Wait till we have Republican control of the house, do a voice only vote on the amendment, and then strike the gavel and declare the amendment passed, even if it doesn't get enough votes. For being a US senator since 1982, there sure are a lot of things John McCain claims to know nothing about. I don't know what's worse - a US senator pretending to know nothing to avoid answering questions, or actually knowing nothing!
Your tin-foil is on too tight. No senator remembers the name of every amendment of every bill that ever passed. You and I know what the Hughes amendment is because we are really pro-gun. John McCain seems fairly pro-gun he signed the amicus brief on the side of Heller and he voted against the AWB. Its just not his number one issue.
