  • Nice and soothing! (:

  • PUMPA U READY?? PARRI MOE PARRI MOE PARRI MOE

  • Incredibly skilled, and amazing :) This type of singing is so unique :)

  • Native people giving bjs LMAO

  • Sounds like Native Americans trying to beatbox

  • I think you're a bit too offended on their behalf, but I admire your passion for their culture! I share it.

  • A-weemawack....A-weemack....

  • That's a cool effect.

  • where can i get a cd?

  • Thanks for sharing this vid and teaching us about it.

  • thats funny. i want to try that. i would probobly lose, lol

  • someone came to my school today and did that it was reallly cool

  • It's even more powerful when older Inuit women are doing it. You really get a sense of the tradition and feel kind of small and temporary on the planet, by comparison.

  • I know! This just needs a good beat behind it and it could be a club song, which I'm working on !

  • I'm surprised that Steve Reich, Phillip Glass and other minimalist composers concerned with rhythm, repetition and incremental variation haven't somehow illuminated throat singing of this sort. It's positively trance - inducing. What a creative and hilarious way to pass the time. I imagine it could possibly be quite therapeutic as well: the eye-contact, the creativity, the playfulness, the connection. Powerful stuff!

  • @NodeNorth i love your comment.

  • @barriehomeboy I can't even begin to tell you how disrespectful it is to take a beautiful piece of tradition like this and turn it into some club whore trash. You are disgusting.

  • @ROTTIMAN31 Don't I get points for explaining throat singing in the highest rated comments box? I'm a white guy. Cut me some slack! I was just pondering the possibilites of the sound as a musician. I have no clue what it means in the culture because our aboriginal peoples refuse to share their folklore with the white people who invaded their land and relegated them to lives of squalor on reserves or forgotten northern disrupted communities. Like... dude, I'm on your side.

  • @barriehomeboy Well I'm white too but I know better than to cheapen such sacred traditions by making club music out of it. You seem to understand how Native people were mistreated yet you can't see how disgraceful it is to exploit their traditions for something as cheap as club music?? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt if you don't know any better but please think these things through in the future.

  • mesmerizing. hypnotizing.

  • this is really fun to hear, i miss listening to people throat singing at my town

  • Where did you grow UP?!

  • It's okay that people laugh. The singers laugh at the end of every song. Why is it offensive for someone to post: hahahahahahahahalololololollolol olololol!!!!!!!!!" ? I think we have here a case of people being overly sensitive on others' behalf. Laughter is good for the soul.

  • Never thought I'd run into you somewhere else then your own channel were I learned tot didge, so you look into throat singing too huh? :)

  • It's a laughing game. The objective is to make the other person laugh before you do.

  • @barriehomeboy yep you are absolutely right about that.

  • WOW! Absolutely AMAZING

  • Min mi demandas cxu ili estas tiom proksimaj cxar ili sin amas unu la alian aw pro la veterkondicxoj lokaj...

  • i love how they do this singing im practixing it myself to see what itls like im a white girl but this looks fun

  • So Beautiful! Real Culture!

  • I am one of the singers in this video. How can I get a hold of a copy?

  • Great job.. I can turn this into a music file or send the video file and send it to you if you'd like.

  • if you use firefox download the add-on "fast video download" and when on this page click the icon on the bottom right to download the whole flash vid.

  • im currently the northwest champion in throat singing, looking for new challengers

  • I hopr they will be part of the Olympic Games in Vancouver..

  • this is ridiculously entertaining.

  • throat singing i think is used for hunting. like seals, whale, etc. it soound like they are imiatating sounds animals make. this is right? or am i wrong. im a navajo from arizona. bbahe.

  • it's only done by women. Typically 2 women. Has nothing to do with hunting but probably takes from the sounds and rythms of the arctic.

  • Amazing, just started listening to throat singing, when I heard the Mongolian styles and Tuvan I immediately recognised some Native American sounds and wondered if the Alaska area did something similiar ,now I know. Amazing!

  • does that hurt?

  • throat singing doesnt really sing words right? just noises?

  • I LOVE IT!!!! IT'S AWESOME!!!

    :D

  • I really wish I could form a band with two other throat singers. I think Inuit and Tuvan / Overtone would sound stunning together.

  • Fer those who dont understand what throat singing is used fer : back then we inuit didnt have anything to make music so we start using our throats . and its part of our culture .

  • singing wasn't good enough for you!? ;)

  • this is awasome!!!! i love it!! :D

  • Its got a good beat going though :)

  • wow that sounded interestin

  • That sounds cool.

  • I think its awesome doing there.... throat thing for there you know any way u guys are awesome! I have notice that all of them laugh at the end of there thoat thing!!

  • i personally like the tuvan throat singers better as well.

  • Yeah. This isn't what is commonly known as "throat singing" as from Mongolia or Tibet, with the prominent overtones. It's more like a rhythmic growling. And it's a game between two people. They do it for fun.

  • Ya, I was thinking more along the lines of Shu-de or Huun-Huur Tu.

  • Whatever p-bass!

  • Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention to keep your tongue relaxed. (my other nooby mistake) you're not trying to push out your front teeth. Makes your tongue hurt.

  • Could someone please tell me how to make a second chamber to throat sing? I'd love to be able to teach my sister and my daughter. My sister and I have been trying it for years, it's been fun while we've been trying but I'd seriously like to learn to throat sing. I looked it up online on "HOw to" but it's an asian guy that toatally doens't make sense.

  • 1234, It seems easy. First, get in your car and go driving. Then, you put your tongue like when you say "Ennn". Keep your tongue like that and say "NNNNN" like popeye. You know, use a raspy voice. You can use an 'ooo' sound too but I think the raspy N works best for me. Now, to get the different pitches, you make the back of your tongue go up and down in the back to make the chamber bigger / smaller. I haven't quite gotten it right but its kinda working as time goes by.

  • thanks for posting :)

  • Seriously, how do you throat sing? I've been trying it for years now and it's gotten me nowhere. someone tell me how it's really done?

  • try a tracheotemy

  • or just smoke....alot

  • You need to apply the harsh voice if you're going for Mongolian/Tuvan style Khoomei, with prominent overtones.

Other than that, for Kargyraa, which I find easiest, it's all about experimenting with the shape of your mouth/oral cavity by positioning the tongue differently, opening the jaw wider, constricting your throat, such and such.

  • I imagine you want to know how sygyt (the whistling style) is done, though. You apply the harsh voice for the base tone. The overtones are made by pressing the tongue to the roof of the mouth, but only on one side and the front; leave one of the sides relaxed.; that's how the whistle is made. It also helps if the lips are pushed out into a bell-shape on the side the tongue is open on.

If I can dig up the tutorial I found, I'll share it. :)

  • I mizz Throat singing....wen i first tried it was hard and now it`s easy for me

  • OUTSTANDING!!!

Deep within me something has stirred.

    Thanks.

  • oh,ladies! Beautiful!

  • SIMPSONS!!! I turned to my date when I saw that move all excited during that scene because my fave singer, Bjork, used throat singing on one of her albums.

  • the way they did it on The Simpsons Movie does'nt sound right at all, I am an Inuit who grow up with this stuff,my aunt has been throat singing for over 20 years. This is what throat singing really sound like. This is just one of the many ways you can throat sing.

  • What an excellent presentation. I was always curious about Inuit throat singing and I always thought it was a bit strange. But this presentation and the text explanations have helped me to appreciate it a little more.
