I think it would be cool to have eddie van halen there instead of the edge, but i don't know if he would have very good chemistry with White and Page.. *sigh*
Even with these many years, Jimmy Page does not lose his position, his magic, his feeling of amazing guitar play. Thanks for upload the video, I am speechless.
It seems like The Edge and Jack White are somewhat opposites. The Edge is obsessed with sound quality, tune, and electronics. Jack White is much less worried about being perfectly clean, and more worried about the emotion behind his playing. He thinks electronics make music too easy and impersonal but The Edge obsesses over his effects just as much as his guitar. I'm surprised they didn't argue about anything. Maybe that was in the deleted scenes :)
There is no "best", there is only personal preference. Many excellent musicians in a wide range of styles and genres. Don't allow useless pigeon-holing to prevent you from experiencing all of it that you can. It's well worth the open mind and investiture of time.
I just don't understand the whole which guitarist is better bullshit. Either you like somene's playing or you don't, stop crying people it's annoying.
WHile I fully agree that Page is, one of the top guitarists of all time, and far and away the best rock guitarist, I think it is probably too early to tell where the other two will fit in the overall grand scheme. While The Edge has a considerable amount of material in his songbook, U2 is still coming out with new material every few years, and it is certainly too early to think teat we have seen the best of what Jack has to offer. Time and separation has a way of changing perspective.
@321harold In the old days Amps didn't have their own pedal for gain and other effects. It was literally just volume. You might get a gritty sound out of the amp if it was broken, like the Kinks did, but other than that your only choice was a distortion pedal.
@zzy66613 While that would make for some great playing, I think it would be a very short conversation. They all have worked together over the years, and have had styles that have overlapped at different points.
@boaspagesturn U dont have time to argue cause you dont have a clue what ur talking about. AND HE admitted he took the 1st 2 notes of something from the Beatles for the rain song Fact. Kahmir is a song Plant wrote! Jimmy did come up with the riff, but some people question that. Yea its really a great riff LOLOL so much so Puff daddy used it lolol and page agreed.
@boaspagesturn Page didnt write "in my time of dying" Bob dylan took it from an old blues artist from the 20's and bob listed as traditional. Led zep recorded it in the 70's and credited as written by Jimmy Page and music by him too. Zep ripped off 80 to 90% of their music!! Look up led zeppelin plagerism . 1ST 4 ALBUMS ONLY 1 ORIGNAL AND SOME SAY HE RIPPED THAT TOO. So dont come on here saying Page is this or that all he did he steal HE DID NOT COMPOSE!!!!!!!!
@valkour22 Wonder why Ritchie Blackmore, who could play circles around any guitarist who's ever lived, and ever will live, except Page, said Hendrix wasn't good at all? And saying he "STOLE" material? How fucking dumb are you?
@MysterioFan02 Are u stupid? Blackmore could'nt play circles around any guitarist that ever lived . Look up led zep plagerism and u will see the truth. Blackmore being able to play circles around anyone makes me laugh. do you know that the technique that the people u mention is like the basic beginners stuff? The people u say are the best is like comparing dog food to steak.
@valkour22 Are you aware that Blackmore not only was the FIRST guitarist ever to sweep, but he also invented shredding, and is a hard rock pioneer? And did you know that Hendrix also "stole" ,as you call it, a few songs? And Page re-wrote a few songs like Whole Lotta Love, adding new riff, rythm, solo, etc. Please, begone, pest.
@valkour22 He wasn't? ROFL, please do your search before flaming 2 of the biggest music icons. By the way, yes, Page did cover a few songs, changing them into his own style, but Hendrix did that as well :). And YES, Blackmore was the first guitarist ever to sweep and shred, now just go away, troll.
@MysterioFan02 A few songs? Look up led zep plagerism. He didnt cover, he stole them and credited himself as the writer and arranger of them. Your a complete idiot Charlie Christian was sweep picking way before blackmore ! There were people sweep picking lines in like the 1600's. And he was not the 1st person to shred lolol, but who in the hell gives a crap about who shreded 1st lolol. Your stupid!
@MysterioFan02 are u fucking stupid?? U think thats the 1st shred or lame ass guitar? Communication Breakdown was yrs b4 Highway star loser, so i guess that kills ur theory and CB was not the 1st !
@MysterioFan02 sure sounds like ur loser hero ritchie blackmore stole that riff highway star from communication breakdown which Page stoled also,. stfu ur stupid
@valkour22 And just so you know, getting inspiration off of a song DOES NOT mean you're stealing it, now gtfo kid, you're really annoying and stupid, obviously...
@MysterioFan02 when u take the exact riff or words and dont credit it and are sued, that is stealing. And as u see highway star is not the 1st shred guitar as u claimed dumbass. Claim some over BS that isnt true !
@valkour22 Led Zeppelin only didn't credit one song. ONE song, that DOES NOT mean they're untallented, or stupid, or w/e you're calling them. Despite that fact, Zep still is the biggest band in history, much bigger than Hendrix will ever be, now please stop with this pointless argue :D
@MysterioFan02 ? u comparing zeppelin with The Beatles? And for ur info Jimi Hendrix was 10x the guitarist that page and blackmore were put together. Page was even quoted after the 1st time he saw Hendrix saying" he felt like giving up the guitar after seeing hendrix, as he knew he could never be that good" .
@MysterioFan02 well if u think they are equally good, tube the video, Jimi Hendrix kills Clapton, and Paul McCartney talks about Jimi Hendrix to see from the perspective of people that actually seen Hendrix make other guitarist of the day walk off stage and cringe if he was even around.
@valkour22 Clapton is absurdely underrated, and Page alone didn't make Zeppelin what it is, all of them did, and it's guaranteed you'll never find artists as talented as Bonham, JPJ, and specially Plant.
@valkour22 Look, it all comes down to whom has inspired you to pick up a guitar or w/e, and taste, not sure what I've said days ago, I do know Hendrix was good and all, but the way I see it, he's just not #1, simply because I do not like 99% of his stuff, just one song: Little Wing. The rest, I just can't stand it, so IN-MY-OPINION, as innovative as he was, he's overrated.
I grew up idolizing players like Eddy Van Halen, Malmsteen, Vai, and Satch. It took me many years to realize that it does not have to be technical to be good. It does not matter whether you express yourself with one note or a thousand, it is about expressing yourself, finding your voice and making music with it. I can play the technical stuff and I love it to this day, but good music is so much more then scales and arpeggios. A good hook is everything, anything else is icing on the cake.
I think much of this debate is foolish. I am a pro guitarist and graduate of GIT. Hendrix is the godfather of metal. Page brought odd and exotic scales like Hungarian Minor into rock. They were both amazing innovators. The Edge created a whole sound based around delays. Jack White has helped to bring rock back to it's roots. It is about making music, and all of these guys have a unique musical voice

@boaspagesturn and u dont know crap! Page ripped off the material for the 1st four led zep albums except for 1 song good times bad times and some say he stole that too. you dont know crap!!!
@boaspagesturn i actually seen Page in concert dumbass and he suxxed live !!! Real guitarist? I dont think Becker can play anything at the moment. Satriani needs as many effects as the edge. Hendrix would wipe the floor with Page. And let me tell u something dumbass ,all i did was reply that hendrix is WAY BETTER THEN SLOPPY JIMMY and if u cant tell jimi was superior then u dont know music.
Jimmy Page is good for such a movie, but i dont think the Edge belongs there and nor does Jack white, U can pick Jimmy Page because of his guitar stuff, u take Edge and Jack because of U2 and the White stripes. For a movie like this you should pick people who are famous becuase their guitar playing, not because the sound of the band.
@boaspagesturn Omg ur freaking stupid lolol . Page was the worst guitarist ever live. Hendrix would of made page look like an idoit. Page is a really sloppy guitarist. and page stole all the material for the 1st 4 lp's except for good times bad times. page was more a producer than guitarist. Page played 2 scales lololol and thats it the pent and mixolydian. Hendrix would of moped the floor with page. Page really suxx playing live.
@boaspagesturn you act as if the stuff Hendrix was doing was childs play compared to zeppelin. Hendrix pioneered the blues to mix with Funk, Jazz, and Rock along with greats like Miles Davis, Cream, and Sly Stone to turn it into its own definable thing. Not trying to say that Page was a moron, but your making it seem as if Hendrix was just another ordinary run-of-the-line guitar player, that did nothing but play I IV V's all night and somehow become a god.
@boaspagesturn Yeah, he knows a bunch of tunings, but was he any good outside the studio? could he front his own band? Jimi made much more happen in the studio with 3 guys and a couple days than Page could in a week. Jimi was a live guitarist, with much more stage personality and feeling than Page had in his prime. I would like to know what you heard from Hendrix that you thought was that bad.
@boaspagesturn I agree with you, although I would add that Page is also the Beethoven of rock in terms of the range and intensity of the music that he created. I think part of the reason why Hendrix is often ranked #1 in those "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" lists is that he died young and people want to honor his legacy, but Page has the total package as a guitarist--technique, versatility, songwriting skills, and guitar god-like stage presence.
@boaspagesturn I agree that Page is much more than a guitarist. He's a songwriter, composer, and producer who was the architect of Led Zeppelin's sound. Plus, as a guitarist, his range and versatility are unrivaled. When he rocked, he rocked hard and his riffs prefigured metal and even punk, but he also wrote exquisitely beautiful acoustic music. As innovative as Hendrix was, I don't think he came close to Page in terms of range, versatility, or sense of melody.
@avocate201 As innovative as Hendrix was, I don't think he came close to Page in Terms of range, versatility, or sense of melody. WOW, you might as well of said Hendrix played a 1 string banjo and left it at that. Hendrix wrote Little wing, Machine Gun, Are you Experienced and played blues guitar like nobody else on this planet then on since. Page is one of the best, Led Zepplin was The Best Rock Band But Hendrix was One of Kind. People say some strange things on here but to each his own.
@avocate201 we all know hendrix started it, but he was by far the most colourful and melodic player I've heard, bold as love, little wing, his blues, he made alot of class stuff. As for versatility Page has had almost 55 years to experiment with other styles of music, jimi had 4 then died
@MrMemis Page was a session player in the early 60's , and he was able to quickly shift from rock , country , jazz , blues, surf pop even muzak , often he had to play all those styles and play them perfectly in a single day of recording . Page was versatile enough to be playing sessions while still a teenager
@RisingSon011 wrong,Big Jim Sullivan did the country ,jazz and other types at the sessions,Page was mainly the new rock style. Big Jim is 10x the guitarist then Page is.
@MrMemis I hear what you're saying about Hendrix's "colorful" style of playing, but I was talking about fairly objective things, like range and versatility and also the fact that Page not only played great guitar, but also wrote songs and produced albums. Of course, as you said, Page has had a longer career than Hendrix did, but Page had range and versatility even in his pre-Yardbirds days as a top session guitarist who played on all kinds of albums by various artists.
@MrMemis This is not a knock on Hendrix, but what you said is really telling. He only had 4 years! I know he wouldn't have lost his ability to play, but he might have run out of song ideas or he might have drifted too far away from what fans wanted. There is no way to know if he would still be hearalded as THE guitarist had he lived. He had his status cemented when he died. Just like Morrison, Joplin, & Cobain. A bright light the MAY have fizzled. Beck has blazed for 50+ years.
@avocate201 While I adore both JImmy & Jimi I think if anyone deserves the title of most versatile that would be Jeff Beck. The guy was doing things that people like Hendrix & Van Halen get credit for before they did them. He also has refused to stay pigeonholed into one genre. The fact that he has a list a mile long of guest appearance on a wide range of styles speaks volumes. He is on stuff with Stanley Clarke, Wynonna, Jon Bon Jovi, Pavarotti, etc. That my friends is versatile.
@TNO73 Yea Beck was very... Alternative. But that was exactly what Beck was TRYING to be all of the time. - different. Sometimes it worked (Scatterbrain) sometimes it didn't. But the whole point was that, alternative is all that Beck was ever trying to be... And that is what he became. He became a cliche of himself, whereas Page really was diverse. His soul was diverse. I would still put Beck, Page and Hendrix as my top three, but even though Page had his moments of WTF... - He is still the king
This is just silly... you have page, who is a legend and then two other guitarists who don't come any where close to his ability.
Should have gone with May and Clapton - at least they would have kept each one another interested. Cant believe Page gave them Kashmir and whole lotta love and White gave them seven nation army ha ha guitar teachers teach that to beginners !
Now if Hide was still alive with Matt Bellamy and Jimmy page, that would have been very interesting
no offense to all the "U2" fans out there, but in all honesty you can't tell me that The Edge deserves to be on the same stage as Jack White, let alone Jimmy Page?? Just my opinion, but i think a lot of you agree.
Shit soo sorry I missed all the arguing guys but I was busy LISTENING to my Zepplin and Hendrix albums, maybe yall should try it too, just throwing it out there
@boaspagesturn *HENDRIX COULD MAKE HIS GUITAR SOUND LIKE A RAGING BEAST ON FIRE*(WITH OR WITOUT EFFECTS HE WAS GODLY WITH HIS TEETH HE IS THE INVENTOR OF HEAVY METAL WAAHHH WAHHHHH SRRGFGFDCC!!!!)
@boaspagesturn to challange hendrixs musical knowledge is slightly ignorant thing to do. jimmy page is in no way a musical theory master, he may be now however back in his hay days he was like hendrix completly clueless with music. hendrix was infact despite his musical theory lacking a incdredibly fluent player he knew virtually every chord postion on the neck but really my point is invalid to compare the two is pointless just accept that they are both two badass guitarists
@boaspagesturn lol please, I have listened to all of those songs. I'm a big led zep fan and I have all their cd's. All I'm saying is that you can't compare these two guys. They are both legends and they both made revolution in rock history. It's about taste when it comes to favour one over the other.
Many metal guitarists have invented new tunings, but you wouldn't consider them as good as Jimy page, would you? And you think Jimi didn't compose his songs? dude, seriously?
@boaspagesturn One is not a better guitarist because he likes to play in 4 different tuning..seriously -.-
And don't be such a douche and say that hendrix was just a guy who improvised to a backup band. You know just as well as I how freakin huge that guy was and how he made a revolution in guitar playing.
Anyhow, both Page and Hendrix were tremendously good at guitar and they made great music in their own genius ways. To me, Hendrix was the best. But it's personal really. They're both legends.
@boaspagesturn Listen to "One Rainy Wish", "Wind Cries Mary", and "Castles Made of Sand." The lyrics on One Rainy Wish are amazing, and the chord progression is nothing like the blues. Page himself couldn't play the intricate guitar playing that Jimi had done on them, yet Jimi couldn't do the great songs like "Bron Yr Aur Stomp" ,because of Page's skill. I doubt you listen to much Hendrix at all and you just assume. "In My Time of Dying" wasn't even written by Jimmy Page in case you didn't know.
@boaspagesturn No match for Page? They are both pretty much i believe on the same, yet different levels. Page could play a wider variety of music then Jimi that's for sure, but I believe Jimi helped create the step that got Page up there in rock music. Page could play more instruments then Jimi ever could and was amazing at them, but Jimi I think took rock music and feedback to the next level in his time. They were both excellent songwriters and great guitar players without a doubt.
lol the hendrix/page argument is always hilarious given most of you can't play a lick of any instrument, but cmon in terms of quick almost shoddy play especially live page takes the cake haha.
Yea, I'm not trying to trash talk anything. My point is that you made the statement that "hendrix plays sloppy." My point is that Hendrix, on studio albums, never played sloppy. Live stuff, yea, but I've never heard sloppy play on studio albums from Hendrix. I can dig Paige, but as you said, any halfway trained ear would hear his rushed triplets on studio albums. My point isn't to say Hendrix is better than Paige, it's just that your comment was inaccurate.
@boaspagesturn That's true he was known for showing up in less -than - sober condition alot back in the 70's . But I have seen him live many times since the Zep days and when he's sober he is spot on and still very inventive . I am glad he is well now .
@boaspagesturn by screw up I assume you mean he played it differently than the version on LZII . I have never heard Page ATTEMPT to replicate the studio version of any song , aand I never heard him play WWL exactly the same way it's played on the album
I'm going to challenge you to find one finished studio song that Hendrix played sloppy on. Hendrix may have played sloppy live (he did) but never did Hendrix release anything that was sloppy. Page, he rushes things at times and that is part of his style, but it's sloppy. There will always be slight mistakes, but I don't think any of Hendrix's studio mixed albums have sloppy playing on them. Hendrix was a perfectionist in that way...that's why that bad didn't last.
@Poolboy0Paul Well but that are the classics...fcourse everybody likes the classics..but jack is a blues man of a new generation and I think we may be happy that Jack is there cuz he's amazing and he does a great job carrying the blues/Rock trough in this new time ;)
You can say what you want but jack isn't less than wolf or winter or J.l Hooker, etc..
@boaspagesturn ...Can't argue with that! I love all kinds of guitar playing, but blues/rock is my fav. I was on a jazz guitar forum a few years ago and while we rock guys argue about who the best is etc, the jazz guys laugh at ALLl rock guitar players! They really have a snobby attitude about it all. One thing about Page live on stage is that he is the ultimate rock'n'roll Mr. Cool. ...and he's still that way as an old man. I wish I could play my guitar hanging around my knees! :-)
@boaspagesturn _ If you were alive at the time Hendrix broke out, you'd see it a bit differently. Now his playing is lost amongst a see of technically better players. But then, he was like from another planet. Everybody who was anybody was in AWE of him!.... I agree partially with you on Page's playing, 'cause I love it to death. But he's done some really bad playing out in public. Peace.
@boaspagesturn - Was just surfing around seeing what Page was doing these days and saw your comment. Felt compelled to reply. :) Interesting how you knew which one I meant. I LOVE Page's playing....slopped up as it is. A great player should be great all the time. This excludes Page from the big leagues. His creativity is another story. But really, he has to be the most famous fucked up guitar player of all time, lol.... Hendrix in no way ever played as sloppily or with as many mistakes.
@boaspagesturn _ There were 3 rock guitar *gods* in the '60's-- Clapton- Hendrix- Page. I loved all 3, still do. Jimmy Page wrote some of the best guitar licks ever, and my all-time personal favorite solo-- 'Heartbreaker'
BUT- only ONE of of those guys played the most sloppiest, fucked up guitar live, complete with the types of mistakes average players never make.... Guess which one?
They should have had Page, J White, and Prince. That would have a nasty combo and would have kept someone from the 80's. A lot of people don't realize that Prince is a f-ing badass, and is totally different than the other two.
You don't get the point son....It's so much about feel! Learn to FEEL the music! The Edge in Jimmys book is Soooooo fuckin' cool....loosen up kid...it's all good!
@boaspagesturn I would have to say that I disagree. Edge is unlike no other in the style of which he plays, same as White and Page. Of course, Jimmy Page is the king of guitar players, but do not underestimate the brilliance of The Edge
The Edge just is... kind of boring in my opinion. Okay, he's not fast, so instantly people think he has more style. I think that his playing is extremely boring, it's mainly just power chords, digitizing his signal with pedals (not the way Tom Morello does it). If you want slow and melodic, there's tons out there like Animals As Leader (Tosin Abasi) or Scale The Summit (Chris Fletcher)
Anyone who thinks The Edge is bad clearly doesn't know shit!! The Edge is unique!! Thousands of people can shred the fuck out without having any style at all!! The Edge didn't want to be the fastest or the most technical player, he just played his own way as a true artist.........btw, don't get me wrong I love good shredders like Paul Gilbert
i understand why they didint have David Gilmour and Chuck Berry instead of the edge and jack white. The earth would propably exloped if those 3 guys were in the same room playing at the same time
Why on earth would anyone want to argue about who's best? 3 entirely different types of player from 3 entirely different eras, yet as people they have so much in common! Page is the wizard, Edge is the technical master, & a lot of U2 or Zep fans will watch this wondering who the hell Jack White is, & most will be fans by the end!
How awesome is Jimi as Beethoven! So appropriate! Its like getting to watch Bach have a sit down with Mozart & Rachmaninov! Just enjoy the hell out of it!
@boaspagesturn The only reason I sound frustrated is because I have blatently spelled my points out for you, and yet you still cant seem to comprehend. If you dont remember, I did say that I "think that Jimi Page is the best guitarist to ever live". Yet you still cant get it into your head that there ARE other talented musicians out there besides him. I will say it again, I DO think that Page is worlds better than Edge, but Edge is a very talented musician whom you are practically spitting on.
@boaspagesturn Dont talk to me as if I dont know who Led Zeppelin are, they are one of my favorite bands. I also think that Jimi Page is the best guitarist to ever live, and i also know that he has influenced multiple genres of music and his playing is only rivaled by Hendrix. So just chill for a second. What I was trying to get at is that you shouldnt disrespect talented musicians. As far as the whole Edge thing goes, his shimmering arpegios/effects are unique whether you believe it or not.
@boaspagesturn The purpose of the movie was to have three different players with different styles. Page has his very unique style of chords and riffs, White is more of a guitar soloist, and Edge has his rhythmic style and effects which give him the most unique sound in my opinion. You have to embrace all three styles of playing because all three styles are great because quite frankly you can't sell hundreds of millions of rock records without an extremly gifted guitarist.
Discussed in this vid is a must have movie for any rock n roll afficianado. The "first music" moment mentioned is absolutely sublime and could appear in a top ten list of greatest rock moments.
Im not a huge u2 fan, though i love their old stuff, but anyone who is an unknown shlob and just dismisses them out of hand is a cock. they can write music...and show us what u got with a link to your excetional songwriting if u think edge is so crap.
@malti12345 The only reason it's hard is because you need to use the exact same effects that he does. There's nothing skillful about that, it's just down to what gear you have.
What happend is Jimmy Page and Jack White made "the edge" look like a fool on the big screen. I do not know how he can live with himself. The extra footage of Jimmy Page playing vinyl is better than the movie.
In all honesty the fact that The Edge would be able to create great songs using creative effects to completely transform something as simple as that riff.......shows that he is in fact a VERY creative guy. If he can take a piece of shit and transform it into something great, well I got to give him props.
It's so said when I read the comments. People think it's a race...who's the best...It's NOT !!! It's music...If you guys want to choose the best technical player then go into any national symphonic orchestra in the world and you'll find a guitarist that beats all 3 of them...It's a story about 3 different people who have 3 different approaches to music...there is NO winner or looser here. It's rock and roll...If you don't like the artist in the movie don't watch it...It's entertainment not war!
They should have put other guitar icons in the movie with jimmy page. jack and the edge are very good but they are not that icon status like page. they could have put someone like carlos santana eric clapton. I think jack white was a good pick because you want representation from the younger side as well
This is going to sound weird but i feel as if the edge takes music and totally makes slow sweet gentle love with it. He clears it makes it almost pure.
Jack White just ravishes music he fights it and just conquers it, he makes sure that you hear the struggle, while Jimmy page.... I' m loss for words when I try to describe what he makes music sound like.
I think it would be cool to have eddie van halen there instead of the edge, but i don't know if he would have very good chemistry with White and Page.. *sigh*

The people u say are the best is like comparing dog food to steak.
valkour22 7 months ago
@valkour22 Are you aware that Blackmore not only was the FIRST guitarist ever to sweep, but he also invented shredding, and is a hard rock pioneer? And did you know that Hendrix also "stole" ,as you call it, a few songs? And Page re-wrote a few songs like Whole Lotta Love, adding new riff, rythm, solo, etc. Please, begone, pest.
MysterioFan02 7 months ago
@MysterioFan02 BLACKMORE WAS NOT WAS FIRST TO SWEEP, UR AN IDIOT!
valkour22 7 months ago
@valkour22 He wasn't? ROFL, please do your search before flaming 2 of the biggest music icons. By the way, yes, Page did cover a few songs, changing them into his own style, but Hendrix did that as well :). And YES, Blackmore was the first guitarist ever to sweep and shred, now just go away, troll.
MysterioFan02 7 months ago
@MysterioFan02 A few songs? Look up led zep plagerism. He didnt cover, he stole them and credited himself as the writer and arranger of them. Your a complete idiot Charlie Christian was sweep picking way before blackmore ! There were people sweep picking lines in like the 1600's. And he was not the 1st person to shred lolol, but who in the hell gives a crap about who shreded 1st lolol. Your stupid!
valkour22 7 months ago
@valkour22 he wasn't the first person to shred? Have you ever heard the Highway Star solo? Geez, you're a complete moron..
MysterioFan02 7 months ago
@MysterioFan02 are u fucking stupid?? U think thats the 1st shred or lame ass guitar? Communication Breakdown was yrs b4 Highway star loser, so i guess that kills ur theory and CB was not the 1st !
valkour22 7 months ago
@valkour22 communication breakdown has no shredding, lol. If you don't like Page, then why are you watching a video about him? Get lost, Hendrix-boy.
MysterioFan02 7 months ago
@MysterioFan02 sure sounds like ur loser hero ritchie blackmore stole that riff highway star from communication breakdown which Page stoled also,. stfu ur stupid
valkour22 7 months ago
@valkour22 And just so you know, getting inspiration off of a song DOES NOT mean you're stealing it, now gtfo kid, you're really annoying and stupid, obviously...
MysterioFan02 7 months ago
@MysterioFan02 when u take the exact riff or words and dont credit it and are sued, that is stealing. And as u see highway star is not the 1st shred guitar as u claimed dumbass. Claim some over BS that isnt true !
valkour22 7 months ago
@valkour22 Led Zeppelin only didn't credit one song. ONE song, that DOES NOT mean they're untallented, or stupid, or w/e you're calling them. Despite that fact, Zep still is the biggest band in history, much bigger than Hendrix will ever be, now please stop with this pointless argue :D

Page was even quoted after the 1st time he saw Hendrix saying" he felt like giving up the guitar after seeing hendrix, as he knew he could never be that good" .
valkour22 7 months ago
@valkour22 Fyi, nobody comes close to Led Zeppelin. And just another thing, neither Page or Blackmore liked Hendrix' guitar playing =)

@MysterioFan02 well if u think they are equally good, tube the video, Jimi Hendrix kills Clapton, and Paul McCartney talks about Jimi Hendrix to see from the perspective of people that actually seen Hendrix make other guitarist of the day walk off stage and cringe if he was even around.
valkour22 7 months ago
@valkour22 Clapton is absurdely underrated, and Page alone didn't make Zeppelin what it is, all of them did, and it's guaranteed you'll never find artists as talented as Bonham, JPJ, and specially Plant.
MysterioFan02 7 months ago
@MysterioFan02 Underrated?!? HAHA! Clapton is rated one of the best of all time dumbass.
soadrhcpmuse 6 months ago

@boaspagesturn i actually seen Page in concert dumbass and he suxxed live !!! Real guitarist? I dont think Becker can play anything at the moment. Satriani needs as many effects as the edge. Hendrix would wipe the floor with Page. And let me tell u something dumbass ,all i did was reply that hendrix is WAY BETTER THEN SLOPPY JIMMY and if u cant tell jimi was superior then u dont know music.
valkour22 7 months ago

From Rolling Stone mag which is a consensus of surveyed opinions
1 Jimi Hendrix - Can't argue with this.
2 Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band - The greatest slide guitarist ever.
3 B.B. King - The King of the blues
4 Eric Clapton - god
5 Robert Johnson - Blues legend.
6 Chuck Berry - Created rock and roll guitar.
7 Stevie Ray Vaughan - Great blues player revived the blues in the disco era.
9 Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin -

@boaspagesturn I agree with you, although I would add that Page is also the Beethoven of rock in terms of the range and intensity of the music that he created. I think part of the reason why Hendrix is often ranked #1 in those "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" lists is that he died young and people want to honor his legacy, but Page has the total package as a guitarist--technique, versatility, songwriting skills, and guitar god-like stage presence.

because he sucks, sorry I hate bad music and U2 sucks , not even going to say anything about White stripes
nosequechuchasponer 8 months ago
@boaspagesturn I agree that Page is much more than a guitarist. He's a songwriter, composer, and producer who was the architect of Led Zeppelin's sound. Plus, as a guitarist, his range and versatility are unrivaled. When he rocked, he rocked hard and his riffs prefigured metal and even punk, but he also wrote exquisitely beautiful acoustic music. As innovative as Hendrix was, I don't think he came close to Page in terms of range, versatility, or sense of melody.
avocate201 8 months ago 21
@avocate201 As innovative as Hendrix was, I don't think he came close to Page in Terms of range, versatility, or sense of melody. WOW, you might as well of said Hendrix played a 1 string banjo and left it at that. Hendrix wrote Little wing, Machine Gun, Are you Experienced and played blues guitar like nobody else on this planet then on since. Page is one of the best, Led Zepplin was The Best Rock Band But Hendrix was One of Kind. People say some strange things on here but to each his own.
shaserv 7 months ago
@avocate201 we all know hendrix started it, but he was by far the most colourful and melodic player I've heard, bold as love, little wing, his blues, he made alot of class stuff. As for versatility Page has had almost 55 years to experiment with other styles of music, jimi had 4 then died
MrMemis 7 months ago 18
@MrMemis Page was a session player in the early 60's , and he was able to quickly shift from rock , country , jazz , blues, surf pop even muzak , often he had to play all those styles and play them perfectly in a single day of recording . Page was versatile enough to be playing sessions while still a teenager
RisingSon011 7 months ago
@RisingSon011 wrong,Big Jim Sullivan did the country ,jazz and other types at the sessions,Page was mainly the new rock style. Big Jim is 10x the guitarist then Page is.
valkour22 6 months ago
@valkour22 Big Jim is good...but Page is better ;)
sinvidaaa360 6 months ago
@MrMemis I hear what you're saying about Hendrix's "colorful" style of playing, but I was talking about fairly objective things, like range and versatility and also the fact that Page not only played great guitar, but also wrote songs and produced albums. Of course, as you said, Page has had a longer career than Hendrix did, but Page had range and versatility even in his pre-Yardbirds days as a top session guitarist who played on all kinds of albums by various artists.
avocate201 7 months ago
@MrMemis This is not a knock on Hendrix, but what you said is really telling. He only had 4 years! I know he wouldn't have lost his ability to play, but he might have run out of song ideas or he might have drifted too far away from what fans wanted. There is no way to know if he would still be hearalded as THE guitarist had he lived. He had his status cemented when he died. Just like Morrison, Joplin, & Cobain. A bright light the MAY have fizzled. Beck has blazed for 50+ years.
TNO73 6 months ago

@rockergoaile69 I'm not sure, I know the experience was before zeppelin, I don't know who was first to be in a real band though.
MrMemis 1 week ago
@avocate201 While I adore both JImmy & Jimi I think if anyone deserves the title of most versatile that would be Jeff Beck. The guy was doing things that people like Hendrix & Van Halen get credit for before they did them. He also has refused to stay pigeonholed into one genre. The fact that he has a list a mile long of guest appearance on a wide range of styles speaks volumes. He is on stuff with Stanley Clarke, Wynonna, Jon Bon Jovi, Pavarotti, etc. That my friends is versatile.
TNO73 6 months ago
@TNO73 Yea Beck was very... Alternative. But that was exactly what Beck was TRYING to be all of the time. - different. Sometimes it worked (Scatterbrain) sometimes it didn't. But the whole point was that, alternative is all that Beck was ever trying to be... And that is what he became. He became a cliche of himself, whereas Page really was diverse. His soul was diverse. I would still put Beck, Page and Hendrix as my top three, but even though Page had his moments of WTF... - He is still the king
Rafterman123 5 months ago
Page seems like such a humble and nice guy for a fucking LEGEND. Jack White and Edge have a long way to go in order to be Page's peer.
shimokita2 8 months ago
This is just silly... you have page, who is a legend and then two other guitarists who don't come any where close to his ability.
Should have gone with May and Clapton - at least they would have kept each one another interested. Cant believe Page gave them Kashmir and whole lotta love and White gave them seven nation army ha ha guitar teachers teach that to beginners !
Now if Hide was still alive with Matt Bellamy and Jimmy page, that would have been very interesting

@boaspagesturn to challange hendrixs musical knowledge is slightly ignorant thing to do. jimmy page is in no way a musical theory master, he may be now however back in his hay days he was like hendrix completly clueless with music. hendrix was infact despite his musical theory lacking a incdredibly fluent player he knew virtually every chord postion on the neck but really my point is invalid to compare the two is pointless just accept that they are both two badass guitarists
darthdude1016 10 months ago

Cincinnatus1869 8 months ago
@boaspagesturn lol please, I have listened to all of those songs. I'm a big led zep fan and I have all their cd's. All I'm saying is that you can't compare these two guys. They are both legends and they both made revolution in rock history. It's about taste when it comes to favour one over the other.
Many metal guitarists have invented new tunings, but you wouldn't consider them as good as Jimy page, would you? And you think Jimi didn't compose his songs? dude, seriously?
Vanodi 10 months ago
@boaspagesturn One is not a better guitarist because he likes to play in 4 different tuning..seriously -.-
And don't be such a douche and say that hendrix was just a guy who improvised to a backup band. You know just as well as I how freakin huge that guy was and how he made a revolution in guitar playing.
Anyhow, both Page and Hendrix were tremendously good at guitar and they made great music in their own genius ways. To me, Hendrix was the best. But it's personal really. They're both legends.

mistad00m 10 months ago
Shellbullet34 10 months ago
@boaspagesturn No match for Page? They are both pretty much i believe on the same, yet different levels. Page could play a wider variety of music then Jimi that's for sure, but I believe Jimi helped create the step that got Page up there in rock music. Page could play more instruments then Jimi ever could and was amazing at them, but Jimi I think took rock music and feedback to the next level in his time. They were both excellent songwriters and great guitar players without a doubt.
Shellbullet34 10 months ago
both show proper reverance to Page, the greatest song writing guitarist of all time

RisingSon011 11 months ago
@boaspagesturn

LordSauceness 11 months ago
Hendrix is still the best.
masonrox2547 11 months ago
@boaspagesturn _ If you were alive at the time Hendrix broke out, you'd see it a bit differently. Now his playing is lost amongst a see of technically better players. But then, he was like from another planet. Everybody who was anybody was in AWE of him!.... I agree partially with you on Page's playing, 'cause I love it to death. But he's done some really bad playing out in public. Peace.
LordSauceness 11 months ago
@boaspagesturn - Was just surfing around seeing what Page was doing these days and saw your comment. Felt compelled to reply. :) Interesting how you knew which one I meant. I LOVE Page's playing....slopped up as it is. A great player should be great all the time. This excludes Page from the big leagues. His creativity is another story. But really, he has to be the most famous fucked up guitar player of all time, lol.... Hendrix in no way ever played as sloppily or with as many mistakes.
LordSauceness 11 months ago
@boaspagesturn _ There were 3 rock guitar *gods* in the '60's-- Clapton- Hendrix- Page. I loved all 3, still do. Jimmy Page wrote some of the best guitar licks ever, and my all-time personal favorite solo-- 'Heartbreaker'
BUT- only ONE of of those guys played the most sloppiest, fucked up guitar live, complete with the types of mistakes average players never make.... Guess which one?
LordSauceness 11 months ago
They should have had Page, J White, and Prince. That would have a nasty combo and would have kept someone from the 80's. A lot of people don't realize that Prince is a f-ing badass, and is totally different than the other two.

pdouble3493 11 months ago
The Edge just is... kind of boring in my opinion. Okay, he's not fast, so instantly people think he has more style. I think that his playing is extremely boring, it's mainly just power chords, digitizing his signal with pedals (not the way Tom Morello does it). If you want slow and melodic, there's tons out there like Animals As Leader (Tosin Abasi) or Scale The Summit (Chris Fletcher)
XAlphaZEROX 11 months ago

jhott44 11 months ago
Anyone who thinks The Edge is bad clearly doesn't know shit!! The Edge is unique!! Thousands of people can shred the fuck out without having any style at all!!

As far as the whole Edge thing goes, his shimmering arpegios/effects are unique whether you believe it or not.

the edge doesn't belong :(

'This is what I'm playing' and he made a career out of those two notes...shame

Im not a huge u2 fan, though i love their old stuff, but anyone who is an unknown shlob and just dismisses them out of hand is a cock. they can write music...and show us what u got with a link to your excetional songwriting if u think edge is so crap.

Jesus christ u2 is fucking lame ......

Just try to copy the sounds of the edge and you'll se its much harder to do that than to learn the riffs and soloparts of jimmy.
This may not make him the best (technical-) guitar-player but a great musician.
If you listen to U2-songs everything fits and that is what counts - in my opinion.
malti12345 1 year ago

I think jack white was a good pick because you want representation from the younger side as well
TheFilmGuy999 1 year ago
C'mon Jack White ain't a icon..
I'd even contest if The Edge could be compared with Jimmy Page

neither jack or the edge belong in jimmys presence. what a joke. jack white is such a fucking hack
TheInboil 1 year ago
This is going to sound weird but i feel as if the edge takes music and totally makes slow sweet gentle love with it. He clears it makes it almost pure.
Jack White just ravishes music he fights it and just conquers it, he makes sure that you hear the struggle, while Jimmy page.... I' m loss for words when I try to describe what he makes music sound like.
