my girlfriend who I've been dating for a long time just broke up with me this morning, with no warning... I just had the sudden urge to listen to a Dream Theater ballad, so I listened to this song while I flipped through pictures of us together.. I cried my eyes out. I finally understand what this song means, what its like to lose someone you love more than anyone else.
ahh I love Space-Dye Vest!! But Ministry of Lost Souls is probably their best ballad yet. Goodnight Kiss is good too. (btw, everything's ok now, the whole march break-up was a big misunderstanding!! \m/ )
A few years ago I lost my dad in a accident. This song makes me think of that, even if I dont want to.. the line "days disappear" makes me think of when I stayed home instead of being in school and laying in bed and crying all days long. The change in my life, and that I´ll never feel normal again.
Any of you guys knows what this lyric talks about? I read it (im brazilian) but some parts doesnt make much sense for me. All I know is thats beautiful..Anyone knows whats talks about?
Jamez wrote the lyrics...I checked it out on songmeanings. com, but it were much discussion there what it were about.. Some say that James divorced with hes wife then, others say its about death. Other mean thatb it aren´t about James personal life and Death, just the filing to never meet someone again. So sad lyrics...James is my favvo lyricswriter in DT..And John Petruccis too
If you look at his face in the performance, its not anger...far from it. He's obviously thinking about someone, and hes also holding back tears. The loss, and meaning in this song is profound, as with a lot of their lyrics
oh I totally agree!!! james makes the band. he wrote a couple parts of octavarium which are ausom and solo work is way cool. fuck whoever says otherwise they are all dumb no talent loud mouths, why dont u guys shut up, get of the computer and go shred a fuckin guitar!!
If only they ever let James have SOME creative impact other then the occasional lyrics of a song, Dream Theater would break into more territory. And before some people go about bitching about how LaBrie sucks and would queer up the albums, listen to one of his solo albums.
You're damn right Man... Labrie knows about music, in fact, "Elements Of Persuasion" its a very nice album, versatile in every sense of the word.
I think labrie gives that kinda warm feeling to some songs of Dream Theater. Sorrounded, Wait For Sleep, Learning To Live, Disappear and so many other ones...
majorly rushed. i get the impression james is pissed at how fast they are playing it. he kinda gets treated like a second class person in DT, although there is no one on the planet that could ever replace him.
Yeah, the piano/guitar part is really cool and pretty creepy. Even though it's creepy it still adds to the overall sad/depressing/depressed feeling of the song, which is cool.
This sounds almost exactly like the studio version too. What's everyone's preference?
I know the song is about death, but when i first heard it i had justo broken up with my girlfriend and it just explained what i felt. When they came to Madrid i couldn't stop telling james of the beauty of these lyrics
actually, after I finished watching it, i realized i love his outfit. his style is his style. each of the guys in the band have a different style of clothes, which is cool.
what's so wrong with his shirt? it's a normal shirt...jeez. it's not black, but oh well....tho i must admit i like it better when he wears black leather pants with a black shirt. But his shirt is fine =)
That's beautiful stuff right there. I'm currently having an argument with this guy, who's better...Dream theater or Dragonforce. Ha, how does Dragonforce get anyway near the likes of Dream Theater. DT really are the best...
brilliant!

glorification of the Unheimlich; disjunction, depth, but in a way: certainty and hope. That 'Pelicula del Santo' part kills me absolutely!
aalvard 3 years ago 2
James couldn't really get deep into it because of the fast tempo. It's wasn't fair for him to have this song rushed :(

definitely one of if not my favorite ballad from them, and easily one of the best performances from this concert.
anyone who says that dream theater has no emotion needs to listen to this song.

Uma das músicas mais injustiçadas do Dream Theater - uma das mais bonitas, também...

It makes you think of something, something that's important to you. That's what makes it so fantastic, so perfect...

in the live version, he changed a few words in the beginning of the second stanza. anybody know what the words were changed to?

Instead of "I'll turn this slowly round" he just says "I'll slowly turn this round." No big change.

Too bad they played the song too fast. In this live the song played in this way loose its emotive impact. This song is pure poetry. Thanks Dream!
