Come on, you can see he gave everyone a wide berth and even picked up somebody elses rubbish. I wouldn't call this man a public niusance at all. SOrt out the chav problem and stop picking on poor old men!
I'm not doubting this is a NICE man. When I first came across this story, I was sympathetic like you are. I stayed close to the story and learned that he has been unsafe from the video footage and testimony. People have complained about him. I too skate in my local grocery. I will not skate faster than someone walks. The devil is in the details here. His idea is noble but his behavior is not. I'm a skater, I WANT TO SIDE WITH THIS GUY. But the facts show a different side of what he presents.
I skate every day like this man. Where he goes wrong AND HE IS WRONG is that he skates faster than people walk in areas where people walk. Skate fast on a road way or skate path. Skating fast in a public mall area is the same as skating fast down the isles of a store. Rude and dangerous. And he needs to wear a helmet, I do. Skaters that respect the road and others wear a helmet, period.
I'm a spoil sport why? I run a skate club. We skate in Delaware, NY, Philly & other cities, hundreds of skaters on the streets at a time. No negative press; guess why. In fact I've written an article on it. I'm not trying to dump on this guy. I feel bad if he can no longer skate, but he acted like a punk teen with no respect for people on the sidewalk. I have to question your age, and how serious a skater you are to post without getting the facts first. Do you know your own local skate laws?
He's an old man keepin fit for god's sake, no1 in ormskirk seems to have a problem, and he's a polite man who will speak to any1 who wants to ask him to stop. I really can't see any problem.
Im a skater and i think it's great he is skating, but come on people. If that was me i would get told to do exactly the same, to take it somewhere else. Why should he be treated any differently? Because he is a pensioner? No, rules are there and apply to everyone, if i have to move, he has to move. Plus there are better places to skate than in the middle of the town center.
Send him to Finland, in here the air is still free to breath. :D Well, seriously me amongst many others judging from comments just don't understand that what happened. Would think that he knocked down at least couple of pedestrians to found guilty on those charges. :)
How sick are laws becoming, They think they can control the people and just keep bringing in new idea's all the time. A harmless old man who is fit and enjoying himself. I bet the idiots who banned him can't even skate. If I lived there, I would get some skates and join him. I think 1000's of people should skate with him and show those idiots in charge that we the general public are not going to put up with there stupid shit anymore. I saw this on the news and thought when will people fight back
check out the trailer for our documentary about him - on our page
