I was wondering what the sound at the end of the song was, but you can see at 5:44 that it's Neil Peart crushing his stick. Just thought it was cool you can hear it in the recording...
I can feel how hard and painful was for Neil to write that song and then play live. Snapping that drum stick at the end was the least he could do. For all of you who never read "Ghost Rider" book yet , by all means do it. What a masterpiece.
Didn't go to Wikipedia for this one, "dude". Mag articles said Alex sat down with the sound guys and added "extra post-production material...". RushInRio liner notes also refers to this fact. Not putting down this band. They've been my fave since '74 & I just drove 3,000 miles in 2010 to follow them to their 1st 2 shows in Albuquerque & KC. If you were "Brought Up To Believe" that extra crowd noise is NOT added to DVDs, then go for it, but, I will GUARANTEE you it was! MythBusters N.E.1?
@adrian5b - I don't think it was any sort of epic gesture. Pretty sure he just cracked a stick while playing the song and then just broke it in half so he wouldn't accidentally use the cracked stick again. Most drummers would do the same.
Artificial crowd cheering was added to this DVD (mostly or completely DURING the song, in this case). Must be a common trick used in final production. Wish they'd just left it out. Great DVD, though. I think they do that because this song was new and largely unknown to their audiences in '02, and for marketing reasons....Wish Rush would do ONLY songs their TRUE FANS want them to play. I'd go to every show if they'd cut out about 10 of the "standards" on the playlist.

Hi, Will. Listening to Never Ending Clouds.....not too shabby! As far as the crowd noise in "Ghost Rider", it just stood out to me like a sore thumb as I watched it. I've seen Rush many, many times (including this song live) & the crowd is as still as an oil painting during this tune because at the time of this filming, this song was pretty new. Sadly, I'd say 95% of the attendees, like the Pavlov's dogs they are, are there to hear only a handful of familiar tunes. Crowd noise is added!
@waiting4guffman Ok ok! Thanks for checking out my stuff by the way! There's a prog-rcok/psychedelic demo on my SoundCloud and Facebook page. Check it out if you want! Cheers!
@OmgItsGaryBusey I'm thinking that once the new record is done, and when they tour to support the new material, they'll throw some Vapor Trails into the playlist......
When I look at the 'Time Machine Tour' set list I hate it the more I look at it. Nothing from 'Vapor Trails' on it. I'm a loyal Rush fan so when I listen to 'Vapor Trails' I look past the distortion. I know Geddy can still sing like this, but he is just so happy that his voice breaks. (I've seen instances where he's more focused then happy and his voice is insanely almost perfect but the differences are there still so that you can tell he's singing.)
@neilzep I have the book that Neil wrote about that terrible time in his life; "Ghost Rider:Travels on the Healing Road" found it in a Goodwill store of all places for 75 cents! and good song, too :)
@bytor137 I think it might be a symbol for Neil...It was the last show of the tour and possibly the last time they play that song. Otherwise why would they have made a point about showing that?...
These lyrics are the anthem for all human travelers....trouble on the road behind(sunrise) trouble on the road ahead(sunset)..nothing can stop you ((((now)))
@jdseeks Nice to seem I'm not the only one who heard about the remaster. If you haven't heard the 'One Little Victory' and 'Earthshine' remixes, check them out on my channel and leave a comment. (I also did a custom remaster of 'Out of the Cradle', check that out if you'd like, but it has its imperfections.)
I've never seen this song played live before, since it was probably the only time it was ever included in their concert, on the Vapor Trails tour; short after Neil's return from his 'exile'. I swear, in all the performances of him alone, a Buddy Rich tribute, or with Rush, I've NEVER seen such intensity from his playing before. I mean, he snapped a stick in half after the song! What a strong individual, and a fucking monster musician. Much respect.

@ModernvisualArts yes they are just props that he uses. He has used the dryers, a old turning fending machine and some old chicken roasters.
