Ok, I have a weird question. One pc which I bought years ago with dual core 2,4 GHz was not capable to run many programs because the cpu usage was high (50-90%). I had no trojans, viruses etc in my harddrive. So I bought a new cpu 3.0 GHz dual core with 6 mb cache, but haven't installed it yet. One dude said that if I installed the new cpu ít wouldn't make my computer run smoother and that the cpu wouldn't do any difference at all. Is he right?
@Zomb1fic4ion no i don't. i'm pretty sure you'd have to update the bios but that's only if you're upgrading the motherboard also. but i'm not really sure.
@RapierMedia It CAN be done without removing the motherboard, but it's wise to take out the Motherboard so you have easier access to the heatsink fan and the CPU.
However, if you can easily access them without damaging or straining any other parts of your computer, then by all means do it. :)
$50-$100 for a Gig of RAM? Apparently these people havn't heard of discount computer places such as Tigerdirect or CompUSA. You can get a fairly good GB of RAM for $20.
why would u even need upgrade that?.. it doesnt sound like the fastest but it suree ain the slowest.. soubds pretty fine 2 me.. r u sure u dnt need something else replaced?... ram?.. gfx card? sound card?
are there different type of CPU's? i think i might need to get a new motherboard cause mine is from 1995 lol. yes... i used to use windows 95 but now i use windows 2000, which is basically just like XP but older settings
i hate pc world, i took my pc to get fixed, its been 5 weeks now, phoned them up today, and they lost it. i am going to make them either find my one and fix it or make then give me a new one. i am also going to make them pay back for the phone calls. if not i am goign to call the trading standards.
I dont know where you get your information from, a little bird? Ha! They cost like 60-80 dollars if you dont use amazon or any other place like that. I got lucky and paid 55 dollars for 1 gig.
for once pcworld actually gives good advice.... but just like pcworld WAY OUT OF DATE lol, maybe they could do one with watercooled and with quad core chips.
P.s that was not me it was my dad fyi i have a 4 core AMD phenom x4 950

If replacing a processor on my Compaq computer, you reccomend taking the motherboard out. But can it be done without removing the motherboard?
I have little computer maintenance experience, and i'd probably not know how to put cables back in.

to a
Intel Pentium Dual-Core (E6500) Processor 2048KB L2 Cache 1066MHz FSB (BX80571E6500)

hey, quick question, do you need thermal paste when replacing cpu's, or can you just replace them without it?
and please reply only if you know the answer 100%, either from educated knowledge or personal experience.
