I can't stand tailgaters either. There was road work going on a highway near me. The right lane is really rough for about a mile, while the left lane is smooth. So for one mile I don't give a s***. I'm riding on the smooth, left lane for a minute weather people like it or not. After passing the rough part, I get back over in the right lane. People still love to tailgate the f*** out of me on this part of the high way, even though I'm going 65mph in a 65mph zone.

You don't "have" to let people in if you can't get over without cutting people off--people merging are the one's who must yield to you in the right lane. I almost rear-ended this idiot that did that to me the other day--cut right over in front of me, brake checked me when I honked, and gave me the finger. What a numbnut!

People have PLENTY of time with me because I look, alright. Don't think I don't because I look. I'm not a moron. I'm just saying they enjoy tailgating me for passing a tractor trailer and such, which takes a few seconds sometimes.

Well if they're tailgaiting you then you need to go faster until you can merge back into the right lane . . . or just don't pass the tractor trailer or let the person in if you're unwilling to go faster for a short time. Otherwise, you WILL be tailgated and it's not going to change.

They can leave earlier next time. Tailgating is ILLEGAL! Get that in your mind. Therefore I could care less about them and how they fail to wake up early enough in the morning. If 5mph ABOVE the limit is too slow, oh well. Not my freaking problem. I'm smart enough to wake up early.

If the person is going so much faster then me, he/she can very easily go around me if they are in that much of a hurry to break the law by speeding. Lastly, my rule of thumb is this "If you are not paying my speeding ticket, BACK OFF!!. Also, if you feel so correct, then tailgate a cop. That's right. Tailgate a cop and tell him "Sir, you are not accommodating the speed of traffic. That's why I have the right to tailgate you."

You act as if I stay in the left lane my entire drive, but I don't. Also, I was not referring to the highway alone. People will tailgate me on perfectly straight roads when they can go around without any other car coming from the opposite direction.

If I'm tailgating, it's not to be an ass but to communicate, "move over, please." I, for one, do not tailgate on a small road or back road unless the person in front of me is going ridiculously slow, in which case, yes, they ought to pull over until they wake up and smell the coffee.

And like I said I only go in the left lane to pass a slower vehicle or allow someone to get onto the highway more easily, but I always yield to faster traffic of course. I don't just pull out in front of you guys and force you to slam on your brakes. I give time to people to react to me as I pass a slow vehicle on the road, which only takes maybe 10 seconds to get around them at most.

Unless the driver ahead is only going 5 mph or so, tailgating is inappropriate. You have a horn to communicate with slow drivers. A horn and, hopefully, the virtue of patience to not endanger yourself and others needlessly.

So if I had to slam on my brakes for a deer I don't want some idiot slamming into me from behind just because they couldn't wake up early enough to get to work on time. Besides, I stay in the left lane for a total of maybe 2 minutes tops, while the rest of my trip to college each morning is 15 minutes in the right lane.

It's not like I'm not passing because I am. I just choose not to do it at 100mph. That's dangerous. Also, cops are all over the highways by me. If they see you going above the limit they can pull you over. So unless the tailgater is going to pay my speeding ticket I have no sympathy for them.
