My God, how can a composer after Second W. War to write such music? ahahah. No Sorabji has more fantasy, and has however the privilege of excentricity. This seems a formal house-steward...may be was the Stalin effect? ahah
It didn't sound bad. (Unlike some of the playing on this video). Quite frankly, I can sound "like Schnittke" when I improvise also. And yes, this is hard stuff to master, (and it has been 6 years now!), but I love it.
I never really measured it, so I would just say, not more difficult than memorizing any other piece. Actually, easier, than if I had to memorize something I had to play but wasn't interested in particularly.
I actually appreciate the music. Being a pianist myself, albeit intermediate at best, I just kind of have to wonder about the process involved in memorizing a piece without a definite traditional-like structure or progression of notes or chord structure. I actually improvise a lot, and what I improvise can sound similar to the Schnitke in some ways mostly because I concentrate on presenting a mood or emotion and don't concentrate on notes very much.

Don't play stuff like this... It's aweful.
It sounds like it could be part of Opus Clavicembalisticum, the hardest piece in the world, which in my opinion sounds like shit.
I can see you're not too bad, but this piece is aweful...

I hope that didn't sound bad. I know the piece you played is notated and requires some skill to play.

Well, not to be modest, but I could have done it better. Thank you.

How difficult do you find it to memorize a piece like this?

Why do you ask?
