  • Try putting soap in the water. If they're floating by surface tension, they should sink because soap breaks surface tension.

  • Just watching this makes my skin prickle.

  • Would soapy water make them break surface?

  • How did i get here from cake tutorials?

  • I hate the new thumbs up noise.

  • drop bleach on the water to break the surface tension.

  • The ones on the bottom are undoubtedly black lol. Just kidding

  • The is a reason the called "Fire ants" Kill them with fire!!!!!

  • You should put weights on them, slowly increasing from 1 gram++ and see how much they can carry xD

  • I once saw a salamander peeing in a lightbulb... Or maybe it was just fucking it...

  • ants make the perfect communists

  • Drop an ant eating spider on em }:)

  • how about juz put them in sweet water... imagine they drank all up.^^

  • it looks like they're on some kind of "jelly" stuff surface...so disgusting

  • Tricky, but I finally managed to masturbate to this video.

  • im itching again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you idiot, make a tsunami with your hand on the water

  • PLACE AN ICE CUBE ON IT.

  • pesky little ants won't die!!

  • What happen if its not water, but hydrochloric acid instead ?

  • Is it hard to sink them? Like how much force must you use?

  • so do the bottom ants drown?

  • Do they start to eat each other eventually like humans stuck on a raft?

  • Why the "PHUCK" Did the Jappanesse not Do this on March 11th This 2011!

  • imagine swimming and hitting that !

  • what if you slowly heat up the water will they bail?

  • Pee on them.

  • The one dislike is an ant

  • ants are way cooler than we give them credit for. Don't disrespect the ant!

  • I realy find this kinda scarry...

  • @alyssa71808 they form air bubbles on the bottom to keep them from drowning

  • my only question is. How the fuck do we kill them?

  • wonder if a person in a metal suit can sit on a giant raft made of these ants ;0

  • y am i so interested in this??

  • you need to break the water tension with some surfactant like soap.

  • I really wanted to see how they were floating on the top of boiling water. .

  • dude seriously this is awesome :O nice quallity too!

  • Would there be enough surface tension if you put a drop or two of dishwashing soap in the water? Try this in a pool, everything falls and you can vacuum it all up without having to skim as much.

  • I noticed this at home.. although the ants I saw weren't fire ants. They were a less aggressive variety. I should have made a video of that...

  • ''Great, I build my house on a lake to avoid ants... and now this''

  • just curious, do any ants sacrifice their lives in the process?

  • It took awhile... but I finally managed to masturbate to this video.

  • it would suck if a fish came along

  • Stick your hand in it.

  • teamwork.. it is astounding

  • YEs, i got an idea..i wanna make an ant biscuit. i would use first pour maple syrup over them, and then blowtorch them..then eat it..ooo yea...lots of nutrition. damn..thanks for the vid. thumbs up

  • omg theyre walking on water,

    Maybe Jesus was an ant!!

  • @JamieA242 no, jesus was a Magician

  • @JamieA242 -_- Maybe

  • @JamieA242 Hahahahahahha!

  • a little light music woulda been nice!!!! ;)

  • @whitiedave Kenny G perhaps?

  • What happens if you just drop them in randomly scattering them across the top of the water...do they find one another and join up to make the raft then?

  • @moron32 i think they do join up to make a raft. You can even drop fire ants from different colonies and they'll still come together to form a raft... or so that I somewhat recall from my AP Environmental Science studies this past month xD

  • i think I saw a jesus ant

  • Neat footage!

I wonder... have you noticed if the ants "on top" of the raft ever exchange positions with those who have contact with the water? Do they jobshare?!

  • @FractalInfinities They do exchange positions occasionally but only at the edges of the raft where an ant could be freed up.

  • @antlabGT Interesting! So is there a rotation from the underside towards the outside edges and up "onto" the raft?

Thanks for these vids and your research!

  • @FractalInfinities Your welcome! No such rotation. Only an exchange at the edges so that the ratio between top and bottom ants remains pretty much constant.

  • @antlabGT That's kind of surprising! Thanks for your answers!

  • @antlabGT I hope this isnt a dumb question, but dont the ants stuck on the underside 'drown' per say? Since they dont rotate or anything?

  • @antlabGT your life seems almost pointless.
