary a state that adhered to the liberties and principals Marx and Lenin dream't to achieve. He wanted his country free from Soviet tyranny and create a totally independent and sovereign state similar to Tito's Yugoslavia but governed by a democratic multi-party state. The Hungarian Revolution was led by students and partisans and they died for a country not free of socialism but of Russian hegemony.
