  • i disliked because i disagree, now lets see whats gonna happen

  • HAVE YOU RED PHILIPPINE HISTORY? MEXICAN,,,WHAT?

  • nice share ko po ha.

  • *facepalm-_-

  • no wonder my mom makes me do that hand thingy on the forehead.i always did it but never knew why lol

  • Proud to be Pinoy~

  • I honestly don't like the Jeepneys I think they are too old and need to be replaced. We need to keep up with everyone else(`_´)ゞ And people need to start moving out of Manila they need to find a way to drive people out of that place

  • @poofkaboom I think the jeepneys just n be updated. but I agree, people need to leave manila, they're destroying the city by squatting & with their trash.

  • proud to be filipino taas noo

  • i always do the mano to my grandpa i never forget that cause I'M PROUD TO BE FILIPINA

  • filipino culture in a nutshell= The elderly can abuse the young and get away with it.

  • The native Chamorro people of Guam/Marianas islands have a similar looking custom to the Filipino MANO. We call it MA'NGI'NGI, It means TO SMELL or SNIFF. The custom looks almost the same except that instead of bringing the hand to your forehead, you bring the hand to your nose and sniff it in order to inhale the wisdom and goodness of your elders. Elders sniff the cheek of a child in a similar fashion, in order to inhale some of the vigor of the young child to extend their old age.

  • @CHAM0RRITO i hear that there's a significant filipino population in guam. & that there are many filipino load words too. you probably took that ma'ngi'ngi from filipinos too. very interesting!

  • @nenabunena there was an influx of filipino laborers that arrived in guam after WWII. Many went on to live in hawaii &the west coast USA. Some remained in Guam. But in 1980s Guam saw many filipinos arriving. Today filipinos are very significant population. The Mangingi custom of sniffing the hand is a blend of our pacific island custom of the 'sniff' greeting & the catholic tradition of kissing the ring or hand of higher clergy. But not many loan words aside from food names & maybe some slang.

  • @CHAM0RRITO tnx for the clarification! but i did hear though that a number of filipinos were brought over there by spaniards before the 20th century. & that the loan words weren't specifically tagalog, maybe ilokano. i was reading that austronesian linguists were having problems trying to find out teh original chamorro language without outside influences bec they weren't sure which were filipin loan words or not. this is what i read though. btw, what do you know of truk islanders?

  • @nenabunena during the spanish colonial era, filipinos that sailed from manila to acapulco later arrived in Guam. some remained in guam while most returned to the philippines. there are Chamorro people that have some filipino ancestry. Some Chinese merchants from the Philippines arrived in Guam as well. It is difficult to trace the Chamorro language because it has changed significantly. In fact about 55% of Chamorro vocabulary is of Spanish origin. Truck islanders are Micronesian. Many in Guam

  • @CHAM0RRITO wow! that's a huge % of loan words. in tagalog, the spanish loan words are about 10-20% only. i don't think you would understand filipino bec we have a different language, we have over 171 languages here & we don't find other filipino languages understandable, much less you guys understanding tagalog. my great grandfather is half micronesian & half german, probably chamorro. he was brought & raised in the philippines when he was 6 yrs old. so i read a bit abt ur culture

  • @nenabunena Chamorros are geographically micronesian, but culturally we're more a blend of oceanic and latino cultures. It is likely that your g-grandfather was half micronesian from another micronesian island than guam. Germany held the micronesian islands for a short time in the early 20th century. And german government & sailors fathered mixed german-micronesian children. Chamorros are a mestizo race mixed with native Chamorro, Spanish, Mexican, Oceanic, and Asian depending on ones ancestry.

  • @CHAM0RRITO woah! you also have mexican ancestry? my other great grandfather was half mexican. what micronesian island was occupied by germans where germans intermarried the women? the mom's name was taray & was the daughter of a chieftain. do you have 2 kinds of lumpia like we do? we have lumpiang prito (fried lumpia) & lumpiang sariwa (fresh lumpia). filipino food is yummy but very fattening, lol!

  • @nenabunena all chamorros have some mexican ancestry. we have mexican foods too. tortillas, tamales, atole, chilaquiles, etc. Guam had a very rich CORN CULTURE that was introduced by mexican laborers in the Spanish time. Many of whom fathered mixed Chamorro-Mexican children. Chamorro language has Mexican indigenous loanwords. But I imagine the philippines had mexican influence too. But because Guam was just one single island with small population, the impact of mexican influence was strong.

  • @CHAM0RRITO we do have some mexican loan words, & there were mexicans in the philippines. in fact 2 native american tribes were brought to the philippines & settled here. back then, filipinos were not that big, about 5M I assume. but not all or many filipinos I think have mexican encestry. even if we do, it's negligible now. but mexico also had influence from us, the asian looking mexicans are of filipino ancestry & they even imitated our barong tagalog which is indigenous to us

  • @nenabunena all the micronesian islands except Guam was occupied by germany until the end of the first world war. In Guam there is only the fried lumpia. But the filipinos in Guam make the fresh kind too. Chamorros only learned the fried kind and we filled it with ingredients and flavors that are more to our liking. Chamorros like fried foods very much.

  • @nenabunena But i must say that the filipinos arriving in guam after WWII introduced certain foods that we like in Guam and have adopted them as part of our fiesta table. Lumpia, pancit, puto (but we call it potu hehehe), tuba (which also made it to mexico during the colonial times).

  • @nenabunena The mangingi custom was not taken from the filipinos, actually it was introduced by spanish clergy who instructed the Chamorro people to greet the catholic clergy with a kiss on his hand/ring. Journals from one of the first jesuit priests to visit Guam describe it in detail when the custom was introduced. But the Chamorro people changed the kissing custom and used the 'sniff'' instead. Today it is used to greet your elders. The sniffing/inhaling custom is very unique to Oceania.

  • @nenabunena Aside from common spanish words that are shared by Chamorro language of Guam and filipino languages, I cannot understand Filipino language. And Filipinos in Guam find it very difficult to understand Chamorro. Because many languages are branched out from the malayo-polynesian group, Some words may sound similar and follow similar grammatical structure. The Spanish influences on both our languages is what we share in common. To some degree I can understand Filipino because of that.

  • the picture at harana, I really think that is in front of the main building at UST....

  • Most of the things shown in the video aren't anymore a part of the culture.

  • this is what a real Filipino...

  • i wanna live in manila...and im working hard in japan to move to philippines in future...

  • I've traveled and visited many places in the Philippines along with many other asian countries. I love it there. The weather is great along with the beaches. It's relatively safe in most parts and people are friendly. The main gripe some guys might have is that Filipinas are reluctant to try anal. This wasn't so much a problem in places like Thailand. But most Filipina women aren't too keen on backdoor. I think much of it has to do with conservative Catholic roots.

  • @M44resto ano ang problema mo?

  • @M44resto puta

  • @M44resto lol go fuck yourself

  • I'm studying the Spanish language and guess what?

Mano means hand, so when we say 'mano po', we're saying 'hand please'.

  • @snizer06 ...ok but we still ROCK !!!!!

  • sana buhayin muli ang mga kaugaliang pinoy

  • proud to be pinoy!

  • If you need inspiration or help, always turn to your history and roots, and you can always read or watch literature or movies/tv/media from the Marcos era and before that (especially 50-60s). This was unfortunately the point where the strong Filipino identity ended. It's time to start it again.

  • You have a rich culture, and you are technically a "Latin American" country. You have the means to be like the Japanese or Spanish, in how they are homogenous-acting and focus and promote their culture in their everyday life. The Philippines = a unique Pacific Rim-Latin-Malay/Polynesian culture and people!

  • ang galing naman. Napakahusay haha

  • I liked this video. I'm a proud pinoy also.

  • whats the big deal there good hardworking people i know my wifes filipino so i know

  • @RareJj7 our history is great, we fought many wars with nothing to get our freedom and given less credit, you should be proud.

  • @vrvcent

I did not know i put that and unintentionally did due to less character count and did not want to spam the thread, I lack double-checking my posts :P what I meant to say was, well we've fought wars, the ones we didn't win were grave losses, but the ones we did win we have great pride in, but the ones we did lose, we still scared the crap out of people, look at the resulting filipino revolution against america

  • @vrvcent

at first, they thought we were not ready to make our own government, we fought back, we lost, but we scared the hell out of them, which is why we still gained our independence, with only bad part is having to use democracy, which neccesarily isn't a bad thing but it still trashed up what we were really meant to be in that time period

  • @vrvcent

but looking at us now, we have so much things to be prideful for that any pinoy who was lost in his roots, if he looked back at his nationality's accomplishments, would go back to being proud to be a pinoy :D

and one last thing, I am proud, never misjudge that :P but I could agree my last comments sounded a little off from what i really meant

  • Some don't get it easy, but we certainly are not insecure, plus if you look at it, no matter how much our history has been raped by other nations, we still stand our ground, the only thing that got mucked up was our dialects using spanish, and that's nothing to be ashamed of! It's actually pretty cool :)

But if history and heritage isn't your bestest gold, then unity is.

  • but yeah like what yunacons said, our original traditions are pretty mixed up, not even schools teach proper history of our nation. Always interested in what the spanish did and what the Japanese did after, and the Americans all in between(which is neither good nor bad)

Please don't be a hypocrite.

  • thats the effect of the americanization and westernization sh*t.... corruption, bribery, laziness, gambling, colonial mentality, etc are all brought by westerners.. kaya dapat wag tayong masyadong mag hanga sa kanila kasi sila ang nagpa itim sa bansang ito...

  • excuse me,, d lhat ng babae ngaun cheap nu !

  • and you're the most idiot hahaha

  • and you're the most idiot hahaha

  • before you say that, please check your grammar, such a ridiculous thing

  • to point out what was originally a "pinoy" tradition is like finding a niddle in a haystack. To find what was originally "Filipino" is impossible becsaue weve only been a nation for 110 years...to know what was originally OF OUR PEOPLE then we have to look at the Malay traditions...

  • Pagmamano is a Malay thing. I think pag-mamano is one of the Malay traditions we have kept even after being forced to convert to Christianity by the Spanish...No way to confirm what i just said but theres no way the Malays sould have inherited that tradition from us...

  • The "mano" can be found throughout SEA. Even the Princess of Brunei does it.

  • hey harana thats originally filipino culture, thats spanish culture kung hindi nyo alam mga tao kayo, and the national costume thats originally filipino, thats spanish too, even mexicans wear that, hispanic people wear that. What really is the true filipino culture and tradition?? do they even teach in school?? i dont think so.
