I remember the first time I went to Mexico City my dad told me that you often have to get a running start to squeeze in.. and that people are pushed out or trampled if they stand by the door. I experienced that first hand it was fun
Everytime I go to Mexico City, I like riding the metro. While I agree that traveling at rush hour is not fun, I have experienced pleasant times at non rush hours. I'd say if you do not have to be somewhere at any specific time, take the metro. The metro has great service and coverage.

I just recently rode on the DC Metro (same name as Mexico's capital city subway, coincidence?) during the rally to restore sanity, and the cars were full but nothing compared to this, i could actually breathe, and people were complaining about how crowded it was! More people were trying to get in but people would not move another inch and give up their personal space.

be careful of taking the subway in the roush hours 7:00 am- people go to their jobs and 5:00 pm people go out of their jobs.
